have you ever sung alternative lyrics to kingdom songs during a meeting or a convention?
to qualify they have to sound very similar to the actual words so you can get away with it without too much attention being drawn to yourself.

a letter has been sent to all po's private addresses to be read out to each uk congregation this sunday - the wt is to be 35 mins long and the lette will take 25 mons to read it.. the instructions on it are :-.
1. read it yourself.
E'man - Exactly, I know that we are generally "discouraged" from watching negative shows about JWs, but this has not been officially said outright.
Will they dare to say it publicly this time?
Moe - The "watch to overcome objections" is a strong argument which makes me think that perhaps they won't give an outright ban
Looks like they just want to "get in first" to influence the flock's opinion.

Twenty five minutes is extraordinarily long time for a letter. I wonder if we will be instructed not to watch the programme! In which case we will not be able to answer questions from householders and work colleagues about the show. As I mentioned before, on Thursday morning the Presiding Overseer of our congregation knew nothing about Dateline, let alone Panorama.
The letter that was read about Dateline in the US was certainly not that long, and I understand it was read on the weekday meeting, not the Sunday meeting. This is really something else!

secret database protects paedophiles .
the jehovah's witnesses organisation keeps a sex offenders register that nobody outside the church is allowed to see, a former "elder" tells panorama.
bill bowen, who has spent his lifetime as a jehovah's witness and over twenty years as an elder, says the organisation covers up abuse by keeping this database secret.
I still remember watching the episode of Everyman which was about couples that were of different religions. At the time I watched it I was a loyal witness, it must have been around four years ago.
I remember thinking that the programme was very shoddily done, and I took an immediate dislike to the man who was being interviewed about his wife - of course I took the wife's side. I remember a cartoon sequence that was shown during the programme that annoyed me particularly. The programme maker gave the impression that it was one of the JWs videos, when it definitely wasn't. Someone hauled them up over it with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission and the BBC had to apologise for their mistake. On reflection it was only a very small slip, but I remember being smugly self-satisfied that the complaint was upheld!
I'd like to see that show again, this time without my dub hat on!
as witnesses, we were frequently counselled to either do or not do things on the basis of not injuring the consciences of others.
to give an example, i used to always grow a beard whilst i was on vacation.
note, i am not particularly hung up on the right to wear a beard, i do not wear one now and i was never too bothered about shaving it off when i returned from vacation.. however, one year i didnt shave the vacation growth off immediately.
I remember my father talking about an elders meeting he attended where the following subject came up:
"Should sisters be allowed to wear culottes (trousers/pants that look like skirts) at the meeting and on field service?"
This was an actual documented part of the agenda of the meeting. Anyway, after much deliberation it was decided that they should not, as they are not real skirts. Sisters are not allowed to wear trousers to the meeting and on the ministry, even if the trousers don't actually look like trousers as it might become a cause of stumbling. My father thought it was the most preposterous discussion he had ever heard.
once again a hard line is being taken on shunning disfellowshipped and disassociated ones.
perhaps this is some sort of backlash against the recent adverse dateline publicity in the us, the forthcoming pananorama programme in the uk and problems with a number of influential ones leaving the organization.

Oh, Katie - just tell me about it! It's good to hear from you again. It's so tough when you are emotionally blackmailed in this way. Living with people who would disapprove of JW.com (delete that history!) is tough too. Laptops do allow you a bit more privacy of course.

i wake up this morning, check my email, and jang has once again filled it with dozens of anti-cult posts from her yahoo group which i was never solicited to join, and never asked to join.. ok, maybe it wasn't dozens but there were several.. jang, i posted to the newsgroup and i am asking you here now to please stop sending me emails/posts and take me off any lists you currently host or will ever conceive of in the future.

I remember Tallyman laying into Jan for the same reason some time ago in alt.religion.jehovahs-witn. I find Jan's stuff brilliant and very helpful, but it seems that she has a problem with her distribution lists. People who don't want the emails sent to them seem to get ignored.
it seems that uk jws are talking about panorama...a lot.
i approached jws i know with the simple question "so i suppose people are talking about panorama?".
the response is generally one with no surprise, no fear, basically no problem at all!
Another point that I might make that you may find very odd is that I know brothers and sisters in Rugby, and adjoining congregations in Warwickshire, and so do a lot of others in my congregation, but there seems to be a conspiracy of silence about the whole matter. When Nic posted the stuff about the arson attack, I had no idea why it was done! Ah well, the silence is over now.
