Hi Celtic, great to see you here and doing so well. I know a bit about riding out the inane British climate as well!

A question for the Brits...
by Country Girl ini've so enjoyed my conversations with the folks from the uk and australia on here.
i'm enchanted by their darling expressions, and different banter than we have in the us.
but i've always noticed one thing.

chachasmum, as far as I know, the only person in the world who spells tomato and potato with an 'e' at the end is Dan Quayle!
Country Girl, The word 'whinging' is definitely Australian, it's not a native British term - the Brits learn a lot of phrases from watching Australian TV shows. One thing that surprised me here in the US was the woeful lack of Aussie programming on USA TV, and so the US doesn't get any exposure to Aussie words and phrases, hence the confusion. -

What a tragedy - he was such a great talent. It's difficult to categorize him in a particular genre as his music has so many influences, he will be hugely missed.

US remake of UK hit sitcom Coupling starts tonight
by ignored_one in.
hi,.
just noticed on nbc's site.. http://www.nbc.com/coupling/.

BBC America is showing Coupling to death at the moment! It's OK, but it's not the funniest show I've ever seen. I've always been curious about why the US make their own versions of british sitcoms - here are the ones I know, can you think of any more?
UK Sitcoms > US Sitcoms
“Steptoe and Son” became “Sandford and Son” (Original better)
“One Foot in the Grave” became “Cosby” (Original Better)
“Man about the House” became “Threes Company” (Copy better)
“Till Death Us Do Part” became “All in the Family” (Both equally excellent)
‘Men Behaving Badly” became “It's a Man's World” (Never seen copy so can’t judge)
US Sitcoms > UK Sitcoms
“The Golden Girls” became “The Brighton Belles” (Original much better)
“Who’s the boss” became “The Upper Hand” (Original better) -

Britney Spears Likes George Bush!!
by teenyuck inshe may have boobies; brains are another thing...... been meaning to post this for awhile....simon, i know will appreciate that his goddess has a different opinion....... http://atheism.about.com/b/a/023941.htmseptember 06, 2003. britney spears likes george bush.
many actors and entertainers have been outspoken critics of president george bush, but especially of his policies in the middle east.
quite a few have openly condemned his invasion of iraq and the subsequent occupation.

Spot on Aztec, wise words. People should always respect others of different political persuasions, it seems such a basic courtesy but it is so often sadly ignored.
However if people who have an opposing political view also are extremely badly behaved, that really doesn’t give any particular validity to an argument that they are wrong in their views. People are mean to Jehovah's Witnesses and treat them badly - the Witnesses then seem to think that this is a sign that they have the true belief. Both left and right wingers fall into this trap, insulting each other, and pointing to each others rudeness as some kind of validation of their opposing political views. -

She sounds like someone who may very well be too fearful to utter any opinion other than blind support for the president for fear of being accused/abused/boycotted as many others have.

1. Who here is married / partnered with / related to other posters here ? and what are your Usernames / Aliases?
SpiceItUp is my fiancée.2. Do you post from the same computer at home, or do you play dueling keyboards from work or other computers ?
We use the same computer, but we switch users on Windows XP - that way we have our own bookmarks and settings and don't accidentally post under each others names. -
