what i was wondering is, does size really matter in a religion.
after all jw's are one of the worlds smaller religions ... 6 million is not large!
If you are a Jehovah's Witness all your life, you will have no idea if your religion is really big or not. Only when someone sees your religion who has already sampled many other religions, it's actually only then when you can finally grasp how large your faith truly is.
And so, as a born-to witness, I'm not entirely sure whether my religion is big or not. Perhaps this might be something we may have some further theological discussions on.

Actually, big or small, it doesn't matter to our brothers, either way they seem to think they have the monopoly on truth!
Isaiah 60:22:

Matthew 24:11-13:
"And many false prophets will arise and mislead many; and because of the increasing of lawlessness the love of the greater number will cool off. But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved."

Well, I know personally how difficult it is to get away from the Jehovah's Witnesses when you have all your family as hardcore devotees. It looks very much as if his family knows the score with him though, but they will still be resolute to "keep him in" to save face in the congregation. Because of this he has to be determined to leave properly and stop sitting on the fence. I think it's a question of you and him having a heart to heart about it, so that you are clear what his intentions are about his religion. As for Catholicism, well a lot of people here, including me, consider this poisonous religion too, although not as bad as the Witnesses.

and my heart is breaking!..we just had it confirmed today.
he has 9 months to live so they say.
among all the heartbreak and pain he is crying and begging me to go to the kingdom hall with him.
I can't add much else to add to what has already been said here, but I'm sending all my love and hugs to you and your husband during this difficult time.

well i went to the cancer clinic yesterday, where i was told not only do i have endometrial cancer, i also have a rare form of it called clear cell cancer.
apparently, it's a very aggressive cancer and has a tendancy to spread towards the lymph nodes.. i was absolutely stunned when then told me this one..........yep, i don't smoke, do drugs, i'm not a drunk and i don't screw around and yet i get cancer.. i really would like to try the gerson therapy clinic in california, but it's $4,900.00 us per week........so with the conversion from canadian dollars, it would be about $8,000/week and i'd need to be there for at least 3 weeks.
anyone have about $25,000 i can borrow?

elders have the right to talk to disfellowshipped ones.
the average jw can't.
elders can call you for a judicial meeting and charge you with anything.
They get invited to all the congregations social gatherings. And this includes all the weddings, whether they are close to the bride and groom or not. They decide who is socially acceptable and who isn't. An elders family have a higher social status within the congregation, and so if you befriend them you rise up the congregational ranks.
