the wt concludes that more people are sufuring more since 1914 because that year would spell trouble that would increase.. a brother giving a public talk a couple of weeks ago said mans life span has not increase any noticible amount even with all the advancement we have made in medicine and so the thought trying to be conveyed was don't trust science.. i know many will eagerly point out the facts.. join the watchtower or you will die.. only jehovah's witnesses have the truth all other religions evil and from the devil.. you must beleive the watchtower or you're going to die a painful death forever, isn't that really good news?.

i have read some of the accounts about facing a judicial committee.
i enjoyed reading amazing's well-written account on what he went through.. as i read this accounts i am leaning how to treat people and how i would react in a similar situation.. i would like to ask those that went through this ordeal: .

Is there anything that the elders could have done to make you feel comfortable to the point of staying inside the organization?
i went w/ my ex to the hall tonight, don't remember much except walking in, hiding in the bathroom for half hour, and dodging all the schmoozing when trying to exit the building.
i also remember my ex holding my hand and smiling at me.
it was a happy smile, like "i am so glad you're here w/ me", but it hinted of evil intentions.

i just read the story about the family in oregon, gone forever, because of the pressure of shunning.. in my opinion, shunning is the big story about jehovah's witnesses.
shunning and the fear of shunning is what enables the control of victims of child abuse.
shunning is what destroys families.
Why not simply say ``we regret your decision and would hope you reconsider at a future time?''

Why can't the US just let John Walker Lindh go by saying: ``we regret your decision and would hope you reconsider at a future time?''? Because he is a traitor in the eyes of the US government. Apostates are traitors in the eyes of JWs. Therefore, they are disfellowshipped.

Lisa, in a perfect world you would be right. The problem is that this is not a perfect world. A wrongdoer is disfellowshipped because the congregation needs to be cleansed in the eyes of Jehovah. It is not a "time out" as if saying, o.k. you are disfellowshipped for 6 months and then you come back. No, the person must be repentant and must have turned from his sinning path.
I have not decided to clean up my life because I was disfellowshipped, but because I love Jehovah and I want to please him. But how did I realize this? Because the disfellowshipping was such a shock to me that it made realize what is more important.
Shunning creates lying, extortion, reviling in the form of gossip and a number of other forms of unkindness.Joel, you can't honestly say this about every case. I'm sure it happens in some congregations. But overall it does not. Have you not been present where a disfellowshipped person is reinstated? Brothers and sisters hugging, crying with joy.
Moral power comes from God and morality is therefore a personal issue between God and each individual.This is true and most Witnesses will agree with you. But, what about when it involves the congregation? There are many examples in the Bible where the actions of one individual would affect the whole nation of Israel. The congregation must deal severely with those that are unrepentant and do not abandon their sinful ways.
I have a very high set of ethics that center around honesty and kindness.And you are to be commended for this. You are very kinds in your posts on this board. I know you are making an effort to be accepted by Jehovah. But we can not just excuse ourselves and ignore his laws.
