Thanks for the compliment about my Magnum Plaustrum, but aren't you spreading the dung rather than cleaning it up?
Oh, are you saying 'the too-little animal secures the great wagon'? Plaustrum sometimes refers to the Big Dipper.

Ciro ain't a heavyweight. He's a heavy-duty Writing researcher who digs up quotations that can and will be used to buttress some notion, no matter if they are out of context. That means trotting to libraries, where you have to get a card--even the UN.
Bet you a gazillion they just weren't thinking about the implications of what they did. My point was, If you are at the top you can do many things with impunity, and without giving it a second thought as to propriety.
:I think this goes beyond "the rules don't apply to us," however.
My shorthand for thought process. It's the mindset that allows the public embrace of a doctrine with the head only. These are the senior guys who publicly spout the no-blood policy but who cannot explain it, and privately will tell you it's crazy. They will state it but find it difficult to teach with conviction--what elders are supposed to do--a contradiction.
Catholic Guy, to a person the GB "hate" the UN. All believe such dogma completely. Unfortunately that's what is still hanging up progress; they cling to Freddy-nonsense still. But the mindset does not prevent their letting Harry Peloyan put out a magazine that can be used effectively with governments all over the world. Great PR. Who in the UN would think that Nobel Prize winner is detestable and disgusting in the eyes of the publisher? Yet your cynicism is well founded--they get very pragmatic. (BTW Dan Sydlik gives virtually the same newboy sex talk that you heard three decades ago.)
As Metatron pointed out, the mags have been rather toothless for awhile.
Trilobite, I have someone specific in mind, closer to your old Western haunts, however.

People, people, people!
The man has to pay for his tuition. Pacific Western University insists on a $100 deposit if you apply to get a doctorate or whatever online.
This is not even an audit, folks. It's a correspondence thing!
From: http://www.pwu-ca.edu/home.asp?ID=5
[lifted from the APPLY ONLINE page]
You have the right to cancel this agreement, including any equipment or other goods and services included in the agreement, and receive a full refund (less a deposit or application fee not to exceed $100) until midnight of the eighth business day after you have received the first lesson of a correspondence course.
According to the California Education Code, if a student cancels a course, the student must receive a refund of 100 percent of the amount paid for institutional charges, less a deposit or application fee not to exceed $100. The cancellation period extends until the eighth business day after the first lesson was mailed to the student, if that lesson was sent first-class mail, postage prepaid, with a certificate of mailing.
Regulatory Cancellation Policy
According to State Regulations, Pacific Western must mail the first lesson and the initial correspondence material to the student within seven days after PWU accepts the student for admission. The student shall have the right to cancel the agreement and receive a full refund before the first lesson and initial correspondence material are received. Cancellation is effective on the date written notice of cancellation is mailed. Pacific Western will make the refund within 30 days of cancellation. If Pacific Western sent the first lesson and materials before an effective cancellation notice was received, Pacific Western shall make a refund within 30 days after the student's return of the correspondence material.
Pacific Western will mail all of the lessons and other material to the student if the student (1) has fully paid for the program and (2) requests all of the material in writing after having received the first lesson and initial correspondence material. If Pacific Western mails the balance of the material as the student requests, Pacific Western will remain obligated to provide the other educational services it agreed to provide, such as responses to student inquiries, student and faculty interaction, and evaluation and comment on lessons submitted by the student but shall not be obligated to pay any refund after all of the lessons and material are mailed.

:B. Isn't naked marketing banned from this site?
Francois, if YOU are marketing naked, yes it's banned. Although Joelbear may have some casual interest ...
Please don't start a thread as to whom you think should NOT be banned.

Dubito, ergo sum
(For Yerusalyim, whose missing letter bugs me every time I see it. It's plural Hebrew.)

Hey, Big Raptor! Trilobite, are you seeing through different eyes these days? I'll be connecting with you both.
I just had a JW heavyweight tell me his thoughts on the matter: child abuse issues can be swept under the rug by Josephine publisher because to her "it just ain't true; can't be true. Case closed."
But this UN thing is going to bite them not only in the posterior, it likely will go for the jugular. Some rank and file tell me they are really upset. Touched a nerve. Too many garish pictures of the Beast and the Whore to forget.
Good work, Hawk. Have more than a few loose ends to pick up with you.
My take on this: the rules never apply to those at the top.
Nathan Knorr and Max Larson (then factory overseer now Watchtower Society of NY president) used to come into the lobby of 124 Columbia Heights with top hats--and female dates--having enjoyed some of the interesting things Manhattan has to offer. (I've seen it. Arthur Worsley was the authority on it.) The very next day NHK could be inveighing about the dangers of worldly parties creeping in to the organization.
When Lloyd Barry and Ciro Aulicino applied for what was a UN library card, they did not have a passionate revulsion for the "disgusting thing." Mere words, a concept, a notion. The rules do not apply at the top. Senior males could go into Greenwich Village and gawk at the female impersonators--just checking out material for the magazines <cough>. No revulsion or reflecting on the scriptures they use for such.
What were the Boys in Writing thinking?

the watchtower provides a comment on the writings of aretaeus in the pamphlet how can blood save your life?
(copyright 2000).
in part 2 - titled blood--vital for life, what of using blood as medicine?
Hey, Big Raptor!
Thanks for the e-mails. (Does this make me part of your clique?) The question becomes, Is there no blood-related quotation in any of its publications that the Watchtower writers have NOT taken out of context or completely misapplied or maliciously distored?
For the benefit of readers, there will be a major vehicle of communication that will serve as an expose of these issues. Patience. Rather than small arms fire, let's go for the tactical nuclear weapon we've discussed.

just wanted to pass along a recent experience that has helped open my eyes about many things.
i wasn't going to share this with the db but with all of the crap going on around here lately i thought it might be nice to post something that i found to be uplifting.
a few of you that i exchange emails with already know that my leukemia came out of remission recently.
We need to connect. I need not explain why. Donation policy has changed abruptly.
I'm so happy for you!

jc file notes - what do they contain?
jones.. 15. brother smith would tell bro.
smith noted too that bro.
At the risk of being forever labelled as part of your clique of toadies, <huge grin> let me first tell you how much I appreciate your informative and helpful posts, good friend. You've worked tirelessly and selflessly for a very long time now. (BTW, You are likely aware of it, but Jemimah is reflecting policy in a branch different from the U.S.)
Someone has written me who really needs to connect with you, and my attempts to facilitate that result in bounced mail for whatever reason. Could you drop me a note with a better address? I have just had to temporarily lock my address because of being behind in replying to so many letters from hurting folks.
Warmest,
Max
in a controversial post in a separate thread, janh makes an extremely good observation that a certain former gb member will likely carry many, many wts "top secrets" to his grave, for whatever reasons he does not wish to divulge such.. then, on this db, former bethelites constantly exchange posts where their word choice is "cloaked" so that many of us who were not insiders are left guessing at meaning, people, etc.
obviously, even individual members of this fraternity have unique experiences and insights.
if such info is not disseminated, it is lost if that person dies naturally or in an accident.. would you folks please post more elaborately so that the rest of us can benefit from your knowledge and experience.. the statement that motivated this post made a silent reference to the author of the happiness book.
: FUCK YOU MAX!!
You've crossed a line. I overlooked your boorish lack of civility and downright nastiness before; I will not again. It is YOUR attitude that stinks. Don't expect responses from me again.
That's why Jim Penton and Ray Franz will not participate here; responses such as yours. And why I rethink my own participation every day.
When my book comes out, you won't get my autographed copy.

Have you any idea what kind of courage it took for Barbara to make her post?
You've managed to trivialize it very quickly by your comments on crumbs and gossip, not to mention what borders on demands, on pain of questioning motive and tarring someone who is responsible for his/her own choices.
Thanks for your comments, Amazing; they are right on target.
