  Interesting story. Regarding him being able to stand his own odor, I would guess that he got used to it, although we can see he inevitably had to conform to community standards to remain a part of the community. I remember some of my college classmates seemed to be ok with bathing only once a week or at least it seemed that way. Perhaps that was the norm in their country. Then again around finals time, many students would start looking a bit rough around the edges.

  I wonder how people smelled before soap/bodywash, deoderant and toothpaste were invented having only the use of water. Now these products are essential. I think that's a good thing, too. I would not feel right without them.

  The one thing I can think of is shunning. I used to be a shunner. I shunned my cousin who was also my best friend. I never told him this but basically I was angry with him that he would "turn his back on Jehovah." I simply had no sympathy for people who were DF or DA and actually had negative feelings for people close to me like my cousin who were DF. Now I am the shunned and I am ashamed that I was so rude in the past that I turned my back and walked away when he came up while I was talking to our mutual grandmother. My grandmother is still a JW but she still talks to him and still talks to me as well now. I guess you could say I'm much less judgemental now also.

  On things like homosexuality, voting and premarital sex, I had more moderate views at least for people who had never been JW (see above paragraph). Sure I thought they were wrong, but even before I left I never had a strong feeling about the badness of people who chose to participate in those various acts and I really could not see how they were hurting anyone or any solid logical reasoning for the biblical or JW condemnation of people who chose to participate in these and other acts considered wrong by JW. I simply trusted the JW reasoning. It is a relief to let go those twisted rules.

  I definitely thought it was possible and even probable as long as I wasn't killed in a car accident, shot in a robbery, etc. I was aware of my mortality, but barring any unfortunate incidents, I did not expect to die from old age.

  It took me several hours total over two or three sessions. The nice thing is that it must have used some cookies to save my last level whenever I had to leave. My brain must be slowing down and I had to go into chat and ask for hints three times. But I finally got out at about 3AM this morning. Someone posted a spoiler page for level 12. I probably wouldn't have needed that last hint if I had not cut all the wires in the second room in the Basement/Area 51. I cut too many wires and it was all dark and I couldn't see all of that last critical cupboard. Woops hope I'm not spoiling it too much for anyone..

  i want to ask, are you proud to say that you're an ex-jw?

  do you no longer have a problem with admitting that you used to be a jw?.

  Also not proud but not ashamed either. Being a JW was a part of my past life. I am who I am, and it's a one of the experiences that made me who I am today. If it comes up in conversation, I have no problems or hesitation talking about it, but its not something I trumpet to everyone I come across.

  (6+6)*6=72

  I know I shouldn't be on this thread asking these types of questions, but I up when I should be sleeping. So what made you choose your particular arithmetic.

  Why not 6^6%6? And I promise you % is an operator, but I can't remember what it does now.

  well is it wrong to go out and plan on getting drunk,,,,,,tipsy,,,,,,,,,,,mellow,,,,,,,,,or "merry in heart" as the bible puts it??????

  i know that some people have addiction problems with alcohol and i dont mean to offend anyone,,,,,but there are alot of folks who on a weekend here and there, drink and just let loose.

  i , for one know that if you have a problem with alcohol this is a totally different subject .

  Of course, JW think its wrong, but I see nothing wrong with choosing to do this once in a while excepting circumstances like those blondie mentioned. It reminds me of that beer commercial where the guy drives up and then slashes his own tires. Yeah get drunk, but make sure you've put enough of a buffer around yourself that you don't hurt anyone. Personally, I've never had the desire nor have I ever been drunk. I drink occasionally, but I really like to keep my brain functioning near capacity.

  Lap Dancing

  a friend of mine gave me a free ticket to a lap dance club tonight, and ive just got back from there.

  its the first time i've ever been to one so i was intrigued as to what it was all about.

  after going there i dont know what to make of it.

  I feel its cool for those who like that sort of thing. I haven't been to a lap dance type club. All of the strip clubs in DC and Northern Virginia are strictly no touch by law. I've been to a few but it didn't interest me enough to be a regular visitor. I might like to try a lap dance club at least once, but I think I'd have to go up to Baltimore for that.

  Book Studies in Your Home

  i'm curious (was reading the other thread about book studies and got to pondering) who had a book study group in your home and what was it like.

  and did you go to any homes where they made you take your shoes and socks off and put on slippers or anything like that?.

  we had one in our home....got counciled about having the demonic disney movies out, but for the most part it was a pretty good experience.

  While growing, it was held in my parents house for as long as I could remember. My dad was an elder and he conducted it until he stepped down from elder. At that time they also moved the bookstudy from our house. We held a few after bookstudy eating and socializing sessions at my parents house, but it didn't happen that often.

  Then I moved here. They loved to have goodie nights at the bookstudies I attended in this area. I know at least two bookstudies that would have goodie nights once a month. It was mostly sweets sometimes interesting ethnic dishes and junk food at my bookstudy, but a few full fledged dinners but another bookstudy would have full dinners once a month and they were at the KH and would use this room in the back to keep the food. There happened to be a microwave and small fridge back there that would be used by the pioneers sometimes. At one goodie night the conductor asked me to bring my saxophone so after we finished the bookstudy, he played his piano and we jammed a little on none JW songs.

  Edited to add: Oh forgot to mention, in two home bookstudies I went to they always asked us to remove our shoes. Had to make sure I had fresh socks.

  I just have a question: how do people know it's a local needs talk? Does the speaker present it as that? I haven't been so long that I've forgotten. In addition, how do they know who or what incident is being addressed by the local needs talk, since all this is supposedly confidential?

  I've only been out for a couple of years so I suppose they still do things the same way. Once a month, one of the service meeting talks scheduled in the "Our Kingdom Ministry" is designated Local Needs. So everyone knows when this talk happens. The elders are generally supposed to pick one of their ranks to give a talk on something that may be a problem for the congregation or give some encouragement for improvement in some area. Sometimes it's not a heavy subject and sometimes it is. I remember at times, a congregation I attended used the talk to discuss construction or cleaning projects. Sometimes it was about field service or meeting attendance. Sometimes it is used for "marking". If it is in response to a specific incident, you wouldn't and weren't supposed to know what or who was involved in the incident except by the gossip. On the other hand, sometimes these talks would be given on the on the same night that a disfellowship announcement was made and you could kind of put 2 and 2 together.
