Play Football in particular. I was athletic, two of my friends/class mates went on to play in the NFL...both have been on teams that went to and WON the Superbowl. I see them when they come home...sometimes when out riding their motorcycles around town in the summer. Sucks to be a JW. If my son wants to play...I'm not holding him back. Eventhough I'm sure his mother will try.

What Did You Not Do Because You Were A Jehovah's Witness That You Wanted To Do?
by minimus ini didn't go to college and of course, "higher education" was never recommended.
still, i never felt terribly deprived because of not going further in my education.. yet, i did wish that i could've had "normal" aka "worldly friends".
i wish that as witnesses, we could've been better integrated with other people.

CHAPTER 32 - Answer = Keep out of Kingdom Halls (b/c your child could be sitting next to one and the elders would never tell you) & don't let your kids answer the doors when the JWs come knocking. One could be at your door and see something (underage) that they like. they're return visits to will help increase their hours by a mile.

a Questions many Witnesses don't ask is... "Are we really following Christ or the Governing Body?" The bible says to not go BEYOND Scripture. So their "bible aids" are beyond scripture. Context is always thrown out of the window. Anyone can take a few scriptures and bend them to fit a point they're trying to make...that's easy. But the Bible is very "simple"...yet the WTBTS make it complicated. There will always be "ends of systems of things" (multiple) until Armageddon. And when will that be? Nobody knows!...and that is all WE Need to Know. But if one is truly loyal and serving a MAN-MADE ORGANIZATION and group of MEN (GB) they will have to answer for that.
I think God and Jesus will be fine with an excuse "Well, because of the accusations and hurt, and false prophecies, and contradictions of the WTBTS...i truly was not sure WHO or WHAT to follow. I heeded your advice to not put my faith in men. I chose to follow YOU and not an Organization." versus this excuse "Well, because they told me that YOU were leading this organization and it was directed by Holy Spirit I believed them. I just couldn't see how your word, the bible was enough. I needed more. Things in it were not explained enough for me and they seemed to be great teachers...so I followed them thinking we were all following you."
At which point he will say "You know what we've said about false prophets. I said that I am the way, the truth...not WE are. I have saying of everlasting life...those saying are in the bible. Do you think it was REASONABLE and WISE to abandon the sheep you felt were LOST? They were skinned about and thrown away by YOU...you modern-day pharisees. Many "got out of her"...you should have too!"
Then they will feel the wrath. And maybe roast like some hotdogs on a stick.

If there are "suggestions" about it...I'm sure many will not "OBEY". Its too BIG.
It is not reasonable that they would ban FB etc. Many people stay in contact with their families this way. what will they think of next?

Are more long standing JW's leaving?
by cantleave inat one time, it seemed that the majority of those leaving, were young ones brought up in the cult.. from what i can see now (at least on here), there seems to be a high number of 20+ baptised members years leaving.. has this always been the case?
it might be i just didn't notice from my parochial view from the kingdom hall!.
or are there really more long standing jw's leaving now, than ever before?.

I do see more older ones leaving...then there's the push for young brothers to take the lead. There are about 5 ELDERS in my area that are 32yrs of age or younger. It seems that more young bros. get appointed as elders these days than do ministerial servants. Plus with some congregations folding due to lack of members and congregations being combined you loose track of who's where and doing what.
I think in this information age (Age of the Internet) many witnesses young and old can visit sites like these, and read newspaper articles and blogs from all over the world without fear of "getting caught by another witness at the checkout line" for them to squeal to the elders about you. So, everyones starting to hear and read the NEGATIVE things of the organization. Eyes and Minds are being opened. Plus...as a person (anyone) gets older, you just start to not give a crap anymore and begin to stand up for yourself. You say to yourself...."Wait! I'm letting a handful of MEN...in Brooklyn NY (of all places)...tell me what to do with my life and how to do it?"
Time to END the MENTAL MOLESTATION! (maybe the TOES are the WTBTS and the boulder is THE INTERNET!)

Waking Up From a 34 Year Slumber.
by alg1052 injuly 11, 2011 will be 34 years since i was baptised as one of jw's.
the sleeping pill i took was in the form of them providing the information that made the bible come alive with the truth and insisting that they go by the bible not adding or taking away from it.
i had negative experiences from local brothers from time to time, however i excused them as part of being imperfect.

I'm at the point now where if the "soul patch" issue is brought up (say, at our next CO's visit) like that...I'm bouncing. Then when/if anyone asks why I'm not attending meetings anymore...I can just have the message passed that "I still have my soul patch, thus I'm not worthy so why bother"

Did you ever shun someone close? How did you feel?
by jean-luc picard inhow does a jw feel when he "has" to shun someone he likes/loves?.
during the time i was in, i shunned people.
but as i didn't like them, it was no problem.. but now, i'm trying to understand how my family might really feel.. (i presume here, of course, that they do "like/love me".).

I never obeyed that. especially when my brother was DF'd. We still hung out. He's my brother!...no GB can tell me to shun my family. really? Persons divided in faith or thought doesn't mean we can't get along. And his short-comings had nothing to do with me, so why should I care? How one takes care of home is their business. I don't even have any true "friends" in the TRUTH anymore, so when the shunning begins...i wont even feel it. My parents will shun me...but other than the one brother, the rest of our family (extended and siblings) are WORDLY! yayeee!! maybe I'll visit my sister's church when I get out. LOL
