i am one of the few people on earth who never had a jehovah's witness knock on my door.
my wife was the first witness i ever met.
i did notice certain personality traits after being around some of the people who left the religion.
I guess they never read that scripture that says, "For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he is deceiving his own mind." Gal. 5:3
Do such scriptrures have any application on JW's?

Without doubt it will affect our wallets and purses. This mornings TV news had some gas stations lined up with cars galore. On top of this explosion of gas prices we have the floods, and that means farming will suffer and the price of food will sky-rocket.

What effect will the gas hike have on you?

the most disengenuous aspect of "official" pronouncements from the society can be identified.. it is in the positioning of the speaker/writer as a passive onlooker commenting on exterior happenings.. this bystander mode is clever by half.. why?
it spoon feeds information without taking any active personal responsibility.. sort of an "oh gee, wow--look at all this going on" stance, while taking a stand-offish tone, is printed in the official magazines and books approved for publication by the governing body as mouthpiece of jehovah.. think about that.
it is insidious incitement without responsibility.. the person (likely fred franz) who crafted these bulletins had gone through several previous incidents of failure and disappointment and was well aware of the effect of any speculations upon jehovah's witnesses in the past.. this makes what was printed all the more calculated and irresponsible in the extreme.. let us parse the language printed by the watchtower society with careful attention to what is said and left unsaid.. w68 8/15 p. 494 why are you looking forward to 1975?.
Paul made an interesting comment at Galations 1: 7-9, "...only there are certain ones who are causing YOU trouble and wanting to pervert the good news about the Christ. 8, However, even if we or an angel out of heaven were to declare to YOU as good news something beyond what we declared to YOU as good news, let him be accursed. 9, As we have said above, I also now say again, (reassurance) Whoever it is that is decalring to YOU as good news something beyond what YOU accepted, let him be accursed."
Matt.24:36, "Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the father."
36 years have passed since 1975. I remmber reading Mcmillians book, "Faith On The March" and he really thought 1914 would be the end!!!!!! Wow, that was 97 years ago!!!! What's the latest hunch ciculating these days?

this was pretty neat !.
an elderly lady who lives behind us lost her husband to cancer two years ago.
she has been doing alright, her two grown sons have been helping her out a lot.
You did the right thing. I'm not going to waste my time speculating what went through the minds of this witness couple. To me, this is not surprising, why? I have a 97 year old WITNESS Mom living in a Elders lodge. She's not handicapped, and she gets along very good. When I first went visiting her, which was a few years ago ( I still do), she was troubled what her witness family members would say about my visits. Well, it's finally excepted because nothing is said about it. What's interesting is that my complaining witness brother and witness daughter hardly go and visit her, while my two other non-witness brothers go on a regular basis!!!!! Does that make sense about people who are more interested in placing literature and time in service than violating James 1:26, "...to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation..."? What impact does the scriptures have on these individuals?
Going back a few years ago, my witness mother took ill and we housed her for about a month, where were the family witnesses during my Mom's crisis? No where to be found in aiding or helping her. A few came to visit her. That's my experience. Again, you did the right thing.

i have a few questions about 1975. i was born after 1975, so i don't know too much about the armageddon prediction.
There was an intense hype about 1975. For me personally, I couldn't accept it. We have been taught that no man knows the day and year the end would arrive, so how could the organization know? I went about my life the same as I'm doing right now.

this question became an off-topic sidetrack in another thread.
i thought it might be worth some debate so posted here .
the debate is basically between mainstream geological understanding of the earth's history and "young earth creationism" in particular with how the evidence relates to the occurrence of a global flood in the recent past.. a couple of points from the yec website www.icr.org are raised as examples in order to kick things off .
What difference does it make, is our every day life dependent on knowing the answer? What came first, the chicken or the egg?
