  some time ago i was at a family gathering.

  my father and uncles are all long-time elders in their congregations.

  when they were discussing they all were 50+ now, one of my uncles said: "i never thought i would come that close to my retirement in this old system of things".

  Hoffnung, you picked a very good topic for others to participate. Yesterday I went to my dentist and after greeting me, I said, don't ever get old, he laughed, it's impossible he said, however, he laughed, it was the thought.

  Getting old is not a joke. My Mom is 96 and she's lives in an elders lodge. My two other non-witness brothers frequently visit her, but not brother who is an Elder, what kind of joke is this? Over months, I have seen others depart from this lodge, (death) it's not a positive lodge to visit, only my two other brothers and I visit our aging parents, very, very sad.

  Personally, I don't want to be in my mother's position, not nice to say, however, that's my choice.

  some forums/boards have a greetings section for newbies, but i couldn't find one here, so i guess i should post here.. i was an active witness in the 70s and 80s but decided i couldn't conscientiously continue participating so i just dropped out.

  unlke many others, i don't have witness family.

  thus it was easy to just move & drop out.

  THE FLOOD - What's Jehovah's problem now?

  since the last thread on the biblical flood.. it's like this .

  .. immediately prior to the flood, jehovah had deemed the earth full of badness, totally wicked and "ruined" .

  Sizmik, you asked, What say you? I'm not going to discredit what you presented. I'm going to express my observation. When I read the scriptures, especially the book of Ecclesiates, I think of man's CREATOR as being TIME, to me he is TIME. May I suggest you take the time to read the 12 chapters of Eccl., and read with an open mind, meaning without prejudice. Everything we do in life hinges on time, it's amazing, and we have NO control over time. According to the scriptures, we are at the lowest ebb in human imperfection, and yet, man's inventions and accomplishments are awesome. What imperfect man has been able to construct since the begining of time is mind boggling, what's my point? What do you think man can create and accomplish under perfect conditions? The scriptures tell us that his ways and thought are not our ways and thoughts. Can we assume what our Creator is thinking? I agree that the only thing we draw our conclusions on is whether we believe in the scriptures or not, but, isn't that a personal choice? Wasn't that Satan's CHALLENGE that man does not have a choice, but is dictated and controlled? Tell me, assuming you were in a position of hiring and firing, what would you do if someone challenged your position? Would you suck up to him or give them the booth or show empathy? I've said enough for now.
