RottenRiley: if you want to get rid of JW mind think, stop using the word "inculcate". Just sayin, they use it all the time and I can not remember hearing or reading that word antwhere else. I know, it's hard after so many years of using catch phrases.

So many good points in this. I' m going to print it and give it to a friend who is still in, on the fringes because of family, who always makes excuses for JWs for anything I ever bring up to her. It will also be good to hand to anyone who asks if I am ever going back, or do I miss it. Very well presented in a calm, nonaccusatory way.

My nephew lives in Grosse Pointe Farms and is on the road each day traveling for his job. A few weeks ago he said he no longer will stop in Detroit for gas or anything other than calling on a client. He has lived in the area for over 30 years, so he is not new to the area and has seen it decline, and has a real concern for safety.

Funny, today I went into a pets supply store and there was a guy out front washing the windows. I wondered what congregation he goes to! Guess I am on this site too much, but thing is, when I was in, there was a brother who had a window washing business and he employed several young men in the congregation. This was in late 60's, early 70's, so things really don't change.

So true NewYork, I cant understand people (women) who can leave so much pee on the seat and walk away so the next person has to deal with it! Just sit your fat butt down and get it in the toilet!

As a "sister", getting to see inside the men's bathroom once a month when our book study had the supreme privilege of cleaning the hall! HAHA And yes, men are pigs!

How often do you see the Witnesses out on the ministry?
by rory-ks ini only ask because i hardly ever see them out on the ministry.
it is a very rare sighting to spot them actively engaged in the house to house ministry.
or out on the street work, in the marketplace, etc.. the other reason i ask is because they are constantly pictured as being on the preaching work.

I live in a fairly residential suburb, the KH is about 10 miles from me. I have been here 29 years and have had them knock only a few times. Found a tract for the Memorial in my front door last year (found it a couple of months later since I don't use the front door). Couple of weeks ago my daughter was pumping gas and someone offered her a Watchtower. LOL I am also near a huge flea market complex and in the summer when there are outside vendors, I occasionally see Witnesses with a card table set up displaying their magazines, but they are just standing there like zombies counting their time.

On a Scale of 1 to 10---How Devoted Were You To Being One of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by minimus inas i grew up in the religion, i was a 10. i wanted to be made a "servant" because that was instilled in me from infancy.
i diligently studied ever piece of watchtower literature and defended my religion intensely.. when i got into my 30's, i started to see little cracks in the watchtower's surface but decided to "wait on jehovah".
then i started to research a little more critically and realized i couldn't defend the prophecies, the treatment of people and the hypocrisy that was becoming more obvious, that especially an elder can see.. it was a gradual thing---from a 10 to a zero!.

I was 10 or so when my parents came in, last of my dads family to do so. I was never thrilled or zealous about it, I would say maybe a 2 or 3 on my best days. Got baptized at 21 so I could get married in the Kingdom Hall. After 12 years when my marriage broke up I faded very quickly with no thoughts other than feeling a burden lifted. Then married a nonWitness and have never looked back. Until recently had no issues with family, but recently the shunning has started. My parents are both gone now, and my attitude is "to h#!! with narrow minded cousins who are wasting their lives in a cult. I was always embarrassed to admit that I was a JW.

All funny comments. What gets me also is that even wearing what appears to be a flannel shirt, there is a tie! Can you imagine?

My Former Congregation is Dead
by Nosferatu inwhen i left the jw organization, there were about 80 publishers in my congregation.
within the last month, the congregation was abolished because it only had 29 publishers in it.
the apparent reason for this was one elder on a power trip.

So just curious, what do they do with an elder like that? Foist him on another cong? Can you imagine if you left for another congregation only to find the reason you left has followed you? Ugh
