Isn't it sad that so many who leave the cult have thought about moving, or have moved to get away from possible harassment or unpleasant encounters with former "loving" associates? Other than the Amish I can't think of another religion that would make people want to take such a drastic step. But hooray for you and your wife for breaking free together!

Do you think not having the book study in private homes has had much effect?
by truthseeker init's been a few years since the organization ended the book study arrangement in private homes.. gone was the last opportunity to have tea and biscuits and a natter with the friends afterwards.. do you think people regret losing the book study?
for some, it may have been the only time they were able to get some "associaton".

I too remember the Babylon the Great book (guess we are showing our age) and some other impossibly boring ones we studied in the 60's and 70's. Yes, goodie night was the best and we got closer to the ones in our group. I also remember it being drilled into everyone how important attendance at the book study was because that is where we would get vital instructions when the tribulation began, if we had to go underground or became disconnected from others, and if we missed a week we would be putting ourselves in danger by missing these vital instructions. We could go to the Kingdom Hall and it would be boarded up, but since we missed the book study we would not know what to do or where to go next. LOL Guess that's not so important anymore.

JonPreston Love the idea about Jehovah being our invisible friend, had to laugh out loud, but great point. When I was little I had an invisible friend I named Pinochle (don't know why I picked that name) and my daughter had an invisible monkey friend. We both grew out of it, and I grew out of the invisible Jehovah friend too.

"We have NO idea how many in our congregation were baptized last year."
by NeverKnew inwas i lied to?.
are the members of a congregation even mildly aware of how many people who belong to their very own congregation were recently baptized?

Man, have things changed that much since I've been out? I mean, it was always announced at the next meeting, everybody knew everybody, and the average congregation was around 125 or so. Are they so huge now that an elder wouldn't possibly know if anyone was baptized, really, is a new brother or sister that unimportant to them?

Difference between WT selling property and "Christendom" selling property
by Jon Preston ini had this conversation with a jw relative.
he said when he was out in service one day the elder he was with came to a door of a minister who just purchased the churh in his area for ooooooh 12 mil maybe?
and the elder asked him how he liked being a commodity...bold.

RottenRiley: if you want to get rid of JW mind think, stop using the word "inculcate". Just sayin, they use it all the time and I can not remember hearing or reading that word antwhere else. I know, it's hard after so many years of using catch phrases.

So many good points in this. I' m going to print it and give it to a friend who is still in, on the fringes because of family, who always makes excuses for JWs for anything I ever bring up to her. It will also be good to hand to anyone who asks if I am ever going back, or do I miss it. Very well presented in a calm, nonaccusatory way.

My nephew lives in Grosse Pointe Farms and is on the road each day traveling for his job. A few weeks ago he said he no longer will stop in Detroit for gas or anything other than calling on a client. He has lived in the area for over 30 years, so he is not new to the area and has seen it decline, and has a real concern for safety.

Funny, today I went into a pets supply store and there was a guy out front washing the windows. I wondered what congregation he goes to! Guess I am on this site too much, but thing is, when I was in, there was a brother who had a window washing business and he employed several young men in the congregation. This was in late 60's, early 70's, so things really don't change.

So true NewYork, I cant understand people (women) who can leave so much pee on the seat and walk away so the next person has to deal with it! Just sit your fat butt down and get it in the toilet!
