What makes you think the Bible promotes a view of God as a homocidal maniac? Just curious.
has anyone ever read anything by this buddhist monk?
i am currently reading teachings on love, it is wonderful.
he starts out saying that you have to preserve your religious roots and he discusses the four immeasurable minds.

well, i didn't participate in any other religious service (because i don't care to), but i had a wonderful easter day family dinner with my wife's family.
there are russian jews, catholics, agnostics and athiests in her family.
they all love each other dearly.
Ash,
I love Christmas. I still remember the first Christmas I had with my sisters. We had a blast with a big dinner, drinks, and presents.
Now we do it every year and I look forward to it.
i'm not sure what you call them elsewhere, but has anyone tried getting on a tv show where they debate different subjects.. in britian we have kilroy on bbc in morning and anthor one on itv.. every now and then they do one on the subject of cults etc.. maybe some of us could write to one of these shows and try and get on .
Well, it certainly would be fun if we could appear on Jerry Springer with one of the GB members from the Watchtower and Fred Hall.
APOSTATE PANEL: Xena, Megadude, Elsewhere, Alan F.
SPRINGER: Okay. We've heard from the Ex-JWs. Let's bring out Governing Body member Ted Jaracz and dedicated JW Fred Hall.
AUDIENCE: BOOOOOOOOOOO!
(Megadude leaps up out of his chair to punch Jaracz.)
AUDIENCE: YEEEEEEAHHHHHHHH!
(Stage guard Steve restrains Megadude in punishing headlock while he continues to flail.)
JARACZ: (waving Watchtower emphatically) YOU DON'T KNOW ME! YOU DON'T KNOW ME. SHADDUP YOU WORLDLY WICKED PEOPLE! SHADDUP! YOU'LL PAY AT ARMAGEDDON! PAY I SAY!
FRED HALL: Meow! Meow! Hisssssss! Hisssssss!
AUDIENCE: YOU'RE A CULT! YOU'RE A CULT!!!
(Elsewhere gets down on all fours allowing Alan F. to use him as a springboard to catapult himself over the stage guards and does a full body hit into the shocked Governing Body member Jaracz.)
AUDIENCE: YEEEEEEEAHHHHHH!
(Jaracz goes down like a 50 pound bag of flour. Alan makes Jaracz eat his own Watchtower. Is pounced on by four burly stage hands.)
AUDIENCE: KICK HIS ASS! KICK HIS ASS! KICK HIS ASS!
(Megadude bites Steve. Steve responds by cutting off Mega's air supply. Mega goes unconscious. Elsewhere punches Fred Hall in the stomach. Fred pukes up a hairball.)
(Xena flashes audience.)
AUDIENCE: YEEEEEEEAAAAH!!!!!!
SPRINGER: (Sheepishly grins.)
i'm curious: what rules have you dealt with that were just "too much" -- whether they were "official" (i.e.
in print) or not?.
i think a good, general one is r-rated movies.
Well, since I was a *true believer* I agreed and felt spiritually superior because of our rules. I did see occasional R-rated movies, but only because I felt I could handle them. Ha, handling an R-rated movie. That takes me back! Only an Ex-Dub can appreciate my finding humor in that.
I would agree with most of Puff's list now, but the one thing that made me feel that I was suffering was putting up with those excruciatingly boring, boring, boring meetings. The content was usually so poor I felt I was just there to show loyalty. To sit and suffer through somebody's ministry school training was unnecessary and painful to me. Why didn't they tack on an extra 10 minutes to the book study to show how to sell the latest Watchtower and Awake and cancel one night of painful *&^% zombie-inducing night of meetings. Most of the Sunday talks were ill prepared and I would just read my Bible while some inept speaker would stumble through his coma-inducing talk. Glad I don't have to go through that anymore. Such a contrast to what churches I've attended do.
i was just wondering....how many of you have actually met each other?
i'm new here.
what i mean is, are there regular reunions where one can go and meet other ex-jw's face to face?
Jst,
I have so much on my plate right now you'd better wait till I can mosey on down to your side of the world. I know I would like to do a little scuba in your part of the country. Perhaps I could schedule it to coincide with LB going there since he is also an avid diver.
the subject of crime fiction was being discussed on the radio this morning and whether the partrayal of gruesome crimes inspired murders etc... to commit copy-cat crimes.. an interesting point was made that very often, serial killers do have a favourite book - and it's usually the bible ...
Valis,
Will wonders never cease? The Son of Sam is a born againer?
Wild.
a note from the group, to tell you we had a great meal and a great visit for three hours until the restaurant people came and asked us if we would give up the table for another group.
so we adjourned to my place and have been talking and laughing ever since.
just called for pizza and decided to let you all know what you're missing!
COMF/Fred,
you know Six won't allow his pic to be shown because he is in reality a JW and DOUBLE AGENT from the Watchtower secretly reporting back to the Governing Body on the clandestine activities of Ex-JWs. The "eyes only" report is filled with documented incidents and pictures to prove that Ex-JWs are nothing but fun-loving, beer-guzzling, crawdad eating, nekkid dancing (alleged), happy people who suffer greatly from not submitting to The Faithful Slave, even though they mask it behind those big freak'n grins on their face.

we have been hearing about dateline nbc since, what, last july?.
anyone have any clue how long it's been?
i mean, after a while, it seems pointless.. is dateline backing out?
I'm with Six on this one.
Despite the terrible cost to the victims of JW policy on pedophelia, I seriously doubt the Dateline episode will cause any major national outcry. It definitely will help chip away at the white-washed image the Watchtower has cultivated for itself. Still, there are plenty of religious groups and organizations where these incidents take place other than Jehovah's Witnesses. I saw two major incidents at the previous church I attended, Southern Baptist, which has thousands of members and is well known, and it barely caused a blip in the media.
I hope the Dateline episode is aired. But it seems some here have hoped the airing of this program will be some major deathblow to the JW organization. It won't be, in my opinion. But it sure will help.

Jst,
I love boring controversial issues and discussing them for hours.
As long as there is cold brew.
