  Why are men not allowed to do the bible study parts at the service meeting?

  i know why they do it, because the women would complain, but it's not logical, the men need to be trained on how to conduct a bible study with a student, also.

  if it doesn't matter, why are the sisters doing it?

  just to give them something to do?

  They teach that they follow all the inspired instructions in the Bible.

  So, why don't women still have to cover their heads? Paul's as clear on that as he is on women not teaching men.

  Why is the Society in England so scared of The Data Protection Act.

  the ibsa seems terrifed of this law and all that relates to it.. i have heard that if a subject access request is sent they have a "poop" moment and do all they can to destroy anything.. maybe blondie can shed some light on this as i have heard that they destroyed everything and that when asked they will use every tactic to hide what they can and even tell elders to ignore requests.. i am not sure what they most recent directive is on this in the uk but it seems they are terrified of being caught on this.. .

  This is very interesting.

  It's only three months ago that my record card was created. I was still in cloud cuckoo land, walking into this pernicious organisation with head in the air and eyes wide shut, brain completely fuddled. Hypnotised. I remember the elder showing me my card, asking for my birth details and getting me to sign something while he murmured about the Data Protection Act. I glazed over rather as one does when the words "Health and Safety" are spoken. That may sound weird to those overseas but everyone in the UK will know what I mean!.

  jwfacts, how I wish I'd discovered your website before I got in that far. Though maybe I wouldn't have seen it properly. Anyway, I've just been reading how you finally extricated your records via Australian law. It's an object lesson in careful persistence.

  What I have noticed is how angry the governing body is at the moment and knowing that they refer to apostates as mentally diseased which is certainly not something either Jesus or Jehovah would use.

  I'm trying to clue myself in on everything. Please can you tell me where they refer to apostates as mentally dieased?

  Thanks very much for such a useful post.

  But I'm not trying to talk about evolution here, rather a similar rhetorical move located in the June 1 WT. There are two possibilities, both of which are disturbing. Either the writer honestly didn't know the difference between the two definitions of "criticism," or he knew and deliberately chose to manipulate his use of the word. In the first case, if a writer has such a limited knowledge, he shouldn't be writing about this subject in the first place. (Duh!) In the second case--well, it's just plain deceptive. Neither possibility enhances the WT's already shoddy reputation when it comes to intellectual honesty or credibility.

  And that's the apparently ignorant but I suspect in fact devilishly clever approach found over and over again throughout WT writings. Stalin's propaganda and thought control control has nothing on the WT.

  That's another fascinating link, sizemik. :) Looks like we have a common interest here.

  This area of study is one that appeals to me a lot. I'm not a scientist, but that open-minded logical, empirical approach is one that appeals to me very much. In that spirit, here's a way out link that you won't expect. JW's are preprgorammed to respond with horror at any mention of astrology....demonic! forbidden!...yet there are areas of astrology that link astronomy and geology (as well as other areas like finance but won't go into that here.) Easy to dismiss as la-la land, until you come across sites such as this one

  so this is the basic logical flaw in christianity i believe.

  a brother identified it from the stage for me in a talk.

  we all agree (as christians and jw's) that the ransom was necessary because adam lost his perfection and everlasting life.. this is a paraphrase from the talk:.

  We sin because of our natural inborn tendencies to selfishness. It's called concupiscence. It's what Paul was talking about when he said "the good that I would I do not and the evil that I wopuld not, that I do". King James version, I think, sorry, that's what I have ingrained on my memory since for ever, so that's what comes up first thing in the morning.

  Was gods creation inevitably flawed and doomed from the beginning?

  Interesting thought. The easy answer is in the Garden of Eden but that's far too literal and answer to satisfy me. I'll think about that and try to remember to get back to it in this thread.

  but myths purporting to relate events hundreds or even thousands of years in the past often contain kernals of historical memory amid the layers of tradition and archetypal folk motifs.

  an excellent example from my own reading is that of the inuit eskimo in greenland who have a rich oral tradition about the norsemen who died out over 500 years ago and who originally colonized the land a millenium ago.

  My goodness, what a fascinating thread!

  I've always been interested in mythology and the way different and apparently unrelated cultures have correlating myths or legends.

  Giants are one such. Another that particularly interest me is dragons, who appear in one form or another worldwide. I've always wondered if these are an ancient memory of dinosaurs, and if that were so then either humans go back further or dinosaurs lasted longer than anyone in modern times has yet discovered.

  A thought: this thread began seven years ago. Is it the longest-lasting thread on these forums?

  wikipedia has an article on rudeness.. rudeness (also called impudence or effrontery) is a display of disrespectfulness by not complying with the social "laws" or etiquette of a group or culture.

  these laws have been established as the essential boundaries of normally accepted behavior.

  i have noticed a high level of rudeness in this forum ... i was wondering the why.. what do others consider "rude" behaviour wrt this forum?do others have any thoughts about the obvious rude behaviour?do others have any thoughts if the aggressively rude posters have this personality as a by-product of watchtower indoctrination?if no, what could be causing this aggresion?

  several sections are underlined- all about the new light concerning the "millions now living who will never die".

  perhaps this is the first official, mention of rutherford's new end-times dogma.
