Well, isn't it obvious, he's been sitting around twddling his thumbs and letting Satan have his wicked way. That's if you believe the WT, which I do not.

You might well wonder just where Jesus' compassion and love for all mankind has been in those 98 years, or the previous 2,000 odd when it comes to that, but then, that would be thinking for ourselves.

Or, even more, just what he does with the aforesaid love and compassion while most of the world get obliterated at a time chosen by his Father. And what alanv and notjust yet said too, I like those thoughts.

You could also ask the question what on earth are 144000 going to be doing during the 1000 year reign.

The JW's I know all believe that while those 144000 are busy ruling from their heavenly thrones, all the good JW sheep are going to be teaching the resurrected ones all about Jehovah.

Just imagine! Someone is going to get the job of teaching Abraham and Moses all about the New Light!

in the new "step-parents" awake magazine, it has an article claiming how 1 in 3 college students would consider stripping or sex work to pay for it!!!

I'm sometimes an INTP and sometimes an ENTP, but I never ever have a J at the end!

I think as I get older I'm more E than I (more extrovert than introvert, for those not familiar with the letters) but it depends....I'm clearly borderline. I think the N is Intuitive (yes I am) and the T is a Thinker (yup!. J is judgemental (never ever) and P is perceptive (I'll own to that).

But the letters don't necessarily mean what it sounds as if they mean, so it doesn't mean that all J's go round judging other people (though an awful lot of JW's do just that!)

Justitia, I kind of like the physicist thing, though I'd rather like to have something else there to balance it too.

Now if you are suggesting that Christianity brought in some pagan images, or traditions, then I would agree with you. But that has nothing to do with whether or not Christ is based on Horus, Osiris, or any of these others. That claim is false.

It should be a simple matter to understand that those who make these claims are at the least guilty of shoddy research. Christ was not born on Dec. 25th, and for that matter, most of the ones He is being compared to do not even have mention of a birth date, and yet those making the comparisons include this as one of the similarities. That should be a red flag for anyone thinking that those claims are honest, or that the researchers are honest and professional.

I think that where people concentrate on detail, the differences will always be apparent. The broad themes are there, though, and this is what interests me. The common theme of a tree, for instance, eg Christ's stake or cross (whichever) and Odin and Yggdrasil.

I am slso certain that any rfesearcher "making claims" makes him or herself suspect very quickly. True research has no axe to grind. True research focuses on fact, and tries to get as close to objective fact as possible, and to amass many facts from many sources comparing each with each. Only in that way can particular claims be validated or not, but in that way, too, broad themes can be spotted which are lost when one focuses on partoicullar detail.

That is one of the biggest problems with the WT. Often I feel they lose sight of the wood because of focusing on the trees, leading to the suspect (though occasionally perversely valid) practice of picking a Bible Principle out of a short passage, say, in the Old Testament to apply to life in the 21st century. It just won't do, but I have digressed.

Hi tec, yes, you did and thanks very much! I've been a while getting back to you because I was wandering off in research of all sorts! I also explored the thread on here about Horus.

It is not really that I am looking for the truth or otherwise of any individual claims. It's much more that the parallels beween different mythologies is something I'm finding very interesting indeed, and of course that includes very, very much more than just Egyptian and Norse mythology, though those are two that do resonate well with me.

I'm interested because I detect a worldwide ring (figurative ring!) of truth underlying these very diverse yet similar stories, from all manner of nations and cultures, all over the world. This in no way detracts from me the truth of Jesus Christ, by which I do not mean the Jesus of the WT with his invisible re-entry onto the scene, sitting down on a throne and taking up his sceptre, inspecting world religions in 1919. Not at all. That Jesus doesn't really figure in my thinking, and I'd have been disfellowshipped pretty quickly if I'd ever made it to baptism because I never really believed all of that...I just kept my thoughts to myself when surrounded by literal-minded JW's, which is 99.9999% of them here.

I am sure that what I call this deep underlying truth explains the attraction of epic tales such as, in modern times, The Lord of The Rings, or films such as Star Wars with the concept of Jedi knights, Sith Lords, the Force and midichloreans. As well as all the well-known ancient mythologies of Greece, Rome and India etc.

I was just wondering if others here muse along similar lines. I think it must be verey hard for those still in the WT. I could not bear my mind not to be free to think.

Is the bible really god's inspired word?

if god has inspired the bible, how come the bible doesnt mention many important things?

The Bible as Protestants have it is just one collection of scriptural writings. Catholic Bibles have more, and include what Protestant Bibles call the Apocrypha. There are other writings that are left out, for instance the Book of Enoch, to which Jude refers. And then there are things like the Gospel of Thomas, widely thought to have validity.

Bearing all that in mind, and also that the nature of holy inspiration is not defined, I'd say cautiously that at least some and maybe much of it is inspired in some measure, the historical accounts being historical accounts. But by inspiration I do not mean the process whereby "God wrote the Bible" as i've heard so many JW's describe it, giving an image of God sitting at a desk, pen in hand.

The echo of the first two has niggled at me for years. I put such thoughts behind me during my two years with the Borg, but now I am free to muse as I wish. (One of the things I found most restrictive was when my study conductor empasised that we must never ever read any literature from other relgions or even denominations...thought police! )

Does anyone else wonder about these similarities? At one level, some may dismiss such mythology as primitive story-telling. Others may see deep mysteries hiding a deepr truth.

I am slowly coming to the feeling that there is indeed a deep truth that cannot be contained in any one religion.

Thoughts, anyone?

i levelled with the sister who continues to chat with me, telling her i will never return to the organisation and my reasons why.

i hope i didnt hurt her but i have done what i could never do and tell her things the way they absolutely are.

As I said on the other thread, I'm all too familiar with apparent JW friends who simply can't cope with me no longer going along to the KH or out on the field service, because they want me "to have life". They want me to live.

Borg drones simply cannot understand that life will go on no matter what. Those in their 20's and 30's now will still be waiting for Armageddon when they're 85.
