Oh my goodness, my most favourite cowboy film?
I love them, so many...
Almost anything James Stewart. Shane. Several John Wayne.
I like a lot of the 1950's Randolph Scott and Audie Murphy.
And I have a mystery. In the 1950's and maybe early '60's, there was a series of films about the Texas Rangers. I remember little more than that except that there was one man in particular who was the hero. Most of the others wore a black hat but he wore a white one.
Not a lot to go on I know but if anyone can throw further light it would be fantastic!
Basically, I am a sucker for any western film.
I am also a great fan of Louis L'Amour western books. Anyone else?

Evil Elderettes, the true Hounds of Hell!
by Bubblegum Apotheosis inmy wife was told a brother was going to be disfellowshiped, "how do you know this is going to happen?
" sister so-so said "he was not repentant or humble to the brother's kindness.
" instead of engaging into a heated debate, she knew who the leak was, so-so's husband.

I immediately smiled when I read the title of this thread.
Evil Elderettes! I don't know about pay for play, but I definitely thought to myself, "I know some of these".
Evil Elderettes, in my book, conjures up the image of the elder's wife, probably pioneering, who knows she she can get no further in the hierarchy because, oh, bummer!, she was born the wrong gender. So, she bullies and rules those around her with a rod of iron and steely eye, while dressing to the nines oh so chastely.
Close around her gathers a clique of not-yet-elderettes, and maybe even some lesser elderettes, who cluster together in a kind of little gang who shine at field service, probably have several "studies" going on who they can lord it over, all "supporting" each other. Their peak achievement is to spot a failing on someone and report it to the nearest elder. And if they can't spot a failing, no problem! They use their imagination.
The elderette circle are all subservient to the chief elderette who never totally lets her guard down. The others are in the circle but only on sufferance. The're encouraged just so far. They know their place...below her.
This is real. This happens. I've seen it.
I hate them.

He absolutely is, cantleave!
I even know him very slightly. He lives near one of my daughters.
He is never afraid to say what he thinks, and is always ready to come out openly on the side of the disadvantaged, and always speaks for ordinary people.
One of the joys I'm gradually rediscovering is getting involved in politics once more. As I moved ever closer to the JW's, giving up my open active involvement in community issues including politics was the hardest thing for me to do. I'm gradually picking up the pieces of my real life.
How lovely it is to do what I can where it counts, not knocking on doors and talking about a dream of paradise earth and vegetarian cuddly lions!

How long do you want to live?
by jean-luc picard inso the oldest man in the world, a japanese, has just celebrated his 115 birthday.. i was reading the other day that life expectancy in my country is around 78.2 today,.
that half the people born since 2000 are expected to see 100 years old, and that.
the first person that will live to 150 years old, is already alive.. so how long would you like to live?.

I'm with Fernando and Cedars. For ever would do me. Space exploration seems a distinct possibility. But if not forever, then the 115 years or so mentioned early in the thread sounds reasonable.
In the meantime, I'll try to make each day a good one.

The Clear Biblical Case Against "The Memorial".
by Chalam inhello jwners,.
i was reading acts 20 the other day and noted how it makes a clear case against the annual "memorial" as instructed by the wt.. acts 20
paul in macedonia and greece6 but we sailed away from philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and in five days we came to them at troas, where we stayed for seven days.. eutychus raised from the dead7 on the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight.. .

I'm so glad you posted this thread, Stephen.
Of course the WT's whole idea and teaching on the Memorial is totally wrong. I "knew" it and of course knew the texts you cite. But you pulled it all togetheer.
Brilliant, and thanks again!

I experienced something like this.
Someone had said something about me which wasn't true, as anyone who knew me could have seen. I said it was untrue, and they patently didn't believe me. After all, although they'd kept telling me I was a sister, when it came to it, I was the lowest of the low, not yet baptised. They refused to tell me who had said it. Eventually they apologised, and recognised that it wasn't true, which was obvious in the first place.
The thing is, they have set procedures, in the NT and in the Organised Book. If anyone has a grievance against someone, they should go and see that person first.
Wha happened? is right. They don't follow their own procedures. they have one rule for themselves and one rule for the rest of the world.
