he always tells me that i've adopted him as a father...we're pretty close.

i spoke with him asking for some advice about whether or not to pursue my degree.he, to my surprise, couldn't give me his opinion.he told me that if he tells me how he really feels (he says he has some strong views on the matter) he may be disciplined for 'promoting higher education'....in effect he was telling me to go ahead and pursue my degree but not really saying it.

he asked me to promise him that i'll speak to the presiding overseer and the circuit overseer....i haven't as yet.

I was shocked in bethel, there were doctors, dentists, lawyers, architects... they had the best rooms, their own cars, own offices. I was hurt by it. I knew one female that got told that as a female the only way to be sure to get in was a degree is something they wanted. She did architecture.

We never saw them either (mostly the lawyers) they occupied the top floor in the apartment and never mingled.

p.s. I remember telling people at home and they refused to believe the society had lawyers.. how shamefully ignorant can you be. Like there are 8 men with crowns, ruling over a book factory, with no legal rep.

i am a regular pioneer in my cong reading crisis of conscience.here goes...

i'm on page 90 right now...the info is definitely new and gives me a totally diff view as to how i used to think of faithful and discreet slave.

i was thoroughly disgusted with the way the brothers handled the oral sex and leadership problem and the insight on the scriptures book...... still have alot of questions though.

Ms Growing girl, this is the order of my 'enlightenment'....

Read the bible (for bethel) (1 year) .. realised the JW's may not be gods people, realised I had LOTS of questions and that god wasnt very nice.

Researched the bilble (3 years).. realised it is not from a god

Read the Kouran( 6 months) ... it's not from a god

Was studying for medicine and began reading biology (4years+).... realised there may be no god

Read chemistry (2years)

Read physics( 4 years + )

Read biology again

Questioned, researched..... (from day one that I felt allowed to)

Realised there was no god..... and now it all made sense...... (to me).

would you like to know where to start and what books to read?.

feel free to ask any questions about evolution.

it concerns me that a minority of people who admit not reading the theory or it's evidence, muddy the waters of this forum with their gut feelings and ignorant self experiments.

I said it isnt one for debate but for signposting. As for others, please dont antagonise them in this thread, I really would like this to be a place people can come to know where to look for the info themselves.

The greatest show on earth is a great place to start but I would be weary to promote that to people with faith as it is flavoured with anti-creation language (Tec and N.Drew not an invite for you to moan, Dawkins doesnt like religion, get over it)... so If anyone wants straight up facts may I suggest...

Campbell and Reece : Biology 9th ed, should be availabe at your local library. The chapters on DNA and evolution changed my life, but you can plough through this textbook suprisingly fast. This is the cleanest, smartest way to develop your knowlege on the subject.

BBC Three - Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents - teenager daughter of JW parents!!!

if you live in the uk tune in to bbc three, the teenage daughter of jw parents go on holiday abroad for the first time with her mates...i can see these parents being called into the back room by the elders on sunday .

I believe they are JW's and that she has left (good on her).

It just confirmed to me how hapless and ignorant JW parents are, and how much smarter their independant thinking children are. Good on her, though she does need to calm that shit down a little.... bit she is normal.

It so obvious the other parents and possible crew influenced the JW parents into being more rounded in their thinking, they were SO judgmental of the other people initially. I have no doubt that the elders back home will be waiting for them, with a letter from bethel. I gurantee it. If that dad is an elder or MS (more likely) then he needs to be ready because he is about to be asked to make a choice regarding his childs accomodation or his 'privelages'....

Please don't use this thread for debating ancient myth. Keep on topic.

N.drew you feel you can promote the ancient Jewish god without having to explain his origin and yet dare to question us for discussing facts because we can't currently prove life's origin. They are pointing out your hypocrisy that's all. We don't actually want your opinion on an ancient mythical scroll from he deserts of the middle east.

Have you ordered the book you asked for yet? Will you read it?

i have a pinched nerve in my lower back that will not get better.

Whats more faith destroying BOTR, is the realisation that you have to believe god designed all of this as a punishment. He designed pain, tumours, genetic abnormality, miscarriage. He designed it to be as sufferable a possible.

The tree of knowledge in Eden was set up before Satan rebelled, the commandment to not eat and it's punishment were nothing to do with Satan.

So yes the cold truth, you are praying for relief from the creator of the suffering. He wanted, intended for you to be in maximum pain. Thank goodness I believe he isn't there to enjoy that pleading.

I started in a similar situation. Take your time, trust your own judgment, you know your motives you don't know anybody else's.

"Opportunity often comes disguised as misfortune or temporary defeat" don't walk away from these facts because of the possible outcomes, I won't lie, it's hard, it's not pleasant but for me it changed my life in a hugely positive way.
