Supernatural Tony......the 3rd
by snare&racket ini realised something today.... we all happily accepted something really ridiculous.....something that if worded how i will word it now, we would have rejected as ridiculous, but after a moments thought, would have to concede.. we once followed the governing body because we believed they had supernatural powers.
how ridiculous you may say, no we didn't!
of or relating to things that cannot be explained according to natural laws.

Exactly Galaxie,
the last discussion I had with an elder, I raised this point. I asked why they made mistakes, he said "because they are just men reading and interpreting the bible" ....so I said, "well I can do that, surely it is safer that I do it as I know my motives, I don't know these men." He then, like grass in the wind hopped to the ..."well they have gods spirit directing them"...: which brought us back to ..."why do they make mistakes?"
They can't have it both ways....

What part of asking a deity for guidance with your eyes closed and head bowed ,as its spokesman on earth, to be directed by his 'active force' is ....natural? Explainable by science? It is by definition a super-natural claim.
That was kinda my point mad Irish dude....

Don't take it so personally, it is just an indication of the power of indoctrination. In the cold light of day, what we believed was ridiculous, yet we all whole-heartedly did at one point believe the governing body were more than human via supernatural powers from God. The pope claims the same supernatural role also.
It fascinates me, but I am honestly embarrassed, I was likewise brought in via my parents so feel no shame, I didn't choose it, but it is none the less utter hilarity to think we believed Anthony the Terd was magical.
Maybe dumb is the wrong word, but it is how you are left feeling when someone cons you,

'Supernatural'
- of or relating to things that cannot be explained according to natural laws
- characteristic of or caused by or as if by a god; miraculous
- of, involving, or ascribed to occult beings
- exceeding the ordinary; abnormal
The GB claim to have a unique authority and ability in interpretation of ancient Hebrew texts (despite not being able to read it) and FUTURE predictions, including SPECIFIC dates and events. They use these texts and a supernatural power that helps them to interpret, to provide life, medical, spiritual, emotional, relationship, marriage, family, career, education, clothing, hobby, sex, advice.
What separates them from the average human, the average JW.....? A degree in ancient Hebrew studies? A degree in theology? A unique knowledge of bible history and writing? ....... NO .....they know all this and have the authority to lead 7 million people, because they were told they should via a supernatural force from a Jewish deity. They claimed that God anointed them personally.
In addition to this, they have for decades claimed multiple (lame) miracles such as making a tv station online in record time, installing new printers during miraculous good weather etc etc.
Wow..... if I had a '£' for every time I said ..."How dumb were we!"

Wow the JW's are such a confused hodge-podge of mystic, supernatural ideas.
The five pillars....is an Islamic reference. It is not found in the bible, though it is in the Quaran and hadiths.

To the young JW visitors....
by snare&racket intruth does not need protecting, it can protect itself.
no knowledge is dangerous to what is true as what is true can never be proven otherwise.. .

The Secret is out....but nobody cares
by MrTheocratic ini've been looking on this site for some time but never posted.
i'll give a little about myself, but not too much.
i'm a ex-bethelite ( brooklyn )and currently serving as an elder (10 years) (thinking about stepping down) on the service committee.

Humans are awesome animals, decades in the JW's leave many with a warped view of fellow humans. I have confidence that the Internet, increasing defences for equality and knowledge, advances in human interaction etc will lead to much friction for the young unbaptised JW's and this will be the end for WT.
The world is getting better not worse, it's hard to claim otherwise.
The Internet is a ......huge...... game changer. I'm only in my 30's but when we wanted info on WT it was literally IMPOSSIBLE to get hold of when we were growing up there were books, bt I didn't know they existed, never mind getting hold of it. There was literally zero information accessible despite me secretly wanting to see it. Now they just have to ask the question, be it finance, corruption, doctrine, politics....
THIS IS HUGE and we are yet to appreciate the change this has made. Amazingly, the WT have just made a gigantic error also....out of their own need to provide online propaganda, they have made the Internet a legitimate place for JW's to tread. This is a recent change and it is significant!

I certainly think many have this mindset, if it's bullshit ...well it didn't take much time and it was a 'good' way to live....
But this ignorant and indoctrinated viewpoint is very weak and as more time passes and it becomes more embarassing to have JW beliefs.... I believe more people will be brave enough to walk away.
