They would never cut a congregation off from receiving magazines and books. But if it were to be a continuing problem....you'd better believe they would shut down that kingdom hall and combine that congregation into another local one. There's a good chance the other KH will help pick up the slack

The Governing Body Paradox
by truth_b_known inafter briefing reading the original post on this thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/224030/1/do-i-have-this-right i asked myself the following question:.
the watch tower bible & tract society publishes in its writings, as of late, that the governing body/faithful & discreet slave must be obeyed to gain jehovah's salvation and favor.
the gb/fds are comprised of imperfect, spirit guided men whose teachings are to be accepted as truth.

Eiben - For quite a while it made no sense to me how witnesses swallow so much bullshit.....but OTWO nailed it. Even those under mind control know something is grotesquely wrong. but if it is brought forth bit by bit by bit...with justification as to why each bit should be accepted......and you give time to let each bit not only become accepted.....but ingrained......you can do a 180 degree change on someone's belief over a course of years and without them even really knowing it.

The "worlds" view of the preaching work- pretty accurate
by stuckinamovement intrue story ........so i was standing in line at the hardware store yesterday, picking up some garden stuff and happened to catch the conversation in front of me.
the man in front of me was buying a no soliciting sign.
the checker asked "who is this for, girl scouts?

If somebody from the world responds favorably about JWs then....."see! Jehovah is still opening their hearts. In fulfillment of 2 Pet 3:9.....he desires ALL to be saved!"
If somebody from the world responds unfavorably then......"See! Matthew 24:12 was right! The love of the greater number has cooled off!"
If the world responds favorably....."Look! Jehovah is pouring out his blessings on our work"
If the world responds unfavorably....."Look! We are being persecuted just like Jesus said"
It is a win win situation for cult members.

Atheism or Agnosticism, which one is correct?
by Joey Jo-Jo inthis has been bugging me for a while, and while i dont want to turn this into something about semantics i think that we should quickly define what an agnostic and atheists are.. richard dawkins defines 7 different types of atheist ranging from weak to militant atheists, but along these definitions there appears one definition with a strong resemblance to agnosticism.. to me an agnostic is a person who neither believes nor disbelieves in deity/deities, but there are those who define agnostics as a ignorant who simply just don't care or don't have the intelligence to come to sound conclusion.. an atheist can be a person who disbelieves in a deity/deities based on the current mathematical and scientific understandings of the universe, as well as understandings that can refute certain religions such as the strong influence of protestantism christianity in america.. .
from here i will refer deity as anything ranging jehovah to a real spaghetti monster, it's not important because a) we dont know b)for the purpose of this discussion it is not important to define what we believe god to be.. an argument that can be used about a deity is -we cannot prove nor disprove that god exists- this is referred to as a null hypothesis, an assumption that we cannot create a hypothesis to prove or disprove this deity.
this to me is agnosticism and is more correct than the idea of atheism.

"Agnosticism is a woolly headed cop-out when it comes to god. Do you have a belief that god is real? You are a theist. Do you lack that positive belief? You are an atheist."
This statement is completely incorrect. You are in essence deleting indecision from the equation.
Isn't that a bit like saying "you believe it will rain today or you believe it will not rain today....which one is it?" Is "I really don't know because I haven't seen the forecast and I don't yet know how to predict the whether" not an acceptable answer?

i told her again, and i reminded her that we already talked about this topic.

Ya know.....with witnesses getting antsy...it would not surprise me at all if an announcement was eventually made indicating that the Great Tribulation has begun.....only.....invisibly.....and it could very well last for an entire overlapping generation
That oughta rev up the rank and file for more increased work

Hi, everybody!
by thomyorke ini am from russia, and i've ben a jw for a 19 years of my life, since my early childhood.last 5-6 years that i spend my time in the organization, it was only because my family, close friends, and a girlfriend.i've been a pioneer for a 6 years, but my favorite kind of ministry was construction of kingdom halls!
(because there was a lot of humour, creative young people, young and pretty sisters, etc.
;)i still have very good memories about that period...nearly before i finally quit, i was disfellowshipped for a 1 year and 4 months.in that time i 've reed a "crisis of concience" and "in search for christian freedom", and give those book to my mom,she already was inactive, and having a serious doubts.but i was too naive!i decided to comeback into organization- cause of my girlfriend and friends.and remain there as a "double agent" or a spy))i had to pass through all the way to be reinstated...when i 'came back', i had a bad surprise: the elders decided that i need to study some publications again, for my "reabilitation".

Do COs have a cushy life?
by A question indo cos (and dos) have a cushy life in comparison with other jws, or others in fulltime service?.
it could be said that they do, since they have an apartment provided for them, meals out, green handshakes, and invites to social gatherings.
it could also be said that they do not, since they may have to live in a different house every week, accept whatever food they're given, and they have a lot more meetings than the average jw.. .

They receive a modest stipend from teh society. something like $1,200 a month or so. They have a CO residence (at least at our circuit they do). And if they are serving a congregation that is a far drive away.....that congregation will almost certainly have an elder that willingly builds an apartment onto his house so the CO can stay there. Worst case is the CO stays with one of the elders when he visits. On top of that.....I know at our congregation....the CO would turn in all his expenses (food, groceries, gas etc) while he was with us for a week. Our congregation would then take a "vote" (ha!) as to whether or not we should reimburse him. It never failed....someone would always suggest not only reimbursing him but also adding $50 to it.
Overall....I don't believe any CO is hurting for cash. By no means are they wealthy.....but really....when all of your expenses are paid for by the congregations AND you get a monthly stipend from the society.....you're not doing too bad.
Still....not a lifestyle I would like. They are basically middle managers that travel constantly.

OTWO - that was brilliant. And sadly....quite accurate.
I am picturing Jesus and his disciples at Fazoli's....passing around plates of spaghetti. Hey....their breadsticks are DELICIOUS!

How old are you?
R U ready for a family?
Remember....in this situation....there is no "family planning". You will be diving head first into a circus. don't take that the wrong way either. I refer to the "circus" at my house very affectionately. But it is indeed a circus. With 4 small children....on top of the demands of every day life....there won't be a whole lot of "romance" time.
At this point in my life, I love children. But I had mine one at a time and became accustomed to it. Going from 0 to 4 would have floored me.

I think the GB knows that with internet saturation as deep as it is.......their gig is up. It is just too easy to uncover their lies, flip flops, deceit and hypocrisy. This is why they are harping non-stop on the NEED TO OBEY THEM. If they preach strict obedience long enough....it will sink in and prevent the majority of current witnesses from investigating.
It is quite scary. When you have millions of people that will do what you tell them to in spite of the lack of evidence or fact supporting you.....you are dealing with a frightening situation.
