  I can attest. I was at teh DC last year and I saw them for myself. I recall many years ago....an Awake magazine had an article (I think it was Watching the World) about how the Catholic Church was accepting credit card payments. Boy oh boy. Everyone from the rank and file to the CO had something to say about that. All of us condemned the church for its greed and failure to learn from Jesus' example of throwing the money changers and merchants out of the temple. Now.....10 years later......from the rank and file up to the CO.......all will LAUD the governing body for its swift and sensible decision to allow credit card donations. The hypocrisy is sickening

  quick build fun

  how many of you have ever worked on a quick build?

  here's a good one.

  i am a professional pencil pusher by nature.....but many years ago i decided i would volunteer at quick builds so i could help "build a house for jehovah".

  Here's another. I was assigned one year (since I didn't have real good "building" skills) to be part of the administration crew. This particular KH was being built in the GHETTO of a city that is rather famous for being high crime. It is the only KH I've ever seen that has an 8 foot iron fence surrounding it and its parking lot. well....guess what my job consisted of? I was supposed to keep watch.....on all the brothers' cars that were parked 2 blocks away from the building site. Let's see.....did they give me a two way radio? nope. They just told me to "make sure nothing happens" as if this dumb white kid with no weapon or radio is going to stop anyone from doing anything. So.....I just sat there. In a chair. All day long......staring at cars and feeling very nervous when a large group of young men would stare me down as they walked by. So.....the sun is starting to set and a man walks by with his Rottweiler. He stops. He is carrying a baseball bat. He says to me "what the f*** are you doing?" I start to explain who JWs are and what a quick build is and blah blah blah. He cuts me off and says "yeah...but WTF are you doing over HERE?" I explain that I am assigned to make sure nothing happens to the cars. He looks dumbfounded (kinda like.....yeah.....and how are YOU by YOURSELF going to stop anything from happening?) He says "you know why I carry this bat? Cause it ain't safe here....especially when it gets dark. You better get out of here".

  So that was it. I went back to the actual quickbuild site. I explained to the admin crew what the man with the bat told me. Were they thankful for my safety? Not exactly. They responded with "we didn't send anyone to relieve you. What if everyone just did what they wanted to do instead of following orders? The KH would never get built." Yep. I went to bed that night feeling guilty for taking care of myself.

  DOC - Sadly, what if her mother has the same attitude as my FIL? He once famously said that even if an elder was appointed and it was later found out that said elder was the most heinous criminal in all the world......it was still Jah's holy spirit that appointed him. That elder must have served some purpose otherwise Jah would not have let hiim be appointed. Of course....it is best not to speculate or question the holy spirit.

  Yeah.....um......have some more kool aid. Talk about blind faith.....

  They won't let you go because that is how cults operate. They hold you hostage. And they're good at it.

  Your mom obviously holds out hope that you'll return to the borg. Since she thinks that is a possibility.....you could use that to your advantage. Tell her that what she said to you really touched you and that you've decided to so some real study.....ya know.....to make the truth your own. But you're having trouble with a few things (607 BC......1914.......1919......looking for proof that Jesus selected them as his faithful and discreet slave) etc. Ask her to help you find these answers. Remember....she is a JW. That means she is the teacher and not the student. If you try to TELL her anything it will fall on deaf ears. But if you act truly inquisitive and lost....she'll likely feel the need to help you. IMO - that is the way to do it. Draw her out with questions that she can't answer. The hope is that in doing the research to try to find out......maybe she'll realize the truth about "the truth". Those of us on this board can certainly throw out some topics of interest (ones that will require her to do honest research.....not "fake" research in their own Orwellian Proclaimers book)
