Sir82 is exactly right. I once brought up the society's claims on earthquakes to my wife. Her fallback response? "How do YOU know that the statistics you have aren't fabricated by some big cover up?". Yep. That's the reply. The assumption is that there is a world wide conspiracy between seismologists and governments to tamper with earthquake stats. A true believing JW will resort to whatever tactic is necessary to maintain the belief that makes them happy

JWs and Earthquakes
by okage inyesterday, my wife's sister shared on facebook a screen capture of people talking about the earthquake in china.
the top of the list was a twitter user saying "is it just me or are these 5.0+ quakes coming more frequently" (paraphrasing).
her response "people are finally seeing what's coming" (not paraphrasing).. initially, this pissed me off because there is no increase in earthquakes.

I don't have a good title, just read it
by Honeybucket inlast night my husband and i watched a special on the history channel about the knights templar.
about two weeks before i showed my husband the 607/587 blunder.
first off, he didn't even know that 607 was relevant to jw teachings.

"First off, he didn't even know that 607 was relevant to JW teachings."
Sadly this is not surprising. I think LisaRose hit the nail on the head. They have been trained to simply accept whatever is taught SO WELL that even when you can prove that their foundation is faulty....they don't care because the GB tells them to ignore it. Pure, utter mind control. I recall going over the 607 stuff with my wife while she feigned interest. Towards the end of the discussion she asked, "so do you still believe that Jesus became king in 1914?" She was clueless.
I truly believe that the governing body is purposely muddying the waters. I think this debacle of an explanation of Matt 24:45-47 that they have come up with is on purpose. I think they are going to continue to make doctrines as convoluted as possible because doing so will wake up the minority thinking class while at the same time, causing the majority drones to simply throw up their hands and say "this is too complicated......Good thing the FDS is here to understand it! All we have to do is listen and obey". This way they can kill two birds with one stone. Get rid of the ones that insist on thinking.....while ratcheting up control over the ones that dont

I'M SERIOUS!!!! If you eat cupcakes you will die at the Big "A"
by Gojira_101 ini was just doing dishes not really thinking about anything in particular, and all of a sudden this experience came flooding back and i started crying.. a few years ago i went back to one of the states i lived in to see/visit my friends (before i learned ttatt, i was still a happy borg at this time).. the friends i were staying with had two young girls, one was 3rd grade and the other was preschool.
so one day the father comes home after picking up the older girl (i think she was 7, 8...i'm not sure exactly this was several years ago) and she was all red and looked like she had been crying.
i noticed she had some blue at the corner of her mouth.

Gojira....that is disgusting and almost made me cry too!
As many people here know....I am going through a divorce and I have young children. When my children are with me.....they have options. I explain to them why I celebrate holidays and birthdays and why I don't believe the bible teaches that you CANT. But I always leave it up to them to decide if they want to celebrate. Thus far we have enjoyed Valentines Day, ST Pattys Day, and Easter as well as our birthdays. But each time.....they ask me to PLEASE PLEASE don't tell mom! Well, my youngest is known to spill the beans after getting grilled by her mom. She spilled the beans about the Easter basket we made and took to the pediatric wing of the hospital. Well.....my soon to be ex laid it on my oldest (not even 7 years old yet). So much so that my oldest recently told me "dad, I really liked what we did for the sick children at the hospital and I don't think holidays are bad......but I don't know if I want to do them anymore because I get in so much trouble with mom after (sister) tells on us." "Mom was REALLY mad at me and told me I need to set a better example for (sister).
It broke my heart. I would NEVER force them to do anything they felt uncomfortable with. This damn cult is trying to control what goes on when my children are with me at MY house by means of blackmail and bullying my children when they are AWAY from me.

Another Lie/Revisionist History in todays WT study!!
by BU2B ini caught yet another revisionist history deception in todays wt lesson.. .
here is a quote from paragraph 4 of the 2/15/13 study edition.
"decades before 1914, jehovah's worshippers declared to the nations that the end of "the appointed times of the nations" would come in that year and that the world would enter into an unequaled period of trouble.".

"So, I have to ask myself, "Why would they encourage us to do something that would only expose their hypocrisy and lies?" The only reason I can figure that they would encourage the R&F to "examine our history" is that they know that you canNOT discovery their treachery without going to forbidden websites. In other words, they're calling your bluff. "
Bingo. 99 out of 100 witnesses will be content to just believe their claims as true. I mean....they HAVE to be true....this is God's organization! And the 1 out of 100 that decides to "make sure of all things" will be quickly dismissed via disfellowshipping for "being disrespectful to Christ's brothers". Win, win. We retained the vast majority through mind control and fear and we got rid of the vast minority that could have caused problems for us.

My experience today
by leaving_quietly indiscussion with wife today led to her questioning whether i believe or not.
i told her that i just can't roll over and accept everything new thing they say just like that.
we were, of course, talking about the "new light".

"That's worth documenting. It sounds like the beginning of more emotional abuse she'll bring up if you dare to even question a word published in WT litteratrash."
Billy is right. I had a couple of casual conversations like this with my wife. It was the beginning of the end of our marriage. And it was the beginning of the planning of her exit strategy. She claims "mental and emotional anguish". Problem is....."mental and emotional anguish" is merely the result of her being unable to support her own beliefs.
In fact, the next time you feel another discussion coming on.......record it

question for those of you that are still "in"
by outsmartthesystem inis the january 3, 2013 letter to the body of elders regarding the fact that a "packet of legal material is available to assist publishers who are involved in lawsuits over child custody and visitation matters in which our religion is under attack" still up on the information board?
.
if so.......can anyone get a picture of it up there on the information board?

"Im guessing you have the letter as posted above and would like proof it exists on the KH info board?"
You got it Tylinbrando. I wish I had this idea 3 months ago when the letter first came out.

Achieving Reinstatement and then immediately fading
by Tylinbrando inover the past 8 months or so three people i have known since childhood have accomplished a goal of reinstatement back into their congregations after many years of being disfellowshipped primarily so that they could gain their jw family members back and do away with the condemnation of onlookers judging those family members and the contact they have had during those years of being disfellowshipped.. all of these newly reinstated ones immediately began a proper fade.
no meetings, no service, nada.. is this happening everywhere and regularly?.

I have heard of it too. The only problem is.....when a person does that.....the Watchtower is still exercising an element of control over him/her. Can't be caught celebrating your birthday. Can't be caught decorating for holidays. Etc. Many aspects of life must still be lived under the cloak of the Watchtower. Then again.....perhaps it is the lesser of two evils when compared with having one's family held hostage.
What a sick cult

Rebuttals:"Wait on Jehovah"
by Emery inok i think most of you at some point have come across the apologetic saying "wait on jehovah" from jws whenever an injustice occurs in the organization.
many have also used this expression to abandon evidence against the "truth".
this has easily become one of my biggest pet peeves now since speaking to others about ttatt.

*** w09 2/15 p. 27 par. 12 They “Keep Following the Lamb” ***
“The faithful slave is also discreet in that it neither acts immodestly, running ahead of Jehovah, nor lags behind when God’s direction on a matter is clear.”
JW’s like to say that somehow, someway, the faithful slave is directed by holy spirit but not inspired of God. If they get something wrong (like the definition of what a “generation” is, they say “see? The light got brighter. We never claimed to be inspired.” OK. I think that is bullshit, but ok. Now…..how do you reconcile that defense with what is written above? If the slave spent decades claiming that the end of this system was going to come during the 80’s or 90’s due to the “fact” that the “generation” that saw the events of 1914 wouldn’t pass away before the “end” comes…….and then that slave later changes their mind on the matter………..isn’t that in and of itself PROOF POSITIVE that they DID run ahead of Jehovah? If they teach ANYTHING that later has to be amended, how can they say that they DIDN’T run ahead of Jehovah?
If the current teaching (that a generation is REALLY defined by lives that overlap) is the end all, be all, correct one, and is an IMPROVEMENT upon the previous belief (of course it is supposed to be, or else why change it?) then can it really be said that they didn’t lag behind? If God DIRECTED them to teach the previous WRONG belief……then God is directing falsehood and no one at all should want to serve him. But if God did NOT direct them to teach something wrong…..then the only explanation is that they DID lag behind when God was attempting to direct them!

People like that will poke and prod forever. They believe that if they can get you to talk.......THEY will have the words you need to hear! They will have the magic elixir that makes you want to return to the organization. Problem is.....if you talk....you may reveal something they can't defend. Then they will panic, assume that you are now apostate and turn you in to the elders.
