French aid body lauds gvt

A French Aid Organisation, AIDAFRIQUE, has commended the Government of Tanzania and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for the care they are providing to refugees in Kigoma Region.

A delegation from AIDAFRIQUE comprising three people which toured the camps recently said they have been impressed by the work being done by the government in collaboration with UNHCR.

The head of delegation, Dr Loïc Domalain, told the Daily News that he has found much improvement in the general care of refugees in the camps he visited more than when he visited the camps in March 1998.

" The camps look more like big villages, where people live normal lives. They have adopted to new routines. The refugees are allowed to construct own houses. Local markets are established among refugee population and there are even schools, churches, hair salons and carpentry shops that are owned by refugees, " he said.

Dr Domalain further said that he was also impressed to find water and medical clinics available in the camps, as well as food ration issued twice a month.

He said when they go back they would ask the Jehovah's witnesses in Europe to mobilise food and clothing donations for the camps. Last year, the organisation contributed 20 tonnes of clothes and food to UNHCR which were distributed to the camps.

Others in the delegation were Mr Georges Hocquet and Mr Mats Kassholm and they visited Lugufu, Nyarugusu, and Mtabila-Muyovozi camps in Kigoma Region.

The organisation is also assisting Congolese refugees in Zambia as well as Congolese population in Goma, Bukavu, Kisangani, Butembo, Beni and Uvira.

French NGO officials jet in
to help Congo DR refugees

TWO officials from the Aid Afrique are expected in the country today to provide additional humanitarian support to thousands refugees who have fled trouble-torn Congo DR.

Aid Afrique chairman Mr Claude Hamel and Mr Louis De Wit from France and Belgium respectively are expected to hold talks with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Ministry of Health and other humanitarian organisations to see what assistance could be given to refugees.

A statement to the Mail yesterday said the two officials would be in the country for a week-long visit during which they would be assisted by two Aid Afrique local representatives, Mr Edward Finch and Mr Estime Mbayo.

"Over US$30,000 is expected to be spent in providing blankets, clothes, food, household utensils, farming tools and implements as well as medicines to the refugees from Congo," read the statement.

The relief supplies are being provided by congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses in Belgium, France and Switzerland. Aid Afrique is a European-based international humanitarian organisation founded in France in 1990 with the objective of bringing relief to critical areas of Africa.

Through the UNHCR efforts in Tanzania, the organisation last year distributed over 20 tonnes of food and medicine to refugees in the Kigoma region.

In 1997, Aid Afrique spent US$820,000 in humanitarian aid to the former Zaire.

I think by this speech ole offoumou just made themselves apostates. Notice the concluding comment, "Peace requires the equal and effective participation of women at all levels and in all fields, as well as human rights and justice." The GB will nevergo for that.

WOMEN'S PEACE PLATFORM
Over the past few years,several resolutions and recommendations have emerged from various international fora to address issues which will enhance human progress and development . The Earth Summit, the Population Conference, the Social Development Summit and the Human Rights Conference, among others, require huge amounts of resources for their implementation. The Global Platform for Action, to be approved at the BeijingUs WomenUs Conference in the next few days, will also need billions of dollars for its implementation. But where will all this money come from? The WomenUs Peace Platform insists that the only place to find these funds to carry out the demands of all these meetings is from the $2 million per minute the world is currently spending on the military. According to UNICEF, children and women bear the severe brunt of war, civil strife and ethnic conflict. Available statistics indicate that during the past decade, more than 1.5 million children were killed, over 4 million permanently disabled, about 12 m illion left homeless and an estimated 10 million traumatised by conflict. Countless numbers of women and girls have been raped. Presently, the world is witnessing untold misery and suffering in several countries affected by armed conflicts. These incl ude the former Yugoslavia in Eastern Europe and Sierra Leone and Liberia in West Africa. The WomenUs Peace Platform calls for the creation of a culture of peace world-wide and an end to the arms trade. It stongly advocates an immediate halt in the production, testing, use and threat of use of nuclear weapons as well as the reduction of ever y nationUs military budget by 5% a year for 5 years, transferring the savings directly to support womenUs and human needs. Seen through womenUs eyes, Peace is not only the absence of war, but the presence of justice, caring and harmony. Women activists who will be organising several Peace Workshops during the NGO Forum this week emphasise that as long as inequities exist in our societies, there can be no peace, as Peace requires the equal and effective participation of women at all levels and in all fields, as well as human rights and justice.

Emergency !!!! Can Any One Help?

this plea for help goes out to anyone in the st louis mo area.. okay this is the situation, my father and sister are both disfellowshipped and have been sharing an apt.

since my mom and dad have been separated.. my dad was being kind to my sister who was in need after her divorce.. she was the typical jw just, high school education then depending on a man.

dad agreed to let her live rent free till jan when she graduates from dental school.

How Reliable is the WT Observer?

only our congregation has corruption?????

i have this disfellowshipped witness that comes to my door about everyday now.

she seems to think the congregation here is the only one that is corrupt.

she writes to the society and gets no response, she emails and has her letters returned (she doesn't know about the email blocks), she has tried to talk to the elders and they turn her away.

Meet her at the door with a ouji board and tell her you have been asking it questions about her. Then tell her that going in field service is just what the demons want (according to the ouji board) as it shows not respect for theocratic arrangement. Then say the demons told you that the Kingdom Hall she hates is really operating under Jehovah's direction and if she does not go back and apologize to everyone about her behavior God will kill her at Armageddon. Then say you are now a witch and you want her to join you in witchcraft rituals dancing naked in the moonlight.

This should accomplish two things: Get her back to to the Kingdom and reinstated which is what she really wants. 2. Stop her from bothering you.

fading away quietly

my wife and i are moving 3000 miles away so that we can fade away as jehovah's witnesses.

i am looking for suggestions as to what i should do about our publisher record cards (keep them in pa?, get them forwarded to seattle?

) so that we can start our lives on the west coast with a fresh start and so we'll just be left alone...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Here you go a nice form letter to use to get your records. Just fill in a town, po box, zipcode and secratary name, any name will do. With this letter they will never call and for all they know the secratary may have an unlisted number. This way you get all your records and disappear.

can anyone please tell me the latest official position of the wbts on family members who are disfellowshiped or disassociated.

(please quote wbts literature or boe letters as i don't have the latest).. why all of this?

this week i met a wonderful couple who are being shunned by their own 28 year old daughter.

The ks book states you may have a meal but not have spiritual fellowship. If you choose to have a meal you will be considered a bad example and not be allowed to aux pioneer, or have other privileges. Kind of like birthdays. If you have any spiritual fellowship then it is a df offense. Also you can't have them at any gathering where witnesses are present.

NEW ATTEMPT TO PROHIBIT JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES

In the Golovin intermunicipal court of the capital the judicial hearing of the suit of the procuracy of the Northern Administrative District for the liquidation of the Moscow congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses has been resumed. The hearing is being held before a new judicial panel chaired by Judge Dubinskaia. The Jehovah's Witnesses are being represented, as before, by the attorneys Galina Krylova, Artur Leontiev, and John Burns, Blagovest-info reports.

The case for the liquidation of the Moscow Jehovah's Witnesses congregation on the basis of point 2 of article 14 of the law "On freedom of conscience and religious associations" was initiated in 1998 by the procuracy of the northern district on the initiative of the public Committee for the Protection of Youth from Totalitarian Sects.

Jehovah's Witnesses are accused of inciting religious conflict, conducting activities intended to break up families, encouraging suicide, violating the rights and freedoms of citizens, and attracting minor citizens to participation in the congregation's activity. In the course of judicial investigation, which has gone on more than two years, 45 witnesses have been examined, and a complex psycho-linguistic and religion studies expert analysis of the literature and documents of Jehovah's Witnesses has been conducted.

On 23 February of this year the court rejected the petition by the procurator's office of the northern district for liquidation of the legal entity and prohibition of the activity of the Jehovah's Witnesses, requiring the plaintiff to pay the costs for the complex psycho-linguistic and religion studies expert analysis.

However, on 30 May the Moscow city court issued a ruling to return the case to the Golovin court for a new review with a new judges' panel. The prosecutor's office summoned for participation in the new trial the director of the Informational-Consultative Center of the Holy Martyr Ireneaus of Lyons, Alexander Dvorkin, as an expert witness.

During the hearings on 30 October, attorneys for the Witnesses filed a petition for postponing the trial since at the present time protests regarding the ruling of the Moscow city court of 30 May have been sent to the Supreme Court of Russia and the European Court for Human Rights. In the attorneys' opinion, the present review in Golovin court "may turn out to be meaningless and unintentionally abrogate the limited powers of the Russian procuracy and court."

Attorney John Burns, in particular, declared that "from the point of view of international law, which, according to the constitution, is a integral part of the Russian legal system, it is impermissible to consider identical accusations first in criminal and then in civil procedures."

This is just what has happened, he says, in the Golovin court, since such accusations of the prosecutor as the inciting of interreligious conflict are, in essence, of a criminal nature. "All these accusations have already been refuted during the preliminary investigations that have been conducted four times by investigators of the prosecutor's office between 1996 and 1998," the attorney stressed. "Reviewing the disproven accusations a second time in the civil case is impermissible."
