  Do all Bethelite marriages end up happy?

  i just wanted to know if anyone out there knew the stats for bethelite marriages ending happily ever after.

  whenever i would visit bethel, it seemed as though all the married couples were in it for life.

  i know that marriage is supposed to be until death do you part but we all know that things do occur.

  The common way for married folks to leave Bethel was to
  get pregnant. That way, they saved face getting out without
  having to admit they hated it. Some sisters have always
  been unhappy there because they're just stuck there because
  hubby is some Grand Poobah in the organization. All the
  usual stuff about women quietly fighting with each other
  is all there, as you'd expect, just covered up. Heck, what
  hasn't been covered up in this religion?. You also get some
  real dominant sisters who tell brothers what to do, just
  as in many elder marriages. Any body remember Sister Chyke?
  (I think I spelled that right - husband had sight in one
  eye and was big shot in Adams Street factory). Mid seventies
  some ex C.O.'s wife (Mays?) ran off with some bro in the
  Service dept. - it happens, you just don't hear about it.

  Question for any elder/recent ex-elder

  the elders keep dropping by every couple of saturday's after bookstudy to check on us and try to encourage us back to meetings.

  it has worked out that my husband has been gone when they visit so they keep coming back hoping to catch him sometime.

  anyway, i told my hubby that we should at least go to the meetings once a week to keep them off our trail, which i went this past thursday night and wouldn't you know it the one elder approached me and mentioned that they still want to sit down with us and go over an article on meeting attendance.

  My observation here is - don't get too legalistic
  with these idiots. If they're out to DF you, they can
  do it, just because they feel like it. The procedures
  "they are supposed to follow" don't mean much of anything
  except to very anal-retentive elders. They can call
  any doubt or slight apostacy, they can forget about sending
  you a letter, and the Society will back them up 100%.
  We keep acting surprized that an organization that
  hides child molesters, lies to governments, issues false
  prophecy, and sends innocent people into torture and
  death often ignores it's own Talmud and treats people
  anyway it feels like (short of creating open evidence
  for a lawsuit). Big Surprize! I feel like a fool whenever
  I catch myself thinking otherwise.

  since the courtcases in moscow and france are on the wall, what are your thoughts on this.. should authorities act by making laws against destructiv sects?.

  what kind of laws, and what criteria should identify a destructiv sect?.

  Yes, they should act, quickly and appropriately!
  They should develop a clear understanding of what constitutes
  appropriate tax-exempt activity and enforce it. These
  religious groups are feeding off other people's tax dollars
  and are indirectly subsidized. If they can't perform
  legitimate charitable services, as defined by the
  governments involved, they should be taxed. In addition,
  they should be held accountable for deception and fraud.

  I see these two standards as only fair.

  I attended the meeting tonight.....

  i went to the meeting tonight to check out things in the local congregation.

  this spiritual paradise is showing a few cracks.

  when i arrived about ten minutes before the meeting started, i felt like a ghost.

  I recall a comment by Bruno Bettleheim in regard to
  Nazi persecution. He noted that deliberate martyrs
  who openly defied the Nazis, even to the point of
  death, sent out emotional shock waves that quietly
  damaged morale. In that kind of controlled environment,
  a person who stands up for what's right creates painful
  doubts in people, that maybe, just maybe, what they're
  doing is wrong. The Nazi's hated this kind of open opposition
  ,among Witnesses and others, that demonstrated to all the
  evil of their rulership, even when it caused pain or death.

  So be it with the hypocrites and Witness-Nazis of today!
  Why not get a front row seat and raise your hand for every
  question!

  reduced hour requirement for pioneers - 70hrs/month.
  They reported 75,856 pioneers for October in that same issue.
  The latest KM (June 2001) reports 89,963 pioneers for March
  2001. Do the math on hours and you find that they're losing
  a lot of hours (net) on the deal - 70 vs 90 per but they've
  hooked in more magazine salesmen to do their biding.

  Actually, I think controlling more people more intensely
  always was the goal (hours be damned)
