There's been so much suffering in this organization - that could
have been prevented by building up individual consciences - instead
of emphasizing cult-like obedience to Watchtower rules.
Talk about "the road not taken....!
I've seen the molestation issue from two angles:
1) real, destructive molestation of children, unreported
and covered up by the congregation.
and 2) false, ridiculous accusations and obsessions with
"recovered memories" of molestation - that wrecks
lives.
Yes, I've known the pain of seeing a child grow to adulthood,
spiritually destroyed by such abuse. I've known false friends
(20 years!) who hid the crime - and helped cover it up by
disfellowshipping.
I've also seen lives and marriages crumble because of costly quack
therapies that "recover" memories of white bread suburban parents
who supposedly practised Satanism and tortured their children.
Often, these poor victims of delusion make recoveries when they
run out of cash to pay their "therapists".
How do you discern the true from the false? What is the most
compassionate thing to do?
I firmly believe that the best decision for any situation
is most likely to enter the minds of those who are committed
to compassion. If you want balanced decisions, train people
in being balanced and level headed - not just loyal to a
collection of dictates created by very old men living in an
ivory tower.
I'm no longer surprized by stories of incredible stupidity
common among Witnesses. Why should I be amazed at people who
have been taught not to think or act with love? Why should I
be surprized at the conduct of so many emotionally damaged
Witnesses - who hold on to their ailments, telling themselves
that "the End is Soon!"
In life, even organizations "reap what they sow".
It didn't have to be this way
