a lot of folks got it here in the states.
It's typical of the releases in recent years - written
for quasi- literate Witnesses who think it will help
them in their mostly imaginary ministry.

in the january 1 issue of each year, they harp on about how many hours the jws did last year etc etc.. how many hours are possibly falsely reported?.
discuss,please
In the western world, possibly most hours are phoney.
Typical Saturday: Spend two hours going door to door,
actually talk to 5 people - amount of time ACTUALLY spent
speaking to disinterested people - less than 4 minutes.
Amount of time counted 2 hours.

i don't think i've ever seen the subject come up here.
or on the old h2o site but many of you foreign types.
may not be aware that brookyln bethel has been.
Back then, I knew guys who would get accosted on the street
with great regularity. The standard line was "do you have the
time?". Thus, I refered to aggressiveness, in that neighborhood.
As for attire, I refered to actual experiences that shocked
boys from midwestern areas, at that time.
No stereotypes necessary - these things happened.

or on the old h2o site but many of you foreign types
may not be aware that Brookyln Bethel has been
situated in an agressively gay neighborhood ("Do you have the time?")
for many decades.
Most dismissals at the big house for liking men have
been clearly internal to Bethel. However, we'll never
know how many Bethel boys succumbed to their repressed
leanings by going outside, in the Heights.
I do remember a very good Gilead/Primary instructor
(Brother W.) who got booted for getting some locally.
Anyhow, back years ago, when gays were totally repressed,
it was always amusing to see the shock of white bread
Iowa newboy types going from door to door and encountering
guys in blonde wigs, and other interesting attire as householders.
I think some took sisters along for protection!

i wrote earlier about a time in the 1980s when i served on an appeal committee dealing with several disfellowshippings in the ogdensburg, ny congregation.
(see hard question for elders post by xena for details on that experience.).
i was wondering if anyone here remembers that time, or has any news on the people involved.
I vaguely remember this one - I heard they fired a bunch of elders
and that some of them 'weren't doing anything'(insufficently
zealous).

ok, over my many years of being a witness, on rare.
occasions, strange, almost miraculous things would.
happen in my life - since these things were mostly.
I believe that some simple, mundane phenomena exist without
a lot of rigorous explanation. THat might be the case here,
wherein people just say "yea, that's just electrostatics/Brownian
motion/a trick". I'm going to keep on investigating. Supposedly,
some guy kept practising until he could spin an 85 gm pinwheel
- and another could make a whole ash tray move.
I really like Kreskin's "hide my paycheck" routine. I understand
that he once lost 50K when he failed. On other occasions, his
ability was truly remarkable (hidden across town in an elevator?)
Has anyone ever debunked this?

I tried using a light source to cause movement - like a
black pinwheel in an evacuated globe - no go! Not a bit!
Yes, this resembles electrostatics - but not exactly.
Ordinarily, it is possible to discharge oneself after
gathering a charge simply by touching any metal object
(it doesn't have to be precisely grounded) - I can make it
move while grasping large metal objects with the same hand
or other hand.
Furthermore, last night I got it to move from three feet away
with no hand motion.
I would add some anecdotal comments from technicians who
remark that sometimes their state of mind seems to influence
computer circuits. People I work with have made remarks like this
about me ("it only works when you're here!")
again try this stuff with an open mind - I've noted , in reading
accounts of 'debunked' psychics, that often the explanations
aren't credible - and are little more than wild speculation.
The guy who wrote Mind Over Matter is trained in professional
magic and deception - but thinks some ESP is real.

OK, over my many years of being a Witness, on rare
occasions, strange, almost miraculous things would
happen in my life - since these things were mostly
positive (I don't know if I call foreknowledge of
a relative's death positive!), I just patted myself
on the back, thinking I was a "good boy" in God's
sight!
Well, stuff still would happen, now and then, when
I wasn't so faithful! In reading the Bible, I found
that miraculous gifts of the spirit did NOT necessarily
coincide with being totally obedient - like Paul's
instructions on disorderly meetings 'cause people
wouldn't stop speaking in tongues. I also read Sheldrake's
book on Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Returning
Home, which led me to think that ESP, if real, was
simply a property of nature, not Divine approval.
So, I investigated things on my own - and found that
a few people could produce remarkable effects reliably.
In Mind Over Matter, the author recounts his personal
meetings with writer Martin Caidin. He practised
putting aluminum foil pinwheels on needle points under
glass enclosures - and then turning them with ihs mind!
Also, see the book Mind Machines You Can Build by
G. Harry Stine.
I carefully built one of these 'pinwheels under glass'.
I used a clear display cylinder that can be sealed
airtight. I practised meditating in the way the book
describes and.....
it moves!
I can make it oscillate back and forth from about three
feet away. It responds strongly to my hands and fingers.
(not from weight shifting, I'm careful)
I'm still experimenting with this (it works most of
the time) I don't want my wife to see this because
it might spook her (pointing at an object intently
and making it turn).
Anyway, get the books and experiment with it yourself.
Try it with an open mind and playful outlook.
Me? I'm practising. Maybe someday I can toss a cinder block
across a room just by thinking about it..
And if I ever do,
I'm gonna visit Bethel..
there's a scene from Carrie, I'd really like to try.....
have fun

Have you given any thought to developments in science
and technology?
Have you realized that "business as usual" for religions
(esp. the Watchtower) is going to end in the next generation?
Cloning, stem cells, and new anti-aging therapies will change
everything radically - and then there's also robots and artificial
intelligence.
Good Luck peddling that message about human failure and pessimism

being sent to the Society per month - about 20 yrs. ago.
Subtract inflation and it's even worse.
Meanwhile, the young boys are out in the parking lot,
enthusiastically discussing video games. I guess it
gives 'em something to think about during the boring meetings.
Want to hear an elder's headache? You have to fight a phone
bill that includes a huge charge for phone sex numbers
- dialed on the Kingdom Hall phone.
So, the young men are drifting away and Jehovah ain't providin'
the revenue he used to - while the old men in Brooklyn take naps.
What a dynamic organization!
