I have been "inactive' for about 3 years now and have been experiencing pre emptive shunning like crazy. I am not df'd , da'd or anything, simply fading. They have been instructed to avoid all who do not go to meetings for whatever reason.

has shunning been downplayed?
by chickpea inseveral times over the course of a year or so, jws from the kh i attended have been downright chatty during happenstance crossing of paths... .
wth is up with that?
i have no grudges against any of them, but it is confusing as all get out to have left the cult as an ardent supporter of my out, open, front page headlining transgender son, becoming vocally and decidely apostate knowing i was dead to them... now after at least a half decade out, to have them chummy-ing up to me in a check-out line.... frankly, i would rather they look the other way, you know, if none of them would ever genuinely want to know how my son is doing.

Why does an Omni... God need Jesus and the 144,000 co-rulers?
by jwfacts inat the thread about jaracz steve2 made the following interesting comment.
by now, ted should be finding his heavenly posting a routinized bore: 4 years and still counting.
he will have chaffed at the notion that all decisions are made by jehovah god who consults no one and who brooks no questioning or independent thinking.

Well since all we know about this subject comes from human beings with not one shred of evidence of being "guided" by a higher power in any way shape or form I would say it really dosen't matter. Not to be negative but really? This type of subject matter always produces more questions than answers; which is a good way to examine an issue, as long as we remember the true answer is that there isn't one.
Have a great day

Correct me if I am wrong. Perhaps I am out of the loop; but I thought they could not sell anything until the appeal for the Conti case was completed. Any details?

Can this logic be refuted?
by notsurewheretogo ini was an elder until march 2012 until i resigned.
i then stopped going to meetings in october 2012 and have enjoyed 9 months of freedom that i have found to be jouful!
i loved learning ttatt and sites like this and jwfacts.com have been excellent.. i told the elders that i needed a break and that they should not contact me unless it was a social visit and true to their word they have done that.

I must echo the above sentiments. As a former elder you obviously had strong beliefs prior to your 'awakening'; and it sounds like you want to be sincere in your comments to the body that you served with. However, as the others have said; utlitmately it will be a waste of time. I am a former ms who was being groomed to be an elder before the sky fell on me because of a Circus Overseer who had a personal agenda. My elders did NOTHING to help me aside from forming a judicial committee. (Pls see my intro post is you like). Thought control, fear of losing their postions, and fear of losing their family will keep them from reading anything serious from you other than looking for the "I no longer wish to be a JW" phrase. Maybe, just maybe a seed of doubt may be planted but the result to you will be terrible. I am two years into my fade now with a dear wife whom is still in. I slip and slide and give the "elduhs" nothing to hold on to. When they come around; very rarely I may add, despite great statements of how much they 'miss ' me; I am non committal. It is too bad but this is the awful truth: When it comes to this tatt we are all just our own islands of discovery, we cannot hope to really effect change based on our own statements to those still in, they must see it for themselves.
Take care and have a great day.

The WTS has an ANSWER/SPIN for everything! Acts 12:15
by Socrateswannabe inper the ministry school schedule, the bible reading continues in the book of acts.
in chapter 12 king herod arrests peter and throws him in prison, meaning to "produce him" for the jews after the passover (evidently to be executed).
an angel appears to peter in prison, releases his bonds and walks him out of the gate of the jail.

The wbts loves to comment on what "they " say someone believes or thinks. No one has any idea at all what those disciples believed or knew; they have no clue whether they knew or even believed what Ecc 9 says. This is just another one of many cases where the wtbs tries to explain something that is obviously unexplainable and in reality always will be. I love it when they claim as fact that they KNOW what some bible character believed or was thinking at any given time in scripture when there is no way of knowing.

What do you think happens when we die?
by cognac ini'm trying to figure it out.
if we are just dead then there is no point to anything i do.
i'd like to hope our energy goes somewhere... but, i'd like to examine what somebody presents as proof....

Hi all. I like this thread and it's been interesting reading everyones comments. I truly believe it dosen't matter what we think since it is obvious that there is no way for mankind to cross the gulf between life and death and quantify it for the living. Every thing else is pure speculation. We have no idea at all what happens after death and all evidence; or lack thereof; points to us never knowing. There is no emperical or repeatable evidence of life after death. I truly believe it is out of mankinds reach no matter how long a reach we develop. Any answer to this question is valid since no answer; at least to the living; is wrong or right.

Should I just DA or get DFD?
by Julia Orwell inmy never-a-jw dad told me today that mongrel jws who turn on me were never truly my friends and i'm better off without them, so why worry if i get disfellowshiped?.
i fear being disfellowshiped because my name will be dragged through the mud.
i also think it might be a good idea to da or get dfd because then the link is broken and the fade is over.

My two cents. I don't post a lot but do come here to read everyone's post and I enjoy them. I am currently in the second year of my "fade", my wife; god love her is still in; but barely I think. Anyway, I think you should do neither, that is my plan as well. They have no power unless we give it to them. If you get df'd or decide to write a letter; a letter they will not read just scan for the words " I no longer want to be a Jw"; then as others have said before, you are playing by their rules. Just dissappear, avoid, be a whisp of smoke that they cannot hold on to. That's what I have been doing and despite my humor at the "preemptive shunning" when they find out your inactive, it is working very nicely.
Have a terrific day and let us know how you make out.

Local needs talk
by hoser inone of the elders was missing his service bag and suspected that one of the publishers stole it.
he was determined to root out who did it so he decided to give a local needs part on the ten commandments focusing on you must not steal.. he enlisted the help of a trusted ministerial servant and got him to stand at the back of the kingdom hall during the part.
he told the ms that he would read off the ten commandments and when he got to the one "you must not steal" he would pause longer than usual and see if anyone acted nervous or suspicious.

North Korea - U.S - War ?
by *lost* inthings look to be hotting up here.
scary.. what are the chances of it all kicking off ?.
-
Kensei01
My two cents: North Korea won't attack conventionally. Certainly not in the spring when the rains make roads, rice paddies and the like very hard for mechanized warfare. Winter is a much better time. In a conventional war NK loses. South Korea trades territory for time with US allies and then waits for NK overextention then counter attacks. The NK armed forces though very powerful on paper would have great difficulty operating for an extended time. Thier troops don't even eat meat regularly. A tough nut to crack if the south tried to invade but a regime ending campaign if the north attempts to attack.

Shunned again today
by punkofnice inas i walked through the streets of my hometown i walked past a 'sister'tm).
at first i didn't recognize her as i wasn't paying attention.. she sort of gave me a bit of a smile (or did she have wind/gas?).
after i has passed her, it dawned on me who it was.. i'd given her family lifts to meetings and socialised with them.. i then realized she'd shunned me.
