I have a young family and live in Switzerland. I grew up as a witness but was never deeply involved. My wife and me didn't leave yet, since the big part of the family, neighbors and workmates are witness. But the family knows about our doubts.
We still go to meetings sometimes and I like a lot of the people there, but seldom what I hear from the stage.
We are somehow "stand bye" right now and waiting for...I don't know..
I read a lot about "higher critic" of the bible. I wanna know, what is really truth about the bible. So far, I even lost a lot of faith into the bible, don't believe stories like Adam and Eve, Arc ...at least not in the literal way.
I would like to go to Israel to dig myself for new evidence....

I still go to meetings sometimes. Yesterday a young brother was complaining to me about the elders. They didn't like his new, well cared, beard. I was a bit surprised about, since I thought that beards are now accepted. Probabely it has to do that he's Italian.
Anyway, I noticed at the assambly a lot of young brothers wearing beards nowaday.
So, friend in the US and the other parts of the world, are the elders still very strict in that matter?
BTW, I told the young brother, he should ask the elder to show him the law in the bible.

suffering for generations

"sons should not suffer for the mistakes of there fathers and grandfathers" in other word: "every person will be judged by there own life and mistakes".

When I read that, I had to laugh for myself.
According to the WT and bible are uncountable genenrations and billions of people suffering for years because of the mistake of two people, Adam and Eve.And there are many examples of generations,which suffered because of the grandfathers faults in the old testament....

Great post, frenchy. How nice to have such an open minded discussion.
I for myself can not take the word truth into my mouth anymore, since I don't believe that any religion on earth is the truth.
I go even further and ask myself a lot in the last time:
Is the bible really from god?
But even ones believe that, you can proove almost every believe in the bible, as Frenchy mentioned.
And the WTS is doing exactly the same when quoting other sources. The pick out, what support the teachings, no matter how old or what source it is. Did you ever notice that a lot is quoted from the last century?
Science didn't stay still last 100 years...the WTS did..

'Deaden your body members'
by Maxee ini recently read a post on the net regarding how often men think about sex.
i started to think about how often i did.
i followed this up with a survey on antoher site and found i ranked low and they told me i had sexual problems.

And you all know, how stress a witness life is.
My favourite book is "the song of salomon", the most romantic book of the bible...and just the opposite of "deaden your body members".
Greetings MGMPS: first we are created with those body members and then we have to deaden them....it makes sense.

One for the road
by Pathofthorns inso i've been trying to slowly fade away, just going to meetings on sundays, and even then its been hit and miss.
i figure the daniel book is a write off with 607 figuring prominently along with all the "fulfillments" based on it, and since i'm not going out in service, the tms/sm is a waste of time.. even sundays play out like a broken record, the wt study articles show no sign of real change, but a clinging to power and a re-defining of wt history.
the public talks are sheer fantasy.. the sad thing is, i like the people, and perhaps even the concept is attractive.

can I bring you back to the "hard daily life"?
I'm in quite the same situation that Path. Still going to some meetings, but don't feel too well there anymore. But I do love some brothers and the whole family are witnesses. My neighbors are witnesses, I have an witness coworker and so on...
So far, I play the role of an "neutral" witness.
But how long can I stand to hear the wrong teachings?
I don't know right know, it's a difficult time...

today, witnesses are much more open to sex than some years ago. The Watchtower doesn't get involved anymore about privat sexual practices of couples. It's quite up to each couple to do what they like. But there is shure a limit. To join a swinger club is not possible as a witness. I wouldn't show your "teachers" the cellar and its toys at all.
You have two ways:1. Continue study and just keep that topic for private, and do with your wife what both enjoy. (I'm shure, a lot of JW couples are open mindet about that and practice a lot in there bedroom..but never ever tell others...:-)).
2. stop the study.
Looks like that Alex is a hardliner. Not all witnesses are so extrem.PS: My wife and me are still witness and practice a lot more than just "missionary position".

I'm ok. That forum got soo busy, that I just couldn't follow up all the topics anymore. And since my english is limited, I can't express deep thoughts anyway. So, most of the time a join a german forum with the same stuff.
I'm still a so called "neutral witness", staying only because of family reasons.
Right now I'm reading a book called: Who wrote the bible!" A sientistic and historic view of the old testament, which make one's believe in the bible fade away. It's a commen fact among bible sienctists, that the "pentateuch" is written by at least four writers. Nothing I've ever heart about in any meeting.
So, dear sevenofnine, I'm glad that you think of me and hope you understand my poor english.
You motivated me to write more again.
