Oompa, I'm so happy for you!!!!
Anyone here ever wonder how many would be left if all those who are there for social/family/economic reasons (not faith that the org. has the truth) were to admit it and leave? I know that some would honestly be able to stay, but I think that they could divide the remaining assets among the 'true' faithful and they'd probably all be incredibly wealthy millionaires.

QFR: "Warning - memorial partakers might be loonies!"
by cedars inas part of my objective analysis of four month's worth of watchtower study editions from july to october 2011, i found the following gem from a question from readers, on page 22 of the august 15 magazine.
the question under discussion was "how are we to understand the figures in the annual service report?
", and it goes on to provide an idiot's guide to what the figures mean, including the following.... "memorial partakers.

They have been saying that in other words since around 1982 or so, but not quite so blatantly. Hmm.

1984 and the WT$ sexual puritanism

i'm just reading it myself and quite liked the following excerpt.
which i would like to share with you.. .

Too true. For example, I spent a lot more time on these boards back when I was married to my asexual older husband than I do now married to my totally opposite younger husband. Hmm. Who knew?

JWs relieved when judges decree their kids must have a blood transfusion
by MrMonroe indanny haszard tweeted the following story from the flordia sun-sentinel: state butts in to give kids a life.
it's a fascinating story that shows the real attitude of many parents of young children who become seriously ill. though ordered by their religion to refuse transfusions and simply accept that their child may die as a result, some parents willingly accept the right of the state to decree that a transfusion must take place if doctors so decide.. no parent wants their child to die, and it would simply tear them apart to know that a reasonably simple and routine medical practice could save their life ... yet they would be shunned by their family and friends if they accepted.
the solution is to hope like hell the state steps in, allowing them to say to their congregation, "well, what can you do?

When my cousin was dying from leukemia, there was a very quiet suit brought by the hospital to give him blood and they did not even put up a fight. It didn't make the papers. They did what they had to do and the hospital did what they had to do. Unfortunately, by the time the hospital used their muscle, the little guy was too far gone (and it may not have helped in any case-who knows, leukemia is harsh).
My mom didn't tell me til years later. As it was, my cousin died, his parents divorced, his dad went nuts (he was well on his way already) and left the org and joined some quasi religious/multilevel marketing scheme before he fell off a roof and died, sadly. His mom is now selling everything under the sun from insurance to the latest, greatest get rich quick scheme (which has long been what she was into) and is living with her boyfriend, so I assume she is well and truly out. None of the children are in still except a step daughter from several marriages ago. All of the kids (and that uncle had a LOT) are messed up basket cases and living in physical abuse, substance abuse or extreme mental illness (the kind they send you away for-and I know of 3 at least who have suffered that fate for various issues, not related to substance abuse. A few more for substance abuse)
The org can really screw people up. I almost think that my little cousin got the best deal out of all of them. He got out.

anyone else ever think this was strange?
by cptkirk inwhen you were in the borg looking at the yearbook, none of the middle-eastern countries were accounted for were they?
did it ever strike anyone as odd that the region of the world which this religion was born in, had no "preaching" work being carried out there?
all the while the wtbs is shouting the end is sooo close?

In the middle east, the religion is strictly monotheistic, they do believe in Jesus as messiah and they do believe in a lot of things touted by the WT such as morality, not using drugs or alcohol, not taking blood. Maybe they figure they are preaching to the choir. . . So, really, what are they gonna tell them? Not to celebrate Christmas? To respect their parents? To preach? (lot more monotheistic Muslims and it is fastest growing religion, so. . . . seriously.) Seriously, they have less gripes with Islam than with most other religions that I can think of. If you do one of those "what religion am I" tests, as a JW, you might find that the test ID's you as Muslim. No, it's not the same, but basic teachings are not dis-similar.
Besides, they couldn't get visas to preach in most of the countries, and the ones that they could get visit visas for would kick them out pretty darn quick.

Marriage of convenience
by Nickolas injust a few weeks back my wife and i attended the wedding ceremony of the child of a couple with which we associated in the past.
he and i worked together in the same industrial complex and shared a common interest in antique cars.
i liked the older british sports cars and he liked american steel.

I'm not sure if that is a marriage of convenience or just two adults who live together in a compatible happy marriage.
I used to be married to a man who never left the house but rarely for anything but work unless he was with me or the kids. We couldn't stand each other, didn't like each other and never had sex. We slept in the same bed, at meals together but we never enjoyed one minute in the presence of the other-or at least never enjoyed the minutes because of the presence of the other.
Don't be fooled by togetherness or a lack of it. I see my current husband much less because of other obligations, but WANT to see him all the time. I enjoy the time I have with him. He actually has a life and interests outside of the news(fox) or star trek reruns.

To All Elders/MS's/ Publishers Who Come Here
by metatron inin the past, you were told that you have the opportunity to prove the devil a liar.
this is a nonsensical claim, given that about 2000 years of martyrdom by christians has already passed.
there's nothing left to prove or disprove.. however, you have the opportunity to prove that the watchtower society is lying: that their organization is unclean and overrun with corruption - as proven by an endless stream of elders/ms's and publishers who come here, wishing that they could leave.. you also have the opportunity to prove that their published statistics are false - by reporting fake hours and placements.. if they don't like it, too bad.

remember hearing my mom's half of a conversation one month when she hasn't gotten in any time because she had been deathly ill right after a vacation. Pathetic, and she did somehow get marked for having hours. Probably for being such a "good witness" by refusing blood for the deathly illness at the hospital.

How to identify a JW from a distance
by Bungi Bill inmuch has apparently been said in recent years about how a "good" jw should be dressed and groomed, so as to be easily identified - even from a distance.. yesterday, while driving through town, i did see two people the distance:.
- and certainly, by the way they were dressed, my suspicions were aroused.. - however, what confirmed their identity was not their dress and grooming.
rather, as i drove up closer, i noticed both of them doing the "pioneer shuffle" up somebody's driveway:.

Except for the ones that love a confrontation, most JWs just want to get in there, do what they have to and go have their lunch break. No one really gets extra points for sucking someone else into the borg. If they DID, they might have to go to studies, give the study rides to meetings, be nice to them on holidays when they are having withdrawal from family. Really, at best, getting converts just means that parking will be harder when you are arriving exactly at 7 for the 7pm meeting.
