I can't believe the irony..
by The Quiet One inwatchtower july 15, 2011 study edition page 12 paragraph 7 'following the crowd would not train our perceptive powers; nor, on the other hand, would a host of rigid rules in matters of conscience.
that is why, for example, jehovah's people are not given a list of films, books, and internet sites to avoid...worse, it would deprive us of the vital work of weighing bible principles carefully and prayerfully and then making decisions on the basis of those principles.

Lucky kids got to stay at home! I always did like Russell the best of all of them, even if he did start the damn cult.

Crisis of Conscience - The Movie
by cedars ini know... how cool would that be??!.
having just commented on the post by trailerfitter about the situation with his wife, and how i have personally found the book crisis of conscience by ray franz to be the perfect antidote to the society's perception of itself as being god's earthly organisation, the thought occurred to me: what if there was a movie about ray franz and his life?
obviously the society would be in uproar, and letters would be read out to all congregations all over the world not to go and see it, but just imagine!

One thing about the evil guys is that many of these JWs doing 'mean' things are doing itwith honest(?) and good intent-in that they have convinced themselves they are doing it for God. Men doing bad things in the name of God and religion make for good movies. and tv shows. Look at the Tudors, Big Love Benny Hinn (ok, he isn't a movie, but he is pretty darn sure he is a good guy, I think. My husband is Muslim and watches fascinated that people buy that crap:)

Ok, I think the movie would be great. Who cares about a LOT of subjects until a movie that is compelling and strong forces it to our consciousness? Lets think of some great movies: Titanic(who cared? It was old news), The Kings Speech? As if anyone but history buffs would even remember he existed! And slumdog millionaire? Who'd a thunk it? Forest Gump? All those legal movies? People love legalistic conflicts.
And I think Mark Wahlberg could play any part he wanted to. I love watching him and I think he is a funny looking guy unless he is in a movie, then I buy into whatever he is selling. He could sell a WT movie, but I think he would be a good insidious villian. The COC movie could have all of these kind of subtle evil mean guys. You know like the political ones with backstabbing and intrigues. I think it could be great. One just needs to frame it properly.

Talesin, the best part of being at your lowest is that it can only go up from there. I have had some really low days and soon after, things turned around. I didn't win the lotto, it's just that life is in constant flux and our perspective can shift dramatically. Do something to shift your perspective whenever it gets to be a bad one for you. Sometimes it is looking out another window-so to speak-that can give us a new view. Sometimes we need to walk away from the ugly view. Sometimes, we just need to close our eyes! That sounds defeatist, but we need to make it through the day. Life is always changing whether we like it to or not. We can use that for our own good when we let it do its thing and just take the good we find in those changes. I hope you can see something really good-soon.

Oompa, I'm so happy for you!!!!
Anyone here ever wonder how many would be left if all those who are there for social/family/economic reasons (not faith that the org. has the truth) were to admit it and leave? I know that some would honestly be able to stay, but I think that they could divide the remaining assets among the 'true' faithful and they'd probably all be incredibly wealthy millionaires.

QFR: "Warning - memorial partakers might be loonies!"
by cedars inas part of my objective analysis of four month's worth of watchtower study editions from july to october 2011, i found the following gem from a question from readers, on page 22 of the august 15 magazine.
the question under discussion was "how are we to understand the figures in the annual service report?
", and it goes on to provide an idiot's guide to what the figures mean, including the following.... "memorial partakers.

They have been saying that in other words since around 1982 or so, but not quite so blatantly. Hmm.
