by FlyingHighNow inonce when i was profoundly sad for too many days, my brother in law sent us a mix tape.

Herb Alpert...Do you know his father immigrated to the US from Russia?
I had no idea. I remember reading there was not one Latino in the Tijuana Brass. As a joke he remarked there were 4 lasagnas, 2 bagels, and an American cheese in the group, Alpert himself being Jewish. This always surprised me since he has a strong Latino look.
Between his musical career and his recording studio (A & M Records), he is one of the most successful musicians in history.

Kingdom melodies / B4 Copyright/JW`s stealing melodies/anyone remember this ?
by smiddy ini can recall sometime ago in the 60`s 70`s or theirabouts,it when they first printed their own songbook must have been before the org.copyrighted their material, and the reason they did that is because some brothers were stealing the tunes ?
maybe modifying them and passing them off as their own for commercial gain?
( i know some of you are going to say wtf ?

@ AnnOMaly,
Nice work finding that quote.
A composer may hear a little-known tune. When it later comes to his mind, he might imagine that he composed it.
Right. If anyone else had done that Watchtower would have no problem calling it what it is, plagiarism.

Who owns the really nice house and property on Watchtower Farms?
by bottleofwater ini remember years ago how back when i was in the religion, one of the brothers that i knew showed me a picture of a really, really nice looking house at watchtower farms and said that one of the governing body owns it.
there were pictures of a really big backyard, almost like a park in size.
i remember thinking to myself (even back then), that "wow this guy's already got his paradise".. does anyone know anything about this house?

What do JWs REALLY worship?
by 00DAD init sure isn't the truth!
no, it's all about loyalty to the organization.
it doesn't matter that their teachings are an incoherent, incomprehensible, contradictory pile of crap.

Good point N.Drew. I was always amazed at how JWs could believe that 'the article came along just when we needed it.' That was such a myth. And I could see that long before I saw things that really mattered.

To JWs the 'Truth' is no longer derived from God's Word the Bible, if it ever was.
The Organization/Governing Body is the object of their worship.

The "144,000 barrier" is anothr consideration. Apostasy or no apostasy, JW's cannot afford to allow the existence of "true Christians" as an organized body much beyond the first century.
That is a good point TD. As I was typing the response the 144,000 issue flashed through my mind. It's probably one of the main reasons that Watchtower insists apostasy took over Christianity immediately after the 1st Century. Can't have too many years go by, or it won't add up to a total of 144,000 being reached in the 20th Century; it would have been reached much sooner. Actually, the math on the 144,000 is a big problem anyway.

Based on the information so far (nod to Blondie) it seems borderline whether codexs existed in the 1st Century or only scrolls.
The Century is in question, but as BluesBrother pointed out apostasy exploded at the beginning of the 2nd Century after the death of the Apostles, so it's likely a 1st Century depiction.
At any rate, copies of Scripture were very rare at the time. Isn't it true that a person needed to be wealthy to own one? An ordinary Christian family man would not have been able to have the Scriptures, scroll or codex. And if he did have one, it seems unlikely he would have carryied it around in public.
As Phizzy says, they are making early Christians look just like modern JWs.
