Do you have to deal with a psychopathic person?
by moshe indef: psychopathy (/sa?
'k?p?i/[1][2]) is a mental disorder characterized primarily by a lack of empathy and remorse, shallow emotions, egocentricity, and deceptiveness.
psychopaths are highly prone to antisocial behavior and abusive treatment of others, and are very disproportionately responsible for violent crime.

The CEO of my company is a regular Patrick Bateman (american psycho). I know one day he will bring an axe into the office.
He even looks the part.

An Old Argument.... does it hold water?
by AK - Jeff inestimates range from 4 million to 15 million children die from starvation each year on this planet.
that's between 500 and 1700 children a day, depending on what numbers you accept.
still, no matter which numbers you use, doesn't this make you arrive at one of the following conclusions?.

I don't know much about Theology either P.Sac, but I know home-spun wisdom when I see it, and I don't see a whole lot wrong with the Hitchsters reasoning.
Agreed.
And to answer the OP, no, it does not hold water. Next question please.

Is the "Watchtower Study" = Question and answer a form of brainwashing??
by Witness 007 inon sundays study we were always told to keep answers brief and from the paragraph as some brothers would add "other meterial" to their comments.
the "correct" answer is right there in the paragraph.
read question --------find answer in paragraph------underline/highlight------read related {not] scripture-----raise hand---give answer from paragraph as though it's your own thought.

The washtowel (i chuckle every time i see that) "study" is an absolute joke. I was known as one of the "good" watchtower readers. People would always complement me on how clear my reading was, and how nicely it flowed. They said they could really tell that I studied diligently.
Uh, I never studied that trash.
Half the time i wouldn't even bother fake underlining my magazine. And several times I could be seen grabbing a fresh copy of the study issue on my way to the stage to read.
It was easy enough to throw a few comments together. Just use a lot of "key words", ( jehovah, jesus, faith, armageddon, internet ) and you could have the whole hall nodding in agreement to whatever you said.
The last 2 years I was in I stopped commenting altogether, although I was still a watchower reader.

What a disappointment.
I talked to my pops the other day. He's an elder on the periphery. He told me he and my mom would be at this zone meeting. He also told me to get back to the meetings, because "the society has never been more sure" and that "things are wrapping up". He gave the impression that this zone meeting would be some sort of big reveal. Sounds like it was just another boasting session.
The org sure loves to flash big numbers in our faces.

Do the Governing Body members ever go Door-to-Door?
by 00DAD inin his book, in search of christian freedom, ray franz wrote that that gb members for the most part never participated in door-to-door work.
they were "too busy with more important things.
" (gee, how come that excuse wouldn't work for the rest of us?

That photo is shockingly bad and I am really surprised that made it through final edits. Herd couldn't even be arsed to take a real fake field service photo? And how would you feel if you were "brother black guy" and were excited to have your photo in the WT only to see your face cut out and Herd's pasted in?

JWs and Jesus
by lilbluekitty inas many of you already know, i was raised in the "truth", 3rd generation on my mother's side, 5th or something on my dad's side so i've been a jw for a long time, not so much now.. anyway, those of you who either spent a long time in the religion or who actually came from a regular christian religion first or became one later, did any of you notice how jws feel about jesus?
though they're supposed to be "true" christians, they don't talk about christ much or don't talk about his sacrifice much.
i know jws (and i) don't believe in the trinity but what's wrong with being more thankful to him for what he did for us?

I was a JW for 22 years and I have no idea where you guys are getting this. Jesus was always mentioned, and everyone was encouraged to display "Christ-Like" qualties. To say that he was never mentioned is just wrong.

"Doom Now Awaits Them...They Will Not Survive Armageddon!"
by Franklin Massey inhere's a nice, positive, uplifting song from the jehovah's witnesses' "sing to jehovah" song book.
my favorite part is at 1:30.

LOL. That song is based on a song from the Old Testament that may be the oldest part of the Bible, way back when YHWH was just a sea-god. It's got nothing to do with Armageddon. It's actually called The Song of The Sea.
Sounds interesting. Where did you read this?

I used to have my school friends make cd's for me that I would play in secret on my walkman. I listened to all kinds of music, most of it considered "bad". I would get paranoid and hide these CD's in various places in my room.
A couple times my Dad found them, or caught me listening when I thought I was alone. He would then take the CD out to his truck to listen to it, then a few minutes later he would come back for me and we would listen to it together. He would stop the music after every curse, or objectionable lyric and look over at and ask if I thought Jehovah approved of that. Then he would bust out his bible and throw some scriptures at me. This was torture of the highest order and would usually end up with me shedding tears of guilt.
It was some years later before I discovered the greatness of the mp3 player. Now I could listen to all the satanic music that I wanted without fear of forgetting CD's in hidden places, and even if my dad saw my mp3 player he was too dumb to operate it.
Thanks Satan!
