I've got to thank Marv and Mad S again for this stuff. I've been getting into it—it takes a lot of time to digest it all & figure out what's going on.
This looks like it might well become a MAJOR headache for the WTS. It will be worth keeping tabs on to be sure. Maybe a lot of naïve people, including the plaintiffs, will have to wake up to reality.

There's some interesting stuff here. If yo go to p. 36 it appears that the WTS is attempting to avoid paying some new taxes to Caesar (actually Calif.). What about giving him/them his/their due per Jesus' words?

one of the many questions that i am asked is what are the current gb members like, who are the hardliners and who are more moderate.. because of my previous job, at a european bethel, i had dealings with most of them with the exception of sam herd.. these are my observations of my conversations with them and how others who had dealings with them.. other ex bethelites may have contrary views to mine, but i would be surprised.. i had spent a lot of time with splane, lett and morris.
hardliners.
david splane, without doubt the one who commands the most respect and attention.

I am wondering, however, how your observations on Pierce jibe with Barb Anderson's portrayal of him. Are you familiar with her statements?

Since the current GB members were all hand picked by Ted Jaracz, NO, there is no R Franz, D Sydlik, or L Berry there. Those guys were his nemeses! Berry was Knorr's man who removed TJ as branch servant in Australia back in the 60-70s, so TJ never forgave him. Berry, who ran the Writing Dept., also had a bachelor's degree, and you can see from recent reports how the current GB members have been ranting against that! I think Barb A (?) has related that things were so bad between TJ and DS that at 'get-togethers' in Bethelites' rooms, DS would leave if TJ showed up!
There doesn't seem to be anyone even remotely competent to think & write anything other than 'meeting the needs of the bros.' anymore. I remember one Writing Dept. bro. telling me some years ago how they needed some real scholarly types but how there was opposition to that. And that was while Sydlik and Berry were still alive. With no liberal GBers now, you can just imagine how they think: 'Research the truth? We already have it, brother! No need to research it.'
Anyway, it's all changed now. TJ's thinking rules thru his selected protegés, and that rules out anything theological.

I've been mulling over some of the recent changes in the organization (henceforth, O). Here are a few ideas. I'd enjoy having your reactions. Of course, if you've been enlightened and have read up on the real way things are in the O, the official reasons given are never the actual ones!
I. The real reasons for doing away with the book study:
1. It was a place where the b.s conductor could be somewhat independent, without the other elders present to constantly check on him. That idea of having other peers there to monitor each other is very big in O thinking. Might there have been a pattern of elders getting in trouble by going off on their own interpretation of the Society's policy/interpretation or even the scriptures themselves, and it started with the b.s.?
2. A pattern emerged as to pedo elders' steps to get close to the cong's children. It revealed that they often used the intimate setting of the b.s. to begin their grooming of the kids.
II. Doing away with Bethel elders.
1. The GB is worried about the constant leaks of confidential stuff never supposed to be revealed to average publishers, let alone to opposers! They have discovered that much of this comes from 'independent minded' Bethelites who were privy to some of this material b/c of being Bethel elders. Thus the clampdown & attempt to stop the moles. After all, being able to get the Branch Organization book on line must be pretty painful to loyal WT heavies!

some forums/boards have a greetings section for newbies, but i couldn't find one here, so i guess i should post here.. i was an active witness in the 70s and 80s but decided i couldn't conscientiously continue participating so i just dropped out.
unlke many others, i don't have witness family.
thus it was easy to just move & drop out.

Thx, NewChap. Yes, from what I can tell these undercover guys/gals do provide insight into what's going on. That's why I find Barb A's stuff so intriguing. She really got into some super-secret stuff at Brooklyn. The organization truly seems to have changed their idea of what sisters can do these days. What would JFR think? Ooops, sorry, I forgot: he's probably still having his input from heaven . . .
I see several sister lawyers active in defending the Society. Then there is this sister Joline Chu (sp.?) who has written stuff on the persecution of JWs in the Nazi concentration camps. I wonder how far they will use the sisters, esp. after what happened with Barb A. I guess the policy makers are sort of in a bind. They let so many married ones stay at Bethel now that they've got all these sisters to find jobs for. After all, there are only so many billets for hairdressers and maids.

Thus it was easy to just move & drop out. For 20+ years I have kept somewhat abreast of what's been going on, but in my most recent checking in, I found the GB has completely changed. I haven't heard of a single one currently on it. I've also heard of numerous changes, like doing away with the book study and Bethel elders. I guess even among such a conservative lot, things do always change. I never would have predicted the book study thing though.
I should thank Barb Anderson for her sharing of facts and not just venting feelings (no offense intended to those who do just vent feelings here though). I find her work quite fascinating.
Well, I guess that's as good a first post as I can make right now. Still a little skittish about actually joining one of these x-JW forums, so please understand. Do active Witnesses also come here?
I did notice how few new members there are here, at least according to the members list, but then I wasn't on it yet, so maybe that's not a good indicator. But it looks like a forum of/for established members.
