Excellent question. Thinking back, it is interesting how many articles weren't actually about the thing they were supposed to be about. So, new light was routinely introduced in some tangential paragraph in an article about a different topic entirely. Or, as in this case, a comment flogging some tendentious point or other.

Revelation didn't seem as prone to this as some other books; on the other hand, that book was all about the WT talking about how important the WT was, so maybe it amounts to the same thing.

I think there really is some level at which the guys at the top genuinely need to convince themselves. I've talked with enough JWs about this to know that they think it has serious problems -- for precisely the same reasons everybody knows. In a way similar to the way they got rid of references to the Babylon book after years of people pointing out how it was absurd, I think the Trinity brochure has been put down.

The question is whether they will feel a need to publish a replacement, or simply ignore the project altogether.

Well, ravens, I think you will find the Falcons have developed a pretty good idea of how to deal with mobile QBs, having played Wilson (W), RGIII (W), and Newton (W,L). Green Bay simply had no idea what to do with Kaep., the "spy" being not so much a strategy for dealing with him as a wish. Is the 49er defense really better than Seattle's, upon whom we hung 30 points?

Another visit from the elders

so i have another visit from the elder this week.

this time they want to speak with my wife, still a believer and myself.

i think they want to know my position about my children attending the meetings and some other things.. while preparing myself for it i though of a challenge for the elders and my wife.

Look, man. Either you believe the JWs are the one true church or you don't. The JWs are the one true church if and only if 1914 is true. If they are the one true church then they are allowed to change their teachings as they see fit, since they don't teach that their own teachings are inspired -- so they have always been subject to change.

Pretty simple.

What argument is there for a single God?

mormon culture is replete with the concept of multiple gods and requires it to work.

other than a few biblical references does anyone have any compelling arguments for why any god, deist , creationist or full on personal god would - of necessity- be alone.

the argument seems somewhat weaker if the gender is applied as well.

Then why create something disharmonious? If the initial state is perfect harmony and then you purposefully create a universe which is less than you ( Satan was prior to the Fall) are you not intentionally diminishing yourself and rejecting your own perfection. Was this triune being more or less after the atonement?

Why, indeed? The Christian thinking is that God is love and did all that because he loves us. Doesn't make sense, of course, but that's the way love is.

As for the diminishing thing, the Christian concept of God is that he is that than which nothing greater can be conceived. What that means is that he is the thing that can't be added to or taken away from.

He isn't the greatest being, like Zeus or something, because Zeus and a turkey sandwich is greater than Zeus by himself. The Christian God isn't like that: God plus creation isn't greater (or less than) than God by himself. It's a different concept of God than most JWs are used to working with -- really than most people are used to working with. But there it is.

at the last elders school i heard from a few different attendees that the average age was easily 60+.

there will be a lot of elders gone within the next 10yrs.

there is nowhere near enough young brothers to replace these ageing elders.

Doesn't matter. Most of the tasks in a congregation are pretty low-skill and can be pushed down the chain to MS. You can run a congregation with 4 Elders, no problem.
