What was your most DISTURBING event as an elder ? (Per T.O.S. no full names please).
by Balaamsass ini'll start the ball rolling.
dealing with kids in any type of judicial manner.
i would do everything i could to get parents to "deal with it-kindly" at home.

Is anyone else getting ready for Christmas?
by juni ini was in the mood today... got the tree cheap (came w/lights), decorations and ribbon for half price and made the bow myself to save money.
i was going to put it aside until after thanksgiving, but couldn't resist completing the project.
i just have to get some fiber fill for "snow" at the base.

Awesome! I still have my Christmas tree and decorations packed up. I live in the USA, so I am enjoying getting ready for Thanksgiving now, but the very next day I plan to DECK THE HALLS !!!
For members with children of any age, (or the child within), I recommend you listen to Gloria Estefan's songs "Christmas through your eyes" - I sing this song all year long - it has brought a lot of healing to me ...
Till I had you I didn't know
That I was missing out
Had to grow up and see the world
Through different shades of doubt
Give me one more chance to dream again
One more chance to feel again
Through your young heart
If only for one day let me try
I wanna see Christmas through your eyes
I want everything to be the way it used to be
Back to being a child again thinking the world was mine
I wanna see Christmas, Christmas through your eyes
I see the rain, you see the rainbow hiding in the clouds
Never afraid to let your love show
Won't you show me howWanna learn how to believe again
Find the innocence in me again
Through your young heart
Help me find a way, help me try
I wanna see Christmas through your eyes
I want everything to be the way it used to be
Back to being a child again thinking the world was kind
I wanna see Christmas, Christmas through your eyes
I wanna see Christmas through your eyes
I want everything to be the way it used to be
Back to being a child again thinking the world was kind
I wanna see Christmas, Christmas through your eyes -

Do you hate God
by Star tiger ini beginning to think that this would be a good way of thinking, a totally righteous being would not let all the shit that is happenning to people prevail, this being cannot have the best interests of man as his first priority, it's all about ego and no matter how the human familty suffers, he hates pretty much everyone, as the tv show says, your fired, let's get a better god, one who at least gives everyone a chance!!.
i welcome comments from god apologists, to at least have an argument as to why they put they're faith in someone that does'nt give a shit about them!.

Ridiculous elder ideas and rules
by Juan Viejo2 inin an earlier thread, i went off topic for a moment to share excerpts from an email i received from an active sister living in the midwest usa.
she mentioned that the elders in her congregations were extremely conservative and criticized the flock for using certain colors of highlighters in their magazines.
she also reported that they were all over the sisters for wearing stylish boots or tennis shoes during the winter months.. i know that some elder groups can be very liberal, supportive and loving toward their flocks - while others are exactly opposite to the point that they become overbearing and oppressive.. what have you experienced as far as ridiculous, over-the-top rules and ideas enforced by local elders?.

"Certain color highlighters" WOW !!!
"The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." If they could only apply this principle to all aspects of their lives ...

Quote: "On the topic of sexual morality, it's interesting to me that even though my wife and I aren't promoting abstinence until marriage, our kids aren't seeking out promiscuous flings."
Yeap, contrary to WTC wants people to believe ...

Can a non JW attend JW Weddings?
by camicia inhi all, i've posted here before about my daughter's desire to get baptized as a jw and me attempting to prevent that, and the worst has happened: she's fallen in love and going full steam ahead with this thing.
i won't bore you with my feelings on the matter, if she's happy, i'm happy (and i really hope she's happy) but it just crossed my mind: if my daughter and her husband are jw's, will her family be able to go to the wedding?
what about socializing in general?

If the groom's family is also JW and if they are hardcore JWs, they have a saying in this too, it will not be only your daugther's decision ... also in some congregations everything has to have the elders' approvals.
Read as much as you can about this subject and be prepared to have your heart broken - just in case because you don't know what kind of pressure from the groom's family, congregation and elders your daughter will be under, really! Good luck!

Do Not Let Your Opponent Define You...
by truth_b_known ini recently went to a class offered by my local chamber of commerce that teaches people how to run an election campaign.
i did this because a good friend of mine asked me to assist him in getting elected to a local county office.
i'm highly involved in politics, now, and thought it would be something fun to do.. one point that really struck a chord with me went something like this:.

Awesome !!! Being labeled by "titles" defined by the WTC means you are still part of that somehow ... that's the point my mother doesn't understand, I have nothing to do with them anymore ... I don't have to submit to their rules of talking to their elders ... I AM NOT PART OF THEIR WORLD ... submiting to their rules would mean for me to give them credit or acknowledging their existence and I don't give credit to LIES ... an empire that in MY WORLD would mean I am submitting to the devil ... LOL!!! For me the Watchtower is SO year 2002 ago - they are way behind in my timeline.
By you coming to that realization, have catapulted yourself years ahead, it is a huge quantum leap to another degree of consciousness. I love those moments of self revelation!!!!!
I define myself as a Daughter of the Most High God, totally equipped, loved, blessed, accepted, forgiven, prosperous, with life eternal (Christ) inside of me, and these trickle down in everything I do in my daily life.

My story in more detail
by freshstart inso as i stated in my first post, i was born to witness parents.
from early on, my parents were both quite fanatical about the "truth.
" we couldn't even eat lucky charms cereal because they thought it had satanic connections.

Freshstart ... as I read your post I see familiar situations, pain and tears ... I am in awe of you and I am happy for the courage you have to put your life out there ... I don't know you personally but I love you and feel tremendous joy that you are a SURVIVOR and not a victim anymore. One thing I learned from a therapist is that IT IS OKAY to talk, it is okay to call your parents MONSTERS, it is okay to feel anger, resentment, it is okay to bring all your bad memories of abuse to the front of your brain to be processed, to deal with it and to finally HEAL and be able to claim your life and live it to the fullest in happiness and peace.
As children we think it is a gross thing to talk about our parents ... but just because a human being is a parent it does not grant him special rights to abuse children or have special treatment for their actions, and they should be labeled as everybody else ... abusers, rapists, thieves, liars, criminals, then it is up to us to reclaim our sanity and forgive four our own sake, initiate some dialogue with them and set new terms in the parent/child relationship, if possible. My children are 13 and 14 know and they were very little when I told them that if I ever abuse them in any way that they needed to tell their dad, the authorities, or tell a teacher because as a parent I didn't have the right to hurt them. I did this to protect them from me in the event I snap one day due to the abuse I have experienced in the past, although I promised myself that I was going to treat my children way different than the way my parents treated me. One of my fears to this day is that my kids may one day look to the past and be hurt because of me. So far so good and I have awesome, wholesome, happy children, that know that God and mom love them no matter what.
You are in the right path, "But I can't change the past, so I'm determined to embrace the present." Thanks God for TODAY ... Thanks God for you!!!

Watchtower 2008 says belief in Evolution makes you a helpless lost Orphan???
by Witness 007 inwatch feb 1st "if we really are the product of evolution and there is no creator, the human race would in a sense be an orphan.
mankind would have no source of superior wisdom to consult - no one to help us solve our problems.
we would have to resort to human wisdom to avert enviromental disaster.

Mankind would have no source of superior wisdom to consult - no one to help us solve our problems. We would have to resort to human wisdom to avert ENVIROMENTAL DISASTER. to solve POLITICAL CONFLICTS and to guide us through personal crisis.
Wrong ... there would be Watchtower type organizations ... they are describing themselves LOL!!!!

How long can one continue as an unbelieving JW?
by mankkeli inis it really possible to continue as a jw but not believing in it anymore.
for how long can one keep up with this pace of life?.
i will appreciate it if any scientific study had been done on this and what has the result showed?..

How long can this mechanical way of life really last?. Fortunately, it is not a life or death sentence, but it can last for as long as one personally wants it. Meaning, as adults. we have the power to stop it, to change it, some don't do it because of fear, not so much of God, but peer and family pressure; and this goes for any kind of double life. Appearing "normal" to others takes a lot of energy, and the conflicts may lead to depression.
I will appreciate it if any scientific study had been done on this and what has the result showed?. I don't know if there is any scientific research on this aspect related to JWs, but any study on living a double life can shed a lot on the issue.
