I had to submit to a drugs test yesterday.

i had to submit to a random work place drugs test yesterday, of which i passed.

in this country smoking marijuana / methamphetamine is illegal.

the thing that really struck me was that despite the illegal nature of it, was just how prevalent and problem is.

The worrying part here is, if this is a reflection of the population at large. What must this be costing in terms of health care and the social issues? What’s this costing where marijuana is legal?

Why exactly does it worry you if people smoke weed? What are the health care and social issues you're concerned about?

I smoke weed almost every single day and have a job where a lot of business money is on the line and there's never once been a problem. I have never had any health related issues from weed and I'm in my 40s. The only health issue I've ever had was needing back surgery, but that had nothing to do with weed.

I know you weren't making a comparison, but weed is better than alcohol in literally every conceivable way possible.

A different slant on the Montana Verdict Reversal

i was thinking how the jw's are no doubt going to point to this as a show of jehovah's hand in the matter.. however i think it may also have a negative impact and lead others to learn the truth about the truth.. this ruling does nothing to remove the fact that child abusers were among 'god's people' and the elders did nothing to protect the flock.

regardless of the fine, i think any publicity is good publicity for helping others wake up.

that's just my 2 cents.... and i could be totally wrong as well, but that is what this board is for right :-).

I was thinking how the JW's are no doubt going to point to this as a show of Jehovah's hand in the matter.

Does that mean that all the times the Watchtower had to pay out money to victims that Jehovah's hand was directing that as well? You can't have one without the other.

ok, to start, i no longer believe the scriptures are inspired.

may be some writers were influenced but that does not mean all what they wrote was correct.

does this mean there is no creator?

I'm a creationist who is a 100%, staunch believer in evolution. There are many of us out here. It is the only rational "solution" to the question that I have heard presented so far. I considered atheism for awhile, but found it to be simply too irrational to be acceptable so here I am.

I think it might even be the actual official stance of the Catholic Church, although I don't keep up with their teachings enough to know if that's strictly true.

I think it's irrelevant, to be honest. The issue is not one of medical care (in the dub context), the issue is one of clerical decree.

Whether there are health benefits or not, it still is not biblical for Watchtower to force people to forego particular medical procedures.

Why is Life Expectancy in the USA So Low Compared to Other Countries?

i was looking at the world health org.

report and it shows the us ranks 37th in the world (tied with albania) for combined male/female life expectancy.

the top 5 were japan, switzerland, singapore, israel and spain, all around 83 years.

I think it would be interesting to see life expectancy if you removed a few cities. Chicago, Washington DC, LA, Baltimore.

i encourage you to read the whole thing, it is worth the laugh.. "it wasn’t pompeo knocking but he would have beamed approval on the two young women on the doorstep.

I've been hit by others on the street and had letters from lawyers show up in my mailbox. I didn't go on the internet and whine about it. I threw them in the trash and moved on with life.

elders wont pray for someone?

a former member said that elders told a relative of his after she was dfed that they would not be praying for her.

is that some kind of policy, or were they just doing their own thing in that instance?

They would be puzzled, troubled, even stumbled if they were to hear someone praying publicly about the erring one.

Isn't it interesting how everything is constantly stumbling the dubs? Talk about weak faith when those around you can barely do anything without sending a person off a ledge.

JWs, The WatchTower Society, Child Abuse and Disfellowshipping

something just struck me.. is the wts the only religion that won't kick people out for abusing children, but would kick you out for visiting a website that informs you that the wts won't kick people out for abusing children .... it really shows where their sensibilities lie.

they are more interested in acting as gatekeepers to information, especially information about them, than providing basic levels of protection to the children of their members.. maybe someone with a better turn of phrase can shorten it, it might make a good meme - something short and simple that really makes people think:.

"the wts - tougher on those who read reports of jw child abuse than on jws who conduct child abuse".

Oh my, one of these days after smoking a fattie I'm going to watch one of the videos of that rubber faced moron on the governing body (can't remember his name). That has got to be an experience.
