What did Jesus mean at Matthew 10:34-36?
by serenitynow! in"do not suppose that i have come to bring peace to the earth.
i did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
for i have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.".

Does all posts about the bible have to be like this? what is wrong with some of you people?
@serenitynow : Salvation is based on an individual basis, not family, or church. Its each man for himself. I would suggest you read the whole chapter to get what Jesus was saying. Its about being able to stand for the faith in truth no matter the circumstances you face. Father being turned against son shows the severity of the times we are headed into. Selfisness had become the order of the day now, people merely think about others apart from themselves. Even brothers are turned against each other for that sake of vain things (wealth, fame, power). But in all we should be able to stand for the truth and await the reward.
One thing many JW's don't realise is that the WT teach that its each man for himself when it comes to salvation/judgement. The truth can only come from the word of God (bible) and not through any church or organisation.

What are the best Bible Translations?
by Londo111 ingrowing up in a jw family, my parents and my grandparents had many versions of the bible...not just the new world translation.
sometimes i read these.
but i always bought the hype that the new world translation was the most unbiased and most consistent in rendering hebrew and greek into the modern language.

King James Version is the best. It really gives you the challenge when you read it. Most translations are quite biased too, including NIV, NWT, NKJV(they have a new occultic symbol on them).
One thing you should understand is that when you read the bible yo dont depend on your own understanding, let the spirit of God guide you.

My first conversation with an "anointed"
by Terry ini was not "born in".. i was recruited.. i've told the story dozens of times.. it began as a "best friend" at school comraderie and ended with my baptism 4 or 5 years later.. i had no desire up front to join any church or attend any services or even to associate myself with people who talk about "god" and "faith".. it creeped me out.. my family was not sociable.
they were like hermits.. my grandmother had been reared catholic and had attended convent school.
she told horror stories about the stern, disciplinarian mother superior and corporal punishments by the nuns.. i had the bible read to me barely at all.

looooool............This is the best i have read so far today, amazing work Terry, i only wished you had stayed back so the story would be much longer.
I wonder if Boot's grannie was reading a NWT bible. I guess it doesnt take much to be an anointed one.

I have always stated that JW's are complete hipocrates and i have just been proven again. Pot calling Kettle black, very typical of them.

Outright Misrepresentations of Quotes and Citations in Watchtower Literature
by Londo111 inthe research of doug mason, annomaly, and others have been eye opening in regards to the society's recent articles on 607 bc.
what i find most disturbing is the misrepresentations of scholars, who are quoted in such a way to say one thing, when they meant something completely different.
it is one thing to teach a doctrine, and quite another to play fast and loose with the truth.

What is the WT's current stance on the age of the earth?
by popcorn_eater inthe reason i ask is i remember reading quite recently, in i think an "awake" mag about creation, that other churches confuse people by insisting on young earth creationism, which causes people to lose their faith.
the magazine was going off on groups and churches who insist on teaching science that conflicts with the bible (....).
i thought the wt was a proponent of this young earth creationism as well.

@james_woods:
Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.so why would God do something in a scientic manner?
i have been trying to say this for a long time but people are just not listening, You cant compare the bible and science, The first is the work of God(and some through man) and the latter the work of man. Without man there would be no science. Science only serves as how far man has come in aquiring knowledge about himself and the things surrounding him.
Lets consider the account of God parting the red sea to create a path of dry land, how does science explain this? again Jesus was said to have walked on water and all. These are just a few of the things we cant comprehend/explain as men even with our scientific knowledge.
A more fascinating account would be that of Ezekiel 37 : where God literally creates living men out of nothing but dry bones to serve as a framework in a matter of minutes/hours . Now from this perspective tell me if it sounds absurd for God to create man in less that a day.
I really feel sorry for the JWs because they dont even seem to believe/ have enough knowledge about the God they claim to serve/worship. Why else would they try to comlement the bible with science?.
