Good question! I still can't seem to quite figure it all out. People say that a great deal of money is made from 'publishing', but if most or all countries give the magazines away, where does the money come from?? Members themselves, 'voluntary' contributions......in our country, the magazines are given away and due to the economic situation, I seriously doubt the average member can afford to pay for his/her material.

Forgive me, Lee, I certainly don't want to hijack your thread, but can Undisfellowshipped or anyone else refer us to the place (places?) where we can read that it's OK to use these components and products?

U.N. Question
by miner incan someone tell me if there is a clear statement, preferably from the u.n., that shows the watchtower's dishonesty in this matter?
not long ago, i was discussing the u.n. situation with a jw friend.
he decided to call the wt legal department in this country.

Thanks to each one of you for your help, esp. Hawkaw for taking time to point out the finer points. And Hawkaw, I understand that you played a quiet, behind-the-scenes role in the Times article. That's HUGE!!! Many thanks for your ongoing efforts to bring a little justice to the boys in Brooklyn...you are an inspiration to us!

by zenpunk inyour series on the history of the blood issue was amazing.
my husband left the organization before i did but he always held on to the belief that blood transfusions were just wrong.
so one night we read your series, parts 1 through 6 together.

Can someone tell me if there is a clear statement, preferably from the U.N., that shows the WatchTower's dishonesty in this matter?
Not long ago, I was discussing the U.N. situation with a JW friend. He decided to call the WT legal department in this country. The lawyer there explained that the rules had changed and so when that happened, WT immediately terminated their relationship. Of course he was unable to provide any details as to the nature of the changes.
I realize for someone wanting to get to the bottom of the situation, it is possible-with a little work-to prove that there were no changes: for example to compare the obligations for NGOs from year to year. However, if we don't dig so deeply, WT says there were changes and UN says there weren't.
Is there (or could there be) a statement from UN pointing out the false statements of the WT and challenging them to back up their remarks, or has the UN simply dismissed the whole mess, concentrating on more important matters?

John, one of my best friends is much like the friend you were telling about. He is a JW, attends most of the meetings and does his preaching as required. He has been 'counseled' about being friends with the world (hi, I'm the world, it's nice to meet you). Although I think he is beginning to see problems in his church, he doesn't want to discuss them yet. I'm trying to let him know that our friendship is unconditional and praying that God will give him the wisdom to see the inconsistencies and the courage to walk away. I suspect your friend enjoys your friendship because he can relax and be himself without having to play the part of a good Jehovah's Witness. May God give you patience!

Will You Miss This History Making Event?
by silentlambs inwill you miss this history making event?
as many of you may know in recent weeks wt has moved to silence victims and advocates by disfellowshipping those who have spoken out on child molestation within the organization.
spokesman for jehovahs witnesses have made allegations that are untruthful, from saying that they had no idea who was appearing on dateline, stating that it has been established policy that child molesters work only in twos in the door to door ministry, to stating the judicial meetings were over other sins against god.

Trinity quote....who remembers?
by miner ini'm hoping someone here can help me out.
i am involved in an on-going study with a jehovah's witness and our current topic of discussion is whether or not trinity is a biblical doctrine.
i seem to vaguely remember a wt quote where if people study the bible alone, they end up believing this trinity idea....did i dream this one up?

I know Russell said that without Scripture Studies, studying the Bible alone, one goes into darkness.
Also, the 08/15/81 Watchtower says reading the Bible exclusively causes people to revert right back to apostate doctrines that commentaries by Christendom's clergy were teaching 100 years ago (presumably Trinity).
Does anyone know of another WT quote, acknowledging the trinity concept in the Bible? -

Letter to all Branches------A Fake?
by miner inmany of you are no doubt familiar with the nov.1, 2001 "letter to all branches" putting forth the the library card defense.
(the letter can be seen at: ) i gave a copy of the letter to a jehovah's witness friend of mine who took it to one of his elders.
the elder said the letter is a fake because: (1) it is not written on official wt letterhead and (2) watchtower does not send such correspondence via the (eeeevil) internet.
