Unwritten rules at the Kingdom Hall, what were yours ???
by run dont walk inevery one of us who attended the kingdom hall, must have went through this at some time, and noticed things you were not supposed to do, even though it wasn't wrong.
the biggie at our hall was do not sit in the back row, i always did, what was the deal on that, why put chairs there.
- don't back you car in, someone would go out and check this nightly, ???.

No exchanges of gifts, thank you cards, invitations, etc., in the Kingdom Hall OR the parking lot. You had to find some other way of doing it. Weren't allowed to do it at the bookstudy either.
Brothers weren't allowed to wear coloured dress shirts, especially not for talks. If they wore anything other than pastel coloured dress shirts, they were considered unspiritual.
We were
orderedencouraged not to sit in the same seat every meeting. We were told this would help us to get to know others in the congregation, since we wouldn't be sitting by the same person all the time. How you're supposed to get to know someone during the meeting when you're not allowed to talk during the meeting is beyond me.We too had to fold the time slip in half. But not more than in half. That was a no-no.
Funny this one, in view of what I've seen so many people write about how the elders provide copied articles as "encouragement:" We weren't allowed to print out the Scriptures all on one page (some of the computer literate people in the congregation were doing that); you must follow in your Bible.
Oh, there's more....

It's my life - Bon Jovi
That was mine. I bought the CD simply for that song. I was going through a divorce, dealing with my father's admission of sexual abuse, and ended up getting disfellowshipped, all within a few months. Somehow, when I heard that song, it gave me the courage to just do what I wanted to do.

I was only 2, but my parents obviously did. The school I was going to go to was going to allow me in at 4 (instead of the required 5) because I could already read and write at the 5th grade level. My parents decided not to put me in school because 'Armageddon was coming any minute now.' Yeah, OK. I graduated 11 years ago.

Give experiences as to what it felt to be a female in the JW's..
by Country Girl ini can tell you how bad it felt.
it felt bad every time i put some "doily" on my head cuz some fourteen year old baptized freak was saying the pryaer that day.
it felt good when i had to put a napkin on my head, knowing i was the oldest child, because my brother was baptized... and i was older and babysitting him.. to show "submission.".

Hee-hee!
Viv, I am SOOOO with you on the territory thing. It got really annoying when you had to sit there for ages, first for the idiot brother to figure out how to divide a few people up into car groups, and then how to assign territory. I don't know if this was true everywhere, but in our area, they actually had to give a talk about not spending too much time standing on the street corners assigning territory, because it scared the householders to see a mob of us. *rolls eyes* So many times, I felt like just getting up there, shoving the guy back in his seat, and taking 2 minutes to do what it took him 15 to do.
I never understood why sisters couldn't do the Bible reading talks (#2). I mean, how hard is it to read a few verses and apply them? But oh no, the sisters can only parrot exactly what is in some book. Wouldn't want those stupid females trying to apply a few verses without an outline already in place for them! *tsk tsk* *more eye rolling*
And don't get me started on how it isn't appropriate for women to carry the mikes, hand out magazines and books behind a counter, or anything else like that, as if having a penis endowed a man with some special abilities to keep track of how many magazines each person got. (I could understand how it would help in mike carrying.) In our cong, we actually had a sister doing the accounts for a while, coz there weren't any "qualified" brothers who knew how to do it. You can bet as soon as a man came along who could add and subtract, she was not allowed to do them anymore. She sure did a better job than the guy did. Oh, and I typed up the talk schedules that they posted on the announcement board (Don't you dare say bulletin board! That's what Christendom calls it!) for my father. But of course, no one was allowed to know that it was my typing skills on display instead of my fathers. Bloody 'ell. What a bunch of lunatics.
Being a woman as a JW sucked bigtime. I was always too independent for it. It just took me a while to stand my ground.

Female sexuality and the WBTS
by dmouse inthis is my last post for a couple of weeks as i'm going on holiday (st ives).
my apologies to those waiting for august's km, it's going to be a bit late!.
anyhow... i was enjoying amazing's recent thread where he picks apart the society's view on masturbation and, like him, realized that female sexuality is seldom discussed.

I didn't realise female cows had horns. All the ones I've seen didn't. One of us looks really stupid now. (Could be me.)
That whole article is ridiculous.

Hmmm...if you're home when he calls back, you could always ask him if he remembers what Jesus himself said when he was asked to provide a sign.
What a stupid introduction anyway. *shakes head*

Hot Seat Series #1
by Amazing inas a complement to my justice series it seems only fitting to have judicial stories told from the perspective of those who have had to sit in the "hot seat" and face the watchtower tribunal of the three stooges ... many, maybe most, elders have never had to face a judicial committee.
were this to have been the case, maybe we would not have the horror stories, but rather more tempered justice among jws.. .
before i was an elder, i too faced the trinity of elders ... and sat in the infamous "hot seat" ... for what?

How many of you went to the elders when you / someone did something wrong ?
by run dont walk ini've read a lot of threads of late, where people stated when they did something wrong they would go the elders the next day and confess.. i find this truly bizzare !!!.
okay, maybe i didn't have a conscience as a jw, i did alot of things wrong, but, that would be the f--kin' day i would go to the elders and confess anything.
i would never tell those old goots anything, because then they would have something to hang over you for a long time.

*raises hand sheepishly*
I was one of the dummies who confessed. A few times, it was after someone had either already told them, or threatened to tell them. Once I went on my own. Duh. *rolls eyes*
How stupid! And JWs say that "confession" like the Catholics do is wrong. *shakes head* If I were a religious person and followed the rules, I'd prefer the Catholic way.

Blondie, your concluding scripture was always one of my favourites to point out to others as well. Spot on.
