I think you are being very reasonable. I have one suggestion. Instead of studying with them to find out what they are all about (and thereby subjecting yourself to rather "sneaky" brainwashing), just check out quotes from all their literature here:
I assure you, that is all legit. That is a much easier way to find out what they teach on many subjects. And it's faster. Then decide where to go from there.
i moved away from ohio a while back i still have afew friends there, they are wanting to meet some xjws.. if you are in the area and could reply that would be great.

(of course this is just a veiled disguise for me to claim some of my own bragging rights.
good things happen all the time to my friends on this site and we never hear about them.
I've rescued a dog from an abusive situation, and he's happily living with us now. And I just might be rescuing another one...just have to "ask" my husband. ;) It makes me feel good to be able to provide a loving home for those who cannot speak for themselves and have endured things that no one should.

my wifes father has just died.
he wasn't a jw but his wife is.my wife and i are recently disassociated.. the thing is, the reason my wife and i disassociated is because of cruel comments made by certain sisters toward my disabled daughter.
now my wife has to see these 2 particular people everyday at school (their 2 kids are in class with ours) now usually, they stand away from my wife waiting for their kids and walk out after us.
That's f****** ridiculous. So much for loving Christians.
I know it's difficult, but wasting your energy on them will only p*** you off more. Just realise how pathetic they are, and take satisfaction in knowing they are wasting their lives, and most likely, won't realise it until they're old and grey.

i am trying to find a copy of the old pink "paradise book".
i remember having one as a kid growing up and seeing some of the pictures in it.
i can't help but think that some of those images started the fear and guilt in me as a child and would like to show my wife (a non jw) so she might better understand how i could have stayed in as long as i did.. she hears me talk now and can't imagine how i could have believed such a pile of bunk or how my parents still can't see how totally crazy some of the "truth" sounds.
