There was a MS in our hall who was disfellowshipped because he was gay. I always liked him. He was such a nice man, so caring. When I was very ill and bedridden, he was the only one who came to visit me, and he brought me a lovely bouquet of roses. I have been trying to find him, to let him know I escaped, but I can't seem to locate him.

Possible Anti - Apostates here on JWD.
by link inthis is obviously in response to the thread "possible apostates here on jwd" started by flying high now.
it was clearly not intended to be taken seriously but it does reflect another possibility that should be considered seriously and that is that there are anti-apostates on this board.. i do not consider myself to be a particularly paranoid person but i have seen signs of things that do not seem quite right to me.
so what do i mean and how would an anti-apostate operate here?

I dunno, but I do know there are JWs and other troublemakers lurking here. Someone here is claiming to have spoken with me, and they are passing info to my parents, telling them what I say.
*waves to stalker*
Feel free to tell my parents I've discovered more of their lying ways. They're such good Christians, aren't they?

Tips For Lurkers To Get Out
by minimus indo you have any suggestions to help jehovah's witnesses who visit this site get out of the religion?
-
Wolfgirl
If they can read everything that's posted here, and still think that they've got the "right" religion, then they will not leave unless something happens to them directly.
I see it as no different than any substance abuse...the addicted person has to WANT help. In the same way, a JW has to WANT to get out.

Internal conflict ? A JW is always "sick" and misses meetings. Doubting?
by somebodylovesme inthe person in question is my husband's mother who is a jw.
she is in her late 40s... has been a devout dub for 20 years or so, and has never to my knowledge had any spiritual "problems".
she exhibits every characteristic that the typical rank-and-file should have.

Towards the end for me, I frequently used "illness" (feigned or real) as an excuse not to go to the meetings.

Has anyone ever personally written to the Society?
by seeitallclearlynow ini've been listening to marlene mercado's audio testimony on jwinfoline while reading and posting here today; and it reminded me that i had written to the society once, years ago, and i received a response.
the response made me angry with them, although they were agreeing with me on something that i was complaining about.
what made me angry was that they made no acknowledgment that they put a lot of pressure on the brothers to reach out and even after they have attained an office of oversight, a lot more pressure is put on the elders and servants to do more, do just so, etc....they claimed that it was my elder husband's own fault that he was barely ever home, and when he was, he was in his den or on the phone with someone who couldn't make any decisions on their own.

I wrote to them twice. Once was when I was a kid; I think I was hoping my letter would get printed on the back of the WT...lol! I got a form letter in response, which was really disappointing to a kid, you know.
The second time, I was asking for help in finding a particular illustration I had seen in an earlier publication; I couldn't remember where it was. I had already asked the elders in my congregation, and they didn't know where it was. So I described it in a letter to the Society. They wrote back and told me they didn't know where it was, but to keep looking.

When you were a dub.....did you ever fall asleep when you prayed in bed?
by gumby inwell i did .....all the time.
it always bothered me that i couldn't even stay awake to thank my god.
i found out later many did the same.

I used to fall asleep all the time. I felt really guilty about it. But after a while, I felt like I was saying the same things all the time in my prayers anyway. Nothing in my life ever changed, so it didn't seem that my prayers ever changed. After a while, I didn't feel anyone was really listening to me anyway.

The Society is gonna let you off your homework kids!
by nicolaou infrom the current (uk) edition of 'our kingdom ministry'.
take a close look at paragraph 4. am i the only one who can see the old pattern of the 1980's re-emerging?
i had thought that the watchtower had begun to take a more reasonable approach to the secular education of it's members children yet here they are again in 2004 willing to jeopardise the education these young people receive for the sake of indoctrination and control.. .

I can't believe they actually said that.

Best wishes! I divorced my JW husband. (I have no idea if he is still a JW, and don't care.) It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I know the going will be tough for a while, and it is a strain, but you will be thankful when it's all over.

I agree with Shamus. I remember what JWs were saying when a church in the area was burnt down. It was sort of a "Christendom getting its just reward" type scenario to them.
I'm glad no one was hurt, and I don't agree with arson. But...
we look at it as a sign of the times
Bring on the persecution complex!
