I appreciate being informed, because maybe someday, I can get my sister out with what I know. (Not holding my breath, though.)

Ever BUILD a Kingdom Hall?
by Gregor ini was involved in several, starting when i was about 10 or 11 with jobs like sweeping up sawdust or picking up loose nails.
i loved it.
once, when i was about 22 we were building the kh south of santa barbara in carpinteria.

I helped build the KH I went to for a while. Being a woman, I was told that I could help sweep up nails and hand things to the brothers. Being me, I told them no. Hee-hee!
They looked at me funnily, and I told them I was much stronger than I looked. I proved it by single-handedly carrying large things that it was taking 2 women to do. The men gaped; the women gaped and then glared. I said I was not about to spend the whole weekend doing stuff that they had kids doing. I did actual work. I nailed forms together that were used to shape the cement for curbing; I carried a lot of really heavy stuff. I helped the surveyor line everything up, and he said I was the best assistant he ever had. That really annoyed the "brother" who had been helping him up until I walked over. You could tell he was angry by the look on his face. That made me feel even better.
I've always enjoyed hard work, and building things. So I didn't mind the work. But even then, the attitude towards women grated on my nerves. I was so brainwashed, I didn't say much about it. But I guess I didn't fit the mold for what JW women were supposed to be.
I did get in trouble that weekend, for telling an elder to shut up. LOL! -

mother and sister in law ask if we believe it's the 'truth'?
by Victorian sky init was awful.
they knew my husband (primitive genius) and i were inactive for years both when we were single and married but they didn't know we were christians now.
they suspected and finally asked us during a recent visit whether or not we believe the org is the 'truth'?

EVERYONE is "sinning." The verse the JWs use to justify disfellowshipping was talking about a man who slept with his mother (something like that), and that they shouldn't associate with, not even eating a meal with, someone like that. The GB has twisted it all around.
I'm sorry you are going through this. I know how you feel, and so do many others here. You are not alone. Maybe they will come around. -

Where were you when the realization hit, that the WTS was not in the truth?
by whyizit ini was listening to a testimonial by valerie acuff and she said that she was sitting in an assembly, looking around at the crowd and thinking to herself, "this is your family, these are your people.".
she said at that moment she heard a voice inside say, "these are not your people, this is not your family, get up and leave now, and don't ever go back.
" so she took her two children at that very moment and left, and she never went back.

Lightning had to strike me more than once.
I knew something was wrong when the elders tried to convince my father, who had just admitted to sexually abusing me, to remain an elder. But I was in so much pain and shock at the time that it didn't completely sink in.
I completely stopped going, and got disfellowshipped for living with my now-husband before marriage. I was considering going back, and wrote the elders a letter, asking them some questions and saying that I really needed answers to them before I could think about reinstatement. I never got a response, and after a year of pestering my sister to find out why, they finally told her it was because I sounded argumentative to them, so they weren't going to answer. (Translation: They had no answers and couldn't justify their actions.)
My husband, who is an athiest, asked me a few simple questions that I had absolutely no answer for, and it completely shook me that I couldn't answer him after 25+ years of 'studying the Bible.' Then my DF'd aunt found me online, and showed me the UN scandal, Silent Lambs, etc.
That was the final bolt of lightning. -

Outdoor Spirituality.
by jeeprube ini often find myself engaged in outdoors activities.
once while fly-fishing on a sunday, i realized a deep spiritual feeling.
standing in a trout stream, watching an otter swim by, and listening to the gurgle of moving water, i felt closer to god than i ever had in a kingdom hall.. has anyone else ever felt this?

That is almost exactly how I feel. I am agnostic, so I don't immediately think of God when I'm out in nature. But I do feel some sort of connection and power when I'm in such a peaceful place.

Why wouldn't they reinstate them?
by hamsterbait ini am just thinking about all those df over issues which are now notorious for flip flopping.. when the wt has to change on the 607 thing - that is coming up i am sure - will those who disagreed with 607 be reinstated without further ado?.
does anybody know of people df for taking transplants who are reinstated now after the flop, or would it be a flip?.
when the now obviously imploding blood policy finally changes, how likely are those shunned for having a transfusion to be forgiven without them being the ones who have to grovel to the reptiles in brothel?.

I agree with the above. It's stupid, isn't it?

Do you think the media tells you the truth?
by free2beme ini am always amazed at how people i would consider, smart, believe the media so much.
they will say they have gone to college or have read information on topics, and then be swayed in their thinking by one news program.
do you trust the media?

Having lived in various places all over the world, it always amazed me how much difference there was in news reports on the same subject depending on where you lived. So no, I don't believe they are always telling the truth. I think that most places (even the BBC at times) will inadvertantly be biased one way or the other. What was really fascinating was how different US news reports about certain things were from everyone else in the world. Kind of scary, actually.
