JW leaders feel very threatened by young men.
If you want to see a good example of it, watch a young man try to rise in the ranks.
He either has to be connected to powers that be
Be super pioneer/spiritual
Brown nose to the ultimate degree
are jehovah's witnesses on their way to practicing amish style rumspringa?
basically pushing young people out into the world and seeing who comes back with their faith intact.
after so many generations of discouraging education, it seems like an easy way to ensure that there are some educated born-ins.

so even though i don't drive much because public transit is so good where i live (and parking is a living nightmare), i always had a paper taped onto my glove box that said "no blood transfusions - jehovahs witness.
see legal documentation in wallet.
going through this "wake up" process as been a very crazy, emotional experience.
Hi stephanie ,I really admire that you are taking the time to pay attention to all those little steps we all go through in going from all the way "in" to all the way "out" of this religion. There sure are a lot of them arent there?
So many good points have already been presented here by other posters but I wanted to share something with you that shocked me personally.
Right after I began fading, I had a chance to talk with an elder I knew to be very discreet and very up on all things Org.
He was the one who told me that he had been shocked when the Society began backing off ever so slightly on their blood policy. The way it stands now, if a baptized person takes blood, the elders dont have to be automatically harsh with them judicially. In some cases, it can just be handled very quietly.
While it is true that this is no rip roaring change in doctrine, it IS a sign that the Org is in the beginning stages of waffling on their blood policy.
So what that tells me is - I am NOT going to risk my life and perhaps lose it only to find out later that they changed the policy in a "new light" moment.
There have been too many times they reverse themselves to entrust something as serious as a life and death decision to them.
I am glad I had that conversation. Not having access to an elders manual (being a lowly woman and all) I wouldnt have known if I hadnt accidentally come across the fact in a conversation.
so last night we had some friends around for dinner, (not jw) & it was a really wonderful evening.
we talked about a variety of subjects, just had a laugh & drunk wine & beer.
this morning my husband & i were talking about how nice it was, how free we felt with our opinions.
This is an interesting thread, it seems from all the comments, that gossip is the normal state of being for a JW.
I think perhaps this is because of the way we were conditioned by the religion itself.
When you tell someone that they are in an elite group and the rest of the world is in darkness, non elite and grubby sinners, you encourage judging.
Once you have fed and raised that trait in people, how can you tell where it will/wont pop up?
So as a result, Gods "people" (as they fancy themselves being) are the most judgmental people on earth. All gossip is judgmental in nature. Its the foundation.
Stands to reason they would use it on each other too.
hi, i believe that a lady is put on earth to satisfy the needs of her partner and respect his views in all matters.. i realize some here may consider that old fashioned and not based on sexual equality.. yet a lady and man are not created equal because the lady gives birth and the man must sire many children.
if you are a lady under 30 and keen to meet me, willing to cook and breed, then please message me here.
please do not contact me if you disagree with my views, we can agree to differ.
Well this thread has been loads of fun to read!

Well with the superb eloquence with which you have baited your trap,...
Im sure you'll catch "something",
only a few days ago i was walking around the house in a mindless wander thinking if i needed to seek professional help.
then i got the courage to seek the comfort of complete strangers on the internet and found a world of support here on this website.
thank you simon and whoever else has made this website possible.
Elderess I am so happy that life is going this way. It is due to your honesty and courage.
I think you are at the forefront of a great movement away from the Org.
It is my belief that we are all going to be in a position to help droves of people as they move away from the pain of trying to be a JW.
I think that as clear a thinker as you and your husband are, that your children will follow you common sense approach.
Cheers! Enjoy Vegas!
just now finding this web site and have enjoyed reading the comments.
i've never written down my story and it could be a jerry springer episode but here goes.
i was raised as a jehovah's witness from as early as i can remember.
Hi and welcome to the forum Chip.
Im glad you took the time to tell your story. Here is hoping it will help anyone reading here who is struggling to see the value of being true to oneself, as you were.
Your story has a happy ending!
can someone tell me the scriptural basis (according to jw's) for shunning disassociated ones.
only asking because i don't remember (probably wasn't that interested) i'm sure the shunning in the scriptures was just applied to disfellowshipped.
i've only been out 3 years but i seem to have forgotten any scriptures or reasoning!
In my experience, if you use the word "shunning" a JW wont listen to any word after that one.
It takes longer to type but using a phrase such as "not talking to "or
not speaking to" will at least get JWs to read the rest of the sentence.
heres one on my arm.....i pull up my sleeve.....a chick will read it.....i pull down my sleeve.......and the chick is like why did you cover it up??????
duh thats all ya get......just 1 😂😂😂😂😂😂.
I love looking at the ones you all have but I have none to share...too big of a chicken!
Good to see you posting Mad Puppy....hope that means youre feeling better.
years ago when i was "in" i loved the book study.
it was my favorite meeting by far.
mainly because it was a small group.
The book study was as close as the religion ever got to anything warm and sociable in a religion sanctioned way.
So they got rid of it.
Of course they did!
