The only people there who were not regulars were family members goaded , guilted or cajoled in to coming for the evening.
I saw 2 "Bible studies" both elderly people sitting with a pioneer sister,
interesting to see if there's a noticeable trend in memorial attendance.
also did they talk more then usual about ones not to partake?

i guess we can agree to differ, but i personally found the new memorial songs (147, 149) to be very good, at least from a musical perspective.
.
rub a dub .
Good music played over and over homogenizes itself.
The songs sounded like background for a movie.
Not one single complaint about their technical
quality.
Unfortunately for them, that isnt what makes a person "feel" the music.
It is being able to follow the song and sing it enjoyably. It is singing the same song for years and all the nostalgia that brings with it.
Since this is the JWs only holiday and the Memorial songs were like their own "Silent Night" they really should have left it alone.
Im glad they changed it however. One more reason to NOT find Memorial nostalgic.
the wife and i went to the memorial strictly out of respect for my mother-in-law last night.
luckily our 20 month-old grand-baby was restless and making noise, so i quickly volunteered to take him in the back.
so i didn't have to listen to the presentation.
Maybe they will do a broadcast on tomatoes.
Dont laugh! Did you ever think they would do one on bread?
You know, just keeping the trend going...
i stopped attending meetings all together in january 2015. before that my attendance was irregular at best.
my husband followed suit a few months ago after months of research, agony, and indecision on his part.
from the very beginning i laid low and did not share with anyone what i found out about the witnesses because i did not want to be df'd.
Ata,
We have all heard the phrase Its a jungle out there".
Well it is definitely a jungle inside the walls of a Kingdom Hall. Predatory types abound, waiting for a misstep real or imagined in which they can exercise their power.
Nature provide some amazing solutions to even the playing field though. Some hide in plain site with disguises. Others have amazing techniques they use.
The go one way and double back is a great one. Ever seen a rabbit? They do that. Squirrels, monkeys and others.
I love what you did. You were honest with your mother, Good, You doubled back and used a different technique when people preying on your spiritual well being came calling. You are so smart! I was so impressed reading your original post.
Im sorry you and your husband have the emotional issues to deal with in the first place.
If it helps you any to know this- we all do in the beginning (I stlll am in that phase myself) so you are among friends in common.
Congratulations on the baby, that is so wonderful, keep us updated!
i'm completely new at this however just in my joining this forum and of course interacting with others i can't help but notice what appears to be a significant exodus from the organization.. for those of you that have long been in this game have you seen this before?
i'm really curious and we should refrain from the sensational, but is what we're seeing different than in years past?.
it sure seems like so so many are waking and leaving.
Another factor that adds to the cumulative effect is the generalized apathy towards religion in a lot of countries.
We are seeing that inside the Org too among the younger ones. They arent even "in" in the same way that young people were "in" years ago.
Maybe someone here can explain what I mean by that better than I can?
between two congregations that i know of four elders have stepped down in the last two months!
there is something really going on in this mandmade organization!
it's busting at the seams!.
In our local area we had one elder deleted - he was a troublemaker and got caught.
Three left in other ways. 2 moved and didnt seek reappointment and one just stopped serving - no explanation.
So that would be 4 gone since this thread started two years ago just in my area.
so my handle has a typo, it is supposed to be never allowed to be myself but i'm okay with that because it is kind of symbolic of my situation.
as a born-in i have always had expectations forced on me, this is what you are to think, feel and do as a jehovah's witness.
my earliest memories involve being upset that i would die at armageddon because i was bad.
Hi and welcome.
I like your name also!
among puzzlements of sitting down with jw reps with "what the bible really teaches", was the assertion that babylon was destroyed - forever - just like it says in these here chapters and verses.
then the nwt claims that peter i & ii were written from babylon.
but beside that, ancient greek, hebrew and roman writings are full of reference to babylon as an important center.
This is so interesting kepler.
So that picture they used to show of an abandoned looking "whistle stop" - was it in the Babylon book?
Was that another spot altogether?
someone asked for a second source on this, so i'm putting this out there to those who may have visited the new wt hq lately and know it to be true.
i had read from others on the ex-jw subreddit that had taken a tour recently at wt hq, that they had been shown photos of a mountain in china, and told that this is where all of the granite is being mined from and shipped over to new york to use at the site of the new wt hq.
apparently, it was cheaper for them to do this and have the local brothers in china mine it, then having to by tons upon tons of granite here in the usa, even wholesale.
Wasnt there a thread here a while ago about a brother in California who made a granite piece of some sort to be used on the loading bay at the new facility and when he tried to ship it - the Org rejected it?
Dont know the proper terminology for what the piece he made is called but I remember some of the comments suggesting that was ridiculous in a loading/unloading dock because they are usually all concrete.
to all congregations.
re: new songs for memorial.
dear brothers:.

Yes, why new songs on a special holiday? Wouldn't you want some traditional songs that everyone knows how to sing already? To me this is way to make families sing these songs at home. Practicing the song is further brainwashing for parents and children. Many will do it because they won't want the congregation to sound terrible singing a song they have never even heard
