Well my wife is off to a one day convention and will doubtless return home cranky and tired.
Or maybe there will be the JW version of "nu lite" and she will be tired and cranky instead!

the february 2017 wt had stated that the gb is "neither inspired nor infallible" and that it can make errors in doctrine.. the language of the online wt issue now says, “the governing body is neither inspired nor perfect.
therefore, it can make mistakes when explaining the bible or directing the organization.”.
why the change?
i hope you are all having a nice day with family and friends.. :).
being that time of the year when you can buy turkeys so cheap (most jw's i know but at least a couple) or in some cases food stores give one away with a purchase exceeding some dollar amount, i was just interested in any interesting recipes.. we usually do the brine thing (3/4 cup salt to 1 gallon of water, a few packets of chicken bouillon, some random additional spices, dry or fresh as desired).
cover the turkey completely and then let it soak overnight ( we usually do about an hour a pound).
not a real precise recipe but it does, in our opinion, make for a much more juicy bird without the typical dryness that often happens.. depending on the size of your refrigerator, it may take some gymnastics to get a big pot with a turkey in it.
I love the brine method. In my opinion it produces the oven turkey.
I have had to be so busy with work I didnt do the brine this year though,
I bought a young fresh 12 pounder and am using a method suggested to me by a work companion. Basically you slather the bird with a good mayonnaise and roast. I did stuff the insides with celery, apple and onion, So we shall see!
thanksgiving is really just a nice, traditional, family-oriented day set aside on a national level.
no babylon the great.
give me a break with the holier than thou, "we don't celebrate thanksgiving.
Now that I think for myself instead of parroting the party line...
If a special day of remembrance is wrong, then why go on and on about Memorial?
We could just appreciate the pertinent details every day.
Dont mind me, Im just another person going blind from eye strain, trying to find anything consistent about this religion!
a hospital in qld.
australia sought orders to allow a blood transfusion on a minor if necessary.
this occurred on the 12th june 2015.the child was 7 years old and required a liver transplant within the next two or three years otherwise death was seen as inevitable.
As usual when the Org is trying to figure out a new position on where to stand, they are saying both things.
For private in sessions like assemblies they say the above.
Behind closed doors, branch officials met with authorities and came up with a plea deal so to speak on at least the children/blood/religion angle.
This of course they do NOT mention at assemblies - you have to read it in the papers.
I know personally of one case (U.S.) where this was quietly set up for the parents by the liaison committee.
The loophole document is called a "Letter of Understanding"
i was never a jw , so have millions of questions .
please, how does an elder become an elder and how much trust does or should a jw put in an elder .?
simon.
Drwho
Very interesting , thanks all ..
How is en elder qualified to give advice , to maybe someone who is fading, not attending meetings ?
He may not be. It is luck of the draw. Elders are poorly trained for their job and there is little standardization of care, as well as little consequence from above no matter what they say or do to the lowly ones in their care.
It is a poorly managed system that escapes normal societal controls such as training and licensure etc because it is a "religion".
we are all familiar with the classic use by the society of proverbs 4:18 about "light getting brighter".
they say it applies to revealed truth, and doctrinal changes etc.. have you ever just read that chapter (and even the surrounding chapters) in full??.
it has nothing to do with doctrinal changes or teachings.. it has to do with acquiring wisdom and life skills in order to live a successful life.
at mine the conductor was somewhat awkward and minimal and there were nervous chuckles from the audience.
two people, including an elder, gave reasonable comments that it's okay as long as it's not extreme styles, etc.
but then another one of the elders commented that nothing has changed and they still aren't proper locally.
with thanksgiving around the corner, i thought it would be interesting to hear how you, your family or other jw's you knew handled/celebrated thanksgiving.
it seems to me that most jw's view it as harmless and unofficially celebrate it the day before or the day after the actual holiday.
growing up, my mother would host a dinner the day after thanksgiving and used the excuse " well the traditional food for the dinner is discounted at this time, might as well have a dinner".
nonjwspouse.
I dearly love my MIL. I just wish she wasn't so brainwashed. She has her own way of working around things, but it is a crap shoot as to what she will follow and what she will not.
Your mother in law sounds like a familiar species to me!
This is true of so many JWs I think. It is how they survive the religion and still have some semblance of a real life.
