Not really questioning the theory, I love the analogy of cats not needing to be herded because they are all in a big gilded cage now - seems plausible.
That said, what about old faithful people with no internet access?
many of us have watched the gb #4 update.
most of us jumped for joy when they basically said that there will be no meeting in person for a long time to come.. one aspect we overlooked was how hard they hit home the "love of neighbor".
how this "love" is what makes a true christian and as a result our love for our neighbors will motivate us to stay at home.. well now they released a letter that is instructing all kh's to view this video during their local needs part.

yes, he a republican.
but come on.. am i expected to come in, have a couple of shots, a few beers and leave by noon?
what time should i arrive, 9:30am?
Those are all good points LV101.
The fact that it is July.
The fact that we are all 4 months in on this
The fact that it has become so politicized,
have all contributed to information burnout.
If you look at the numbers of people on information platforms watching coverage (speeches) on the virus the numbers have crashed. No one cares anymore.
For better or worse the truth is people are tired of it all.
Where I live there are almost zero masks in evidence despite a mask ordinance being in place.
that was this weeks video.
but the elders cant say: liberry, pitcher, aks, pronounsiation, mono-tone-us, unconscience.
I think some folks need to work on their
COHERENCE THROUGH CONNECTIVES
Remember all of those charming points on our counsel slips - that one was my favorite!
The ministry school guide book had a list of connectives...I remember one of them was "withertofore" ..
Sounds like we were living in a Harry Potter movie.
lately that’s all i’ve been hearing about!
i’m sick and tired of listening to white people begging for forgiveness simply because they are white.
in a nearby town, a six year old girl asked her mom, “ why don’t we have a black lives matter march here?
At a time when everyone is feeling pretty frazzled for a lot of reasons, I appreciate your meditative post KiddingMe.
I always respect it when people strive to post their thoughts with some balance. I know that has been harder for me lately because certain aspects of all of this (the pandemic and the riots etc) make me highly irritated and when I am highly irritated I get more black and white in my thinking (no pun here) and I fail to consider the shades of gray that are a part of every reality. It's as though in my mind I think if I get blunter in my approach, my views will be clearer.
Even as I type that I am laughing at myself for falling for my own nonsense because as we all know, it is human nature to agree with those who agree with us. Really changing a persons mind, however, requires facts (or it should) that are shared in a way where the facts all build on one another to present a clear picture.
I am gathering from your post that you are trying to do that. So that is specifically what I appreciated about your post.
On another note, one thing I am thinking in terms of keeping with the theme of this thread on "White Privilege" is the use of the word 'white" in combination with the word "privilege".
Privilege is very similar to power, No matter who has the power at any point - corruption follows eventually. That is why we have all heard the familiar saying "power corrupts".
I wonder if putting the word "white" in front of it is a bad idea if real dialogue and change are the goals.
If just the word "privilege" was under scrutiny then a lot of people who do not have privilege would be all ears. A great many of these people would be white.
But by prefacing privilege with "white" ears slam shut. People feel attacked.
Sometimes I wonder if black people think that achieving the majority of power in the hands of black people would better the lives of all black people.
Because it won't. Just like "white privilege" hasn't helped the majority of white people.
I'm not sure where I am going with this idea except that these are my thoughts this morning as I drink coffee and ready myself to head out the door where I hope I can stay tactful and not be offensive to anyone.
im new to this forum, i dont know where else to post my story, sorry if im wrong for posting this on this subject.
as i begin to wake up from being in the org i thought id introduce myself to this forum with how i was raised in the org..., ive been beginning to look at everyones stories from being raised as one and how they left, and i find comfort in knowing im not alone, so maybe another young person like me will find the same comfort reading my story.
as you can tell by my username, i am posting this on an anonymous account because of fear of what the elders would do to me and my parents if they found out who i was.
Welcome Anon!
I can tell from your words that you are strong. A strong personality is a good thing to have. I was having the same feelings as you at your age but I was far too meek and afraid of displeasing my family.
Many wasted years later I got myself free. These are the best years of my life. The pure clean feeling of using my brain to think my own thoughts is the best feeling in the world.
Many people who are young struggle to be free to be who they are. For some it is their sexuality, for others, it is the country they live in and for many, it is their family religion of origin. Believe it or not, there are many religions that treat their young people badly - Jehovah's Witnesses being one.
Someone above mentioned exercise and fresh air, that is like medicine for your heart - do what you can to move your body and your mind will follow.
I'm so glad you are here. In one way or another, we all relate to what you are going through and want to help you. We are all success stories growing at various stages because we have taken that first step - a quiet resolve to cherish ourselves and create a better future.
You can be yourself here and we will listen and respect you.
To me, the "Org" has gotten less interesting due to NO new content whatsoever.
They are not doing anything good. They are not doing anything bad.....they are just blah.
after further review and thought, i really don't see how removing a monument or statue that may be truly offensive to a large group of people is in some way rewriting history.. i think of germany or other parts of europe.
you don't see swastikas on buildings or statues of hitler or mussolini or other upper level generals in public.
would it be good for a person (think jewish) to drive around a city and see hitler in a public park, even though it is "historical?
It's interesting as PeteZ pointed out, the connection between the time that has passed since the perception of wrongdoing and the reinstitution of the statues for historical reasons.
The pyramids were built on the backs of slaves. Shall they be razed to the ground?
I read an interesting article about the statues controversy a while back and I cannot find the article now. In it, the writer made two points.
One was the number of tourism dollars that are negatively impacted (the author used the city of New Orleans as an example) and the volume of people who like to stroll browse and read what is on the statues - which are works of art regardless of if you like who it is depicting. The article pointed out that in countries where art and statues were removed for sensitivity reasons - tourism dropped - the cities just weren't viewed as being steeped in culture and visually as interesting. In most cases, the statues were restored.
Two was an in-depth look at what Scandanavian countries faced when the split over Viking history was a hot issue. "Viking Day" or not? Museums or not, statues or not? The end decision was to keep the Viking heritage simply as history. NOT as a venerated part of history but merely as history.
And isnt that the point? The BLM movement should be very quick to want to teach people to do better in the future. Doing better means knowing better. The way society collectively learns to do better is called history. To sanitize the history associated with the Civil War is a two-edged sword. Yes, you remove painful reminders, but you also remove the reference points that made it living and real to future generations to learn from.
White children will not have any concept of what the big deal is. Black children will hear "words" but they won't have any frame of reference to aid them to internalize the sacrifice that was involved. For all of these children of the future- its just words at that point.
Once people are acting on principle again and not just acting out using raw emotion as fuel, once they are using their heads......
I guess that is when Christopher Columbus statue in Boston can have its head put back on again.
as the altleftist idiots burn books, ban speech and now ban movies that does not conform to their twisted thinking never forget, those that start by burning books end up burning bodies.

Point well taken Quetzal.
You are right. Perhaps the best we can do is contain our emotions to our own posts and not label others.
As for me, I really need to apply my inner "Switzerland" these days. Everywhere I look, the amount of overreacting and the pressing ahead without thought or aim of using this occasion to really accomplish anything is stupefying.
There is an opportunity here but its being stampeded over by competing agendas.
Funerals are symbols too - of closure and healing, usually. My hope was after the final Floyd funeral we would see a beginning of a collective sitting down at the table and the beginning of constructive talk.
Not so far. More statues pulled down, more acting out instead of thinking in.
So whats next?
In the U.S. the 4th of July is approaching which is a holiday celebrated with red, white and blue food, drinking and fire crackers!
(this is said tongue in cheek folks!)
WIll that wave of patriotism replace the current wave of disorganized anarchy?

You're running a bit behind on current events arent you Hisclarkness?
The over-dramatization has already occurred and we have all been watching it for the last two weeks.
Let's be plain spoken shall we?
Why do you suppose they plucked that one movie out of their line up to remove?
HBO? The same one that ran Game of Thrones?
Lots of racist overtones and articles written aboutthat show (that they wouldnt have dreamed of removing)
here's one:
This much should have been obvious from way back when the very first episode aired in 2011. It was clear then that showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss envisioned their world as a white one........................
GoT’s co-creators, Benioff and Weiss, announced that their next project would be Confederate, an alternative history drama, in which the south won the American civil war and slavery never ended. The announcement was met with near-instantaneous social-media anger from activists including #OscarsSoWhite creator April Reign, Ta-Nehisi Coates and Roxane Gay, who described it as “slavery fan fiction”. The project has since been delayed indefinitely.
The backlash might not have been so severe, however, if Game of Thrones wasn’t already perceived to have a problem with diversity.

The article sways back and forth trying to make points on both sides and ends up making no points really but it does give those with eyes some insight into how this all plays out ultimately.
The knee jerk "Symbolism" of removing Gone With the Wind (who most people in their 20s and under would only watch for school credit anyhow) was just that....symbolism.
The mightly HBO has but one ruler - here's how you spell its name - $$.
They can pick GWTW (which isn't making them any money anyhow) and yank it and promise to write a contextual forward.
Sensitive much!
And yet clever to pay lip service while doing absolutely nothing of any meaning.
Along with us not "over dramatizing" (still scratching my head over the faint whiff of the condescension in that statement)
How about we allow each person on this thread to speak clearly and address the points as they see them without any of us assigning emotion to them.
"Lets" try that, shall we?
