Ya'll dont believe in God?

i have to ask this although i have a feeling i dont really want to read the responses but anyway.

i talked to several people here today who dont believe there is a god at all.

this is disturbing!

LOL @ Ya'll! In North Carolins backwoods they usually say Yuns, I picked up that habit, but mostly anywhere else in the south it is Ya'll. I am going to post a few of my thoughts on this subject, but here is a link to a thread I started back in July.

It mostly deals with my feelings on the subject of my non believe in God. I was so suprised at the replies and emails I received concerning this. I was like you when I first realized that there were so many who did not believe in god, I was shocked. I left the Jw's at 18 and remained a christian for 8 years, I attended several different churches and felt I had a very close relationship with god. I prayed "incessantly" and credited him with all there is on this earth. I knew in my heart that the bible was the word of god and I followed it to the best of my ability. I had everything wrapped up in a neat little package for me, I had a reason and purpose for being here and knew where I was going, life was good Then I read a thread here that made me step out of my box and really take a look at my beliefs. That is when I had to really examine my beliefs and why I had them. I also had to admit to not looking honestly at the god of the bible. I took the good and left the bad, fooling myself that it was all good. Then I started using reasoning, and then the curtain started to lift. I did not have all the answers I was living on faith, yet the faith I had was not even consistent with the bible. It is amazing how we can fool our minds when we really want something to happen, or to be a certain way. I then went on and read as many books and websites that I could to educate myself. All my life I had only read one viewpoint on the subject, so I was not aware of the other side. I did not have to do this, I could have just said that there are others with other beliefs and it will not affect me. Yet if I did that I would not be honest with myself. You can do this Flower, you can accept that there are others out there that don't believe in a god(s) and live merrily with your beliefs, whatever makes you happy.

You said you did not want any links to past discussions, and didn't want to be told what books to read. Yet this is not really a good way to handle your misunderstanding. We have had this discussion so many times here and there are many websites and books that could help you to see the other side. To rehash it all again here would be monontonous. As you can see already the responses on this thread are very long, it is a complicated subject, that can't be wrapped up nicely for you. I really enjoyed Abaddon's comments to you he is a very talented writer, I appreciate that he is so thorough as well.

When you have a look at anothers viewpoint, then you will have a greater knowledge. The spoon feedings you recieved as a JW were not meant to make you think after reading the bible, they basically told you what the bible meant to say on a subject. Now is the time for you, to be honest with yourself. If you are willing to look at the other side, there are many resources. If you are happy with your beliefs then the other side will not sway you. Gosh all this talk of the other side I fel like we are in Star Wars

NEW LIGHT! Earthquakes-3-22-02 Awake!

well we now have another ray of new light that has flashed forth.

it is a new teaching regarding earthquakes.

for close to eighty-five years now the core believe of jehovahs witnesses has been the last days teaching that earthquakes have increased in intensity and frequency since 1914. no longer, now it seems it has gone the way of the generation that would not die who were alive in 1914. now we have the great new discovery that there were not more or stronger earthquakes since 1914, almost 40 years after experts and many good men were disfellowshipped for saying otherwise.

LOL "And there's a scripture which says that in the last days, there would be people like me saying words like this. Go figure." I had another JW blow out with my mom the other day, I will spare everyone the details. But one of the things she said was, "Well the big A may not come for another 20 years." I acted suprised by this, and said No Way! The ones who saw 1914 will be dead by then. I was always taught, and preached to others that the generation who saw 1914 would not die until Armeggeddon was here. She tried to downplay it and said that even Jesus said he did not know the day or the hour and nobody should assume they know. Of course she refused to acknowledge that she was only proving my point as I told her that the org is just another false prophet by claiming and teaching the 1914 doctrine.

Were we all really into it so bad that we gave up common sense and blindly followed? I was accused of being unreasonable, yet I was the person using reason in the conversation. Why can't they see that they are so wrong in their teaching? How many active Jw's in the future will not even be aware of the generation change doctrine in 1995? There are many things I was not aware of until after I left.

BTW I had a few Jw's come to my door the other day, he read this last days doomstext, wanting me to agree that the end was here. I refused to give in to him and said that the things listed on the list have been here for ever, and as far as the attitudes of men, those are certain ones characteristics, and have not changed. He did't even want to discuss it further, he just wanted to get his brochure placed. Hmm I wonder if he will make a RV and bring this article

hi everyone, i just looked at my profile the other day and realized that i'd started posting over a year ago.

in some ways it all seems so short this past year, like a blur in my life.

yet i feel that i've gotten to know so many of you so well, i can't believe it's only been a year.. one thing that's really strange for me is the fact the no one i talk to or know has known me for more then 2 years!!!

Something you said caught my eye. I forgot when I first left the org how hard it was to start all over. Even when filling out a job application etc, I had no personal reference outside of my family. Too strange to be in this big bad world all alone. I love this site and all of those who have a place to come and share and grieve and laugh together!

Flame Ups? Tired? Scared To Voice...............

i am wondering how many here are often reluctant to post their true opinions on certain subjects to evade being flamed, made to feel lesser than human, or being ganged up on?

i ask this as i have read threads and had things i would have liked to contribute, but feel i have already had so much stress that i cannot take the type of personal attacks that occur here.. before anyone jumps in and attacks that statement, i have had a recent physical illness that has stressed me beyond normal limits.. we have all seen it happen.

then along comes a mr nice guy who sticks up for the attackers.. ana...,of the "just cannot be bothered class".. .

I think you already know my answer on this one. I have no problem speaking my mind on a subject, though I have been careful of giving to much info due to the many who are fond of attacking. Take Prisca for example, she even used my hormonal upset during pregnancy as some kind of childish insult. Jeez I never thought giving out that kind of info would be cause for an attack. And Uncle Jimbo making a cutting remark about my daughter who is in poor health. Where do these people get off attempting to inflict pain for situations you have no control over? Personally I am not bothered by their ignorance. There must be something lacking in their lives for them to feel the need to try to get a reaction from others. I really feel sorry for them, and others who use these underhanded tactics.

I also feel the need, and do jump in and save certain ones who are being unfairly attacked. I have a real problem with those who are blinded by their own ignorance that they do not realize what their comments may be doing. I also feel the need to play peacemakeer at times, especially when I see those I respect combatting, it is really unsettling. I almost killed Dana and Expat in that thread when I realized they were joking! I was really upset about them fighting with each other.

I can see how many would shy away from posting on certain subjects, there are alot of controversial subjects discussed here. The insults will continue, there is no stopping that, even if Simon wants to tighten up on them they will continue. Because he can't catch them all, and trying to do so will ruin, imo, the way the board is now. I personally felt slighted when he interuppted a convo/flame war whatever it is called I was involved in, yet there are so many all over.

I do want to point out that I have been very good about keeping my mouth shut when Prisca speaks. Her ignorance is so obvious it is sickening. As I look through the threads I see her spouting snide, generalizations, on some of the most controversial threads. If she has the gahoonas to post those remarks, you would think she would be able to back them up and add a name or be more direct in what she is talking about. But I guess she feels that if she is insinuating an insult, she gets away with it? I don't know how does that work? Then when the person addresses her, she acts innocent of all charges. Yet if she never made generalized statements that instigate a fight, the fight would not even begin...am I right? I have kept my mouth shut about that, but to me she is doing exactly what she accuses others of. So sick of it[:]

Brother now I am stumbled!

have you ever been so dam hurt from the things done to you in the so called gods organization that you wanted to just set down cry your guts out?.

i will list a few reasons but basically i feel that my reality has been denied to me as a young man growing up as a jw.. i was not taught to love god, but have excrement scared out of me if i did not do what they said, i too had an over bearing father who seemed to fit right in with jw's mind set.

i can still hear him now god rest his soul, he would say every morning if he happen to hear garner ted armstrong, honey listen they are robbing from the lords table.

I had a very good friend of mine who's son had MS. She had pioneered her entire adult, married life it seemed.lol Well her son sitting in the carseat all day with no activity was very bad for his already weak muscles. I would take some afternoons and sit with him working his muscles etc so she could go in service, but noone else really lifted a finger to help her. Often times she had noone to work with so we decided to start doing other forms of the ministry work.

It was just her and I for awhile, then a few more came along and so on, unitl it became the type of field service everyone wanted to do. There was probably 10 sisters who all of the sudden was interested in "helping her achieve her hours" Of course as you know the elders don't like things like this, so the sister was counseled against doing this kind of work. I cried as she took her son out day in and day out locking him in the carseat, such a shame. If it had been me, I would have told them to kiss my butt haha, but she was the pioneer not me, I had no say in it. I am sure there are many more I can think of though.

i just received a tape of a talk given by ciro aulicino from october of last year, right after the sept. 11th tragedy.

this guy makes every effort to sound like the 70s circuit overseer floyd kite (armageddon is right at the door!

), only it is worse because kite was embarrassed 25 years ago over his nonsense and has had to live it down.

BTW he says at one point even correcting himself. "When Jesus started to reign.... and Satan was cast down from heaven in 1914,(corrective backpeddling) between 1914-1918."

HUH? Are they now teaching it was between these dates? Or have they always?

i firmly believe that peppermint patty in the "peanuts" cartoons was gay.

she was pretty much a tomboy and did you ever notice that patty's friend marcy always called her "sir" even though patty was a girl?

(((refiners)))) I did the same thing a few times. I was on constant alert and ended up with my foot in my mouth a time or two. I have learned that turning off the PC and picking up a book, does wonders.lol It took me forever to figure that out though. But as I said it is much easier on your heart, I hate feeling on edge.

Outlaw Well, I had a good laugh a few nights ago with the "Dear William" trollette. I agree some are easy to spot. The thing is they come in stir us up by making a 3 liner turn into a 5 page thread. Seems like such a waste anymore to even respond to them. I always try to give the benefit though, sometimes I get burned.
