My story is similar but I was the one to join and my non JW family disowned me! Even years after leaving the org they dont want to know me. Theres a saying: "You can choose your friends but you cant choose your family".
Mike.
not that my mom would ever visit this site - but i have to just vent.
last night my mom promised she would meet me at home to help me move some furniture.
she made it seem like it was a tremendous deal and the only reason why she would be by would be because she had something else to do in the neighbourhood.

You reminded me of another experience at Maine Road. Me and the same mate were volunteered to sell a giant mountain of canned drinks. We were told to shout "nICE COLD DRINKS!" so that people got the impression they were really cold and refreshing. Well how could they be since theyd spent most of the afternoon in the back of a transit van in the height of Summer? When questioned we were told to say we had been shouting NICE cold and not ICE cold". A few times we were approached by WT "heavies" and asked who we were selling them for but to this day I dont know if it was official or not!

Hi City Fan,
So did you buy any "rancid beef/sweaty ham/mouldy cheese" and how long did it last? hehe
I never got involved socially with any of the "brothers" not that there was much officially going on anyway. I think I came across as a goody goody and wasnt invited awwww sad :)

i had an idea that i could build a uk map of everyones location which would show you instantly who is in your area from jwd.. (it might be an idea to do a seperate us one aswell but i'll wait and see if this one takes off first, or if anyone from the us wants to volunteer to do that one).
(and australia but you are all in the same backyard anyway - literally!!!).
anyway, all you have to do is post or email me your username and town and i will draw you on the map above which will change gradually to include everyone!.
Cheers Ballistic - I just emailed you too ;)

i went to work last night and stopped by the employee break room and you'll never guess what i found... a copy of the watchtower and awake!!!
of course i immediatly filed them in the trash can, but seeing them there has raised quite a concern for me.. you see the problem is that i work at a correctional facility, and all entrances are completely secured.
that means that one of the officers left the magazines one the table, and the bad part is that it appears as if someone had been reading one of them.
Well Im having the opposite! Ive been away for about nine or ten years now and in that time Ive only been "visited" perhaps three times! Id been involved for about the same length of time and when I left I expected a barrage of calls topersuade me back but nothing. Since I gave away my vast collection of literature I havent seen one single WBTS leaflet, magazine, brochure, book or anything! Whats happened to the FS campaigns that used to call every six weeks maximum? Not that Im complaining :)

i was laying in bed last night thinking how lucky i am that i havent had to undergo the mental torture of attending the district convention.
then i started reminiscing about the old days and i suddenly remembered those ridiculous tickets you had to buy to pay for food.
they were those brown cheap cardboard type efforts with i think 10 tickets per sheet.
One year me and my mate were collared to "volunteer" our services and to offload lots (yes I mean LOTS) of left over food at the end of a DC. There were boxes of frozen doughnuts, pounds and pounds of boiled ham, roast beef and god knows how many slices and chunks of cheese. Anyway, being a little miffed because we had to stay behind until it was all gone we decided to have our own "sale". We shouted to the passing crowds: "Sweaty ham! Rancid Beef! Mouldy cheese!" and you should have seen the people that gathered to buy! We took literally pennies for as much as the people could carry hehehe I felt sorry for one old lady and gave her a box of about 100 frozen doughnuts for about 1quid! Once it had all gone we went searchig for someone to give the money to. No joy - no-one wanted to know. Bear in mind our coach had already been waiting an hour for us so we just hopped on and went home. Oh and I think that was the last DC I ever went to.
Have fun :)
