ok imagine you go back in time.......you wake up in a kingdom hall.
before you know it you are handed a watchtower.
but on the seventh day they get up early, as soon as the dawn ascends, and march around the city seven times.
You wake up from this terrible nightmare and realize that you have finally found the "truth".

I remember as a kid, going out in service in Upstate NY, Saturday mornings. It would always get very cold and we always had tons of snow. We would go to Friendly's, in Utica, for a cup of hot chocolate with mini marshmallows and a hot apple danish. The only good thing about going out in service. MMMMMM! Then there was this small chain called Dandee Donuts. Best homemade glazed donuts.

my father called me last nite telling me that i was korah.
always nice to start off a conversation with.
then for an hour we tried convincing each other we were right.

So happy for you that you found the courage to speak up to your dad. My JW parent knows that I don't always agree with the Society and it's teachings. It's hard because I wish I could just open my parent's eyes force them to see the "truth" for what it really is. I just tell my parent little "tidbits" that I find out on this message board on how rotten the "truth" is. One of these days, I hope he will give up and stop going to meetings. The sad thing is he doesn't even realize the big guilt trip they are putting on him because the rest of the family isn't in the truth. I understand where you are coming from. Hang in there, you are not alone.

hi shane,.
just read your post of 30 august regarding beards.
O.K., so we know the Society is against beards.
But what about goutees? (sp?) I think it would be o.k. After all, they aren't full beards and they have a little more hair than mustaches.
When I went to last year's memorial there was this poor "brother" who was wearing one and everyone was giving him the cold shoulder because he had one. I felt so bad for him.

no!.
i recall that the wt stated that one's mind was open to demon possession when in a hypnotic trance.. this is quite curious, during the 50's my dad dabbled in hypnotism prior to becoming a jw, one of his old pals told me that he saw him hypnotise a woman who then allowed him to stick pins in her thumb without her feeling any pain at all.. i have seen a hypnotist transfix a friend of mine to the floor, he was unable to move without the hypnotists ok.. i also have another friend who uses a light trance to help people overcome their fears, it seems to work well on peple who have to give seminars or perform on stage.. anyone here ever been hypnotised?.
englishman.. bring on the dancing girls!
My former doctor tried to hypnotize when I was having problems with stress. I was so scared because of what the "truth" teaches (demons,
trances, occult etc.) I later changed my mind, and I listened to a cassette tape that taught me to relax my mind and body muscles in order to combat stress. This was very helpful, but I felt uncomfortable telling fellow witnesses about my hypnosis. I guess it is up to each individual.

i want a "normal" family.
i want to go to my mom's home on christmas.
i want to fight with my husband about whose house we are going to this year - his mom's or mine.
((((puppylove))))
Sorry to hear you're not in the Christmas spirit. When my family and I were in the truth, my siblings felt deprived (and yes, cheated) out of Christmas presents. So we started PRESENT DAY, (it was after Christmas, the last Sunday in February). We exchanged inexpensive gifts and went out to dinner that night. Even my JW parent got into the act, which surprised all of us. So maybe it might help if you started your own memories and new traditions. Christmas, and any time of the year for me, is all about love, caring and giving.

i was just wondering if anyone knows what year the jw's banned smoking and celebrating christmas.
plus, anyone here still know active jw's that still smoke secretly?
i know a couple that do.
This happened years ago but I remember when another sister and I wanted to visit this elderly sister, who had been sick. We climbed the stairs, rang her bell and I smelled cigarette smoke. Just as I turn to the other sister to say something. The elderly sister yells,
"I'll be out in a minute." Then all we could hear was the sound of an air freshener being sprayed for about five minutes before this elderly sister opened her door. We looked inside, and there was this thick, blue haze.
I always thought of her as the grandmother I never had, so I never "reported" this to the elders. She must have been in her late 80's. I always thought that this matter was something between her and Jehovah, and the elders didn't need to know this anyway.

when a jw tells you christmas is pagan, therefore you shouldnt celebrate it, you can refer them to this article.
it is discussing wallpaper and other home decorations and what sorts are acceptable.. *** g76 12/22 14 are they idolatrous decorations?
so the christian needs to be primarily concerned about what?
In Ray Franz's second book, In Search of Christian Freedom, is a 1926 photo of the Bethel family seated with Christmas presents in front of them. Genuine proof that the early Bethelites used to celebrate Christmas.

I was wondering what user name I should use when I was driving behind a minivan with the license plate that said MORE2C. I thought it was very oppropriate. There was more to the real "truth" to see. Plus, I thought it would look cool to mix a number and letters together.
There you have it,

have you worn a suit since you left the org of jehovahs witnesses?.
i havent.
what am i going to do with all my shirts ties and suits ?
I wear a dress once a year to the memorial, the only time I go to the KH (I have a parent that is still active). I still like dressing up to go out. I donated most of my dresses and old clothes to charity and that felt good. There are many less fortunate people who could probably use them. Plus, it was a great excuse to get new clothes.
