Ok, having two parents die of lung cancer, and an aunt die over cirrhosis of the liver... I am not trying to defend the WT, but all they really said is that these people have to take responsibility for their actions and that is true. Smoking is bad for you plain and simple. Excessive drinking will cause liver problems. Although, drinking or smoking hardly come on par with dropping bombs or starting wars...pretty sure neither of my parents did that. Also, I don't know of too many people responsible for famine...it sort of happens outside your control. So, if the issue is lumping this all together, than I am there with ya!!!!

I am so glad I have faded to the point I no longer need to go...my family does not expect me and I have no JW friends that expect me. I can relax at home, enjoy some time with my grandkids. I am not sure why people would go if they feel that badly about the assembly. To they own self be true and stay home.

I have never in my 50 years heard of religious resturants in the US. I guess they might exist but never in the major cities I lived in. There were always some resturants where the owners were very religious. For example, Chick-fil-a are owned by religous folks which is why they are closed on Sunday's. But, I never heard of anyone not willing to eat there. Similar for other places...as long as they didn't push their religion too much, who cared? I guess we don't have the "meat sacraficed to idol" type resturants anymore?

No right to pick on one person who puts himself out there. Do I see your picture, video, and voice out week after week? I doubt it. I just don't get the haters? There are many aspects to leaving this religion. I don't buy everything that is sold but I do gleen some good information and enjoy the content all the same. Will I be out standing on a street corner anytime soon with fellow apostate...no...but hey, it takes allot to do that. I really consider the attack on him so personal that I just don't get it? I am not Rick, I never met Rick, I am just a 40 year fader that still has an interst in what is going on with JWs...the good, the bad, the funny and maybe even the made up!!!!

Letter to the Writing Department from Barbara Anderson
by Dogpatch ini thought i knew you.
an open letter from barbara anderson to watch towers writing department.
in 1517, martin luther wrote in a letter to archbishop albert of mainz: you must graciously forgive that i, that scum of the earth, am so bold as to dare to address a letter to you.. yes, i know, you think of me as scum, just like mainz believed of luther, wondering how i dare write you a letter, someone jehovahs witnesses disfellowshipped back in 2002. i was accused of being an unrepentant sinner and condemned for causing divisions, then labeled apostate because i spoke out publicly on nbcs dateline tv program aboutthe child sexual abuse policies that protected pedophiles policies that you helped formulate.

Very nice letter Barbara. I enjoy the letter as I enjoyed your attendance to Rick's show on Saturday several weeks ago. It was very informatvie. This just goes to show that Rick serves an important purpose and does get some good information out there! I did not personally know much about Barbara but now it do THANKS to the Saturday show. Good work Rick bringing her on. I am not Rick, I never met Rick....I just support Rick's right to do what he does and enjoy the show for what they present and believe what I want but not necessarily all of it...my choice...your choice...it is called freedom from the bonds of the JW religion!

Rick Fearon should apologise for accusing faders of being cowards
by cedars ini hate doing this type of thread.
none of us are perfect, least of all myself, and i would rather focus any criticism on the watch tower society for damaging people's lives.
however, in the short period since i've been a member of this forum i've noticed one member in particular deteriorate in his behaviour into the type of individual who threatens to undermine the credibility of the entire website.

Listen folks if you are on this site YOU ARE AN APOSTATE... at least by JW standards. What, are you fooling yourself? I don't care if you think you are or are not, but you are by THEIR standards. If you want to stay anonymous so what? Rick's point is that it is a real shame that you must live your life that way and not be honest to who and what you believe. I am sorry, I am not a long time member on the board but if you kick of Rick, I see little reason to stay on a board that doens't allow freedom of speech? I spent 40 years in the Watchtower watching what I said or thought and now YOU ARE GOING TO DO THE SAME TO HIM? Sorry...personally, all of you just need to shut the f up and let people post, read, ignore what they want. We don't need Elder police on this board do we deciding what we read or what we post? If so, this forum is useless. I am not Rick. I never met Rick. I enjoy his show. I take anything HE says or YOU say with a grain of salt and decided what I believe or what is just entertainment. There is plenty of non sense on this board, so why not Rick? Geeze!!!!

Better to get it published in some major news papers and web sites. The more people that see it the harder for them to ignore. More effective than a letter directly to them.

Wonder if this is why an JW family member of my wife said she is going to review her friends list? I am not too concerned if I get kicked off or not but I thought it was strange the way they put it?

How many of us have Higher Learning, and still mop floors
by Quarterback insomeone who works at a college locally, pointed out to me that one of their scholar students was stocking shelves at a dollar store.. with this recession, are you finding that higher learning is wasting time?
.
i know that it's necessary to become a dr. or a lawyer, but, with the shortage of work, even teachers are working as secretarys.. what do you think?.

For a minimum wage job any degree is no help. But, if I am an employer and have a technical job or a job that requires some skills...and I have a kid with a HS degree and another with a college degree and all things being equal, I will hire the college degree. So, even if you are stock shelves, so what? That is a temp job until you can get a job in your field. I have seen so many young people give up or think they shouldn't have to pay their dues in to get good jobs. A degree is only 1/2 the equation. You need work experience. There are ways to get that in smaller jobs, volunteering, or unpaid internships. Don't give up if it is something you like! You can never get a high-paying job with a high school degree unless you learn some unique skill or start your own business. But, most don't.
