  What is significant about 9/11?

  many jws have become excited by the events of 9/11 in the u.s., thinking that this is a definite sign of the imminent end of the system.

  we have seen online jws talking about how these awful events were "prophecied in the bible" and how this is proof that armageddon is near.

  we have heard reports of local jws saying the same things, including many of our family members.

  im just wondering how many people actually ARE returning. in a WOL thread on the subject, the majority of posts lamented the lack of returnees since 9/11 ("don't they GET it??") and at the supplementary meeting the WT summary speaker actually chided those that had returned, questioning their motives and their ability to stick it out. i thought he might throw in an non-judgmental welcome too but he didnt. im sure this was atypical and partly due to the subject material but ill bet a lot of the folks that are going back will not stay long for whatever reason.

  until we get the new book next year, yes, thats the system. their use varies greatly from school overseer to another. some hand out G's like tissues. some like to stretch it out: W-I-I-I-I-G. its a rather humorous custom that a less skilled speaker is appointed as S.O. so he will benefit too. so the counsel given is often not the most insightful.

  when the book revelation....climax was published (1988) it seemed safe to assert that the coming destruction of false religion would derive from the drop in her waters of support i.e.

  membership.

  im afraid i dont really see the difference between 'membership' and 'people who support.' if you looked at the first mention of the waters on page 238 of Revelation, youd see this description:

  These symbolic waters are ?peoples and crowds and nations and tongues,? that is, all the thousands of millions of humans over whom she has dominated and from whom she has drawn material support. But these waters are also drying up, or withdrawing support.

  the wording is pretty similar to Isaiah here.

  frankly these ideas of subtle, clever adjustments give them far too much credit.

  Show me the numbers!

  it's been two weeks since the brooklyn boys got in all the statistics totals from the 2001 disservice year.

  yet there has been nary a peep from any who know.

  shouldn't there have been a few leaks by now?.

  the memorial figures fluctuate wildly because the date falls on different days of the week from year to year, sometimes convenient, sometimes conflicting with Friends season finale so u cant tell much from 2 consecutive memorial numbers. the one to watch will be the baptisms. this was been in a nasty spiral the last couple years.

  i also dont worry too much about number-fudging. there would simply have to be too many people involved for this to be credible. what constitutes a publisher is well-defined: anyone reporting time in the year. this could mean they are inactive since february and would be counted. you may think thats unfair but its consistent.

  i've seen the scan of paul hoeffel's fax over at kent's website.

  if i understand it correctly, you created the scanned jpg and sent that file to kent and others.. i'd like to suggest something to improve the credibility of this thing - namely, to create a higher quality jpg from the original document.

  i think thats not a bad suggestion. i noticed the gray boxes too and thats jpeg artifacts for sure, but considering the wild accusations of sneaking into the UN's website or posing as the WTBTS, im sure people *will* key in on those artifacts. a high quality compression factor can only improve matters.

  Tom Clancy inspired bin Laden?

  i killed quite a bit of time a couple of years ago reading tom clancy's 1996 novel executive orders.

  it is not a particularly good novel, and for having 1200+ pages, it has an anti-climactic ending, imo, and the protagonist (and author!

  ) seems to be somewhere to the right of mussolini.. but the similarities between the plot in this tom clancy novel and what has happened in the us since sept 11 are scary, especially if it is true that the same people who organized the wtc attack is also behind the envelopes with anthrax bacteria sent to media outlets.

  "UN" Searches at the Watchtower

  i am really appreciative of the work done by many here related to the un hot-topic, for those who contacted the un and those brave enough to approach the wts directly too.

  i have printed my copy of the letter and have saved an image for use this weekend.. heres another thought on the un thing.

  during the last couple of weeks i have checked the watchtower main web-site and the media site for references for the un.

  King North/King South

  i just read the post regarding sundays' special meetings.

  i have a question & some statistics....... it has been along times since i was a member of the jw's, so please, to refresh my memory - what was their understanding of this prophecy?

  was america king of south (if i remember rightly) & russia king of north?

  a few points.

  the notes from the talk you read were mistakenly attributed to the supplementary meeting last sunday. they were NOT from that meeting but are a set of notes from a talk by a brooklynite in greensboro that probably actually took place but for which there has been no independant confirmation.

  islam is NOT bigger than christendom. not by a long shot.

  the king of the north and south is a totally open prophecy. the WT is free to apply to anyone they like that just happens to be in conflict. the last identity of the North was the USSR but that identity has now been left open for anyone who steps up to take the role. back in the cold war, the understanding was that russia would dominate since the end of the prophecy indicates this saying, for example, that the north would plunder the riches of the US and britian, the king of the south. the most recent book on daniel says that this has incredibly ALREADY TAKEN PLACE. how, you may naturally wonder? why, by forcing the US to spend so much money on arms during the cold war, of course! take THAT, USA! kind of like a vicious headbutt to the fist.

  anyways, the point is that theyve given up on specific fulfillments of these prophecies and they are free to fit just about AYTHING to them so theres no saying what speculations will be given license to spread. the WT is unlikely ever to state anything dogmatically about this prophecy ever again.

  the muslim countries in which there are virtually no witnesses have long been believed to fall under a kind of unspoken 'community bloodguilt.' the same kind of community bloodguilt under which we are all, every one of us, responsible for killing jesus, according to the last study article on the 'cities of refuge.' you see, the governments oppose the work and the people are under the government and therefore responsible as a community. its their own fault for being born there. not that they should oppose the government either tho, because that would be wrong too. well, anyways the less we worry about those poor people the better, eh? again, you will not see anything stated about this matter dogmatically ever again. the matter will always be refered to as something about which we will just have to wait and see. trust in jehovah to act fairly. asking questions on the matter is unproductive speculation.

  as of 6:02 pm last night i received a facsimile from paul hoeffel at the un on the wts.. he gave me 3 of the 4 things i requested in two paragraphs.. i have sent a scanned version to steve bates and someone else.. i sent it to kent and randy.

  and kent and randy have posted the official united nations letter on their web sites.. here is the letter - put your cursor on the image and then right click on your mouse and hit "save image" to your computer.. .

  after you look at kent's web site and you people still think this it is a fake letter, phone paul hoeffel yourself at (212) 963-8070.. hawk

  trilobite: yes, i am still waiting particularly for the information WT sent to the DPI. this is the last available piece we dont have yet. (since we've been told the application itself will not be made public.)
