How to spot a Sociopath
by larc inwhy is it important to be able to spot a sociopath?
the basic reason is that they can do enormous damage to you.
they can ruin your life.. what is the overiding characteristic of a sociopath?

larc,
It is interesting that you brought up this topic. A very good friend of mine got involved with a girl that is truly a sociopath at their best! I actually did some research for him since he became involved in a terrible custody battle over the child they share together. He has been through a year of hell with this girl. She has lied and accused him of being an alcoholic, drug abuser and partier, in which he is none of the above, and has gone as far as convincing another man that he was the father of her son. She deceived this other man and his very wealthy family out of money and led them all to believe that she was staying with family while she was pregnant, all the while living with my friend in another state. After leaving him and moving back in with this other man, she continued to fabricate all kinds stories that eventually came out in court. My friend finally
insisted on an psychic evaluation, where the psychiatrist recommended that the child be taken out her care and given to the father. Because of ridiculous rulings previously by the judge, he compromised on shared custody. To this day, she still makes life hell for him! I wish he would have went for full custody, a child should never have to be raised by a sociopath mother. The irony of this story...her disfunctional family were once JWs.

We have an interesting debate going on regarding 607BCE Fall of Jerusalem?
http://www.beliefnet.org/boards/message_list.asp?pageID=5&discussionID=106132&messages_per_page=16
Our resident JW said, and I quote-
"I hope you see that our 607 date is NOT arbitrary, the FDSlave class and all JW do not have ulterior motives for choosing it, we believe it is really what the Bible teaches. Furthermore, if you will study it through the Insight books you will see they are VERY open about the fact that SOME arheology does not fit but that the BIBLE explains and clearly presents the correct picture and understanding of Jeremiah's prophecy. Which does give us a basis for 1914 as you have noted."

Maybe you should come visit the http://www.beliefnet.org/boards/discussion_list.asp?boardID=28082 Jehovah's Witness Challenge & Critique Discussion Board at a http://www.beliefnet.org, we have a regular JW that has been coming around for a while.
Beliefnet is an multi-faith forum and we get all kinds of individuals from various religious backgrounds that post there. You won't find the action that you have here, and they usually stick to doctrinal issues.

What helped you get over it?
by ashitaka inhi guys,.
what helped you guys get over your anger of being shunned, dealt with unfairly, ignored, etc?.
my wife and i found comfort in each other.
-
mpatrick
The one thing that helped me get past my anger was a book titled Change Your Conversations, Change Your Life"
I always thought talking about things would make things better. So, I talked to anyone who would listen and the more I talked, the more upset I would get. It was like it would bring everything back to the surface. The book talks about exactly that. If you talk about things that make you feel good, then you are going to feel good. If you continue to talk about the things that upset you, then you are going to continue to be just that...upset. The same would come into play in regards to our thoughts...think bad thoughts, feel bad.
Anyway, that is what worked for me. I am sure everyone handles things differently....just find something that works for you and stick with it. It if means getting out and making new friends, or going to school then just set your mind to do it.
Having this place to come to has been a good outlet also...just to know your not alone.

So Will This Be Your First Christmas?
by Englishman infunny how the prospect of christmas takes me back to my pre-dub days as a 7 year old.
christmas eve was spent making my present request list, duly guided by both my parents as to what to ask for.
once completed, the coal fire was stoked up and the precious list was allowed to be carried up the chimney where waiting elves promptly delivered my requests to santa.

I LOVE CHRISTMAS!
Best holiday of the year! I have celebrated for four years now, my first being my daughter's first.
I remember when my husband and I started dating I informed him that I use to be a JW and would probably go back someday. I told him that I wouldn't be celebrating any holidays and he said he was alright with that. Well, a year into our marriage and the birth of our first daughter, I decided to celebrate. This was before I was convinced that the Borg was a load of crap. We didn't put up a Christmas tree and I only used "winter" wrapping paper, no Santa Claus stuff. Then we went to my first Christmas Party at an x-JW's and she had everything decked out. I remember asking her if she felt guilty, and she replied NO, not even a little.
Well, the next year after being a bit more educated about just how big a "load of crap" the Borg truly was, We had our first real Christmas. We went out and sent hundreds of dollars just on decorations. My husband said it was like having two kids in the house.
Since then we look quite forward to the holidays and try to make it special for our now three children (I have been very busy making babies the past 5 years). Since I didn't have Christmas growing up, I love being able to start my own Christmas traditions with my own family. It is the best!

trick or treating
by teejay inof all the holidays, for me halloween has the least appeal.. i have a memory of going trick-or-treating once, at my "worldly" father's insistence (he roasted peanuts in the oven for the door-knockers... i remember), about the time my mom learned the truth.
i must've been about five years old.. despite the fact that i'm a hard-core agnostic and a fear of gods or demons are a non-issue, i still have trouble encouraging kids -- under the guise of costumes and fun -- of extorting treats from neighbors.
can i get a witness?

My daughter (4 years old) loves dressing up and going trick or treating. She talks about it year round. Last year she asked everyone if they had a cat, and if they did, could she see it. We must have been at every house for 5 minutes each. I loved seeing the excitement in her eyes and see you harm in it.
My husband and I have a Halloween Party tonight and I made some YUMMY Buckeyes (little bites of heaven). For anyone unfamiliar with them, they consist of loads of peanut butter, butter and powdered sugar rolled into little balls and dipped into chocolate with the tops showing...like Buckeyes, the worthless nut that Ohio is known for.
